4 is definitely when it started going into crazy action, it was still more realistic than 5 but it was definitely the tipping point. I also loved that you brought up how point break and the fast and the furious are pretty much the same movie if you swap out surfing for cars

Lol i just found ur channels today and binged. Didn't have to wait lol I'm really glad u analyzed these films. Netflix added the first five and I rewatched them for the first time since i was a kid and they had so much more depth than i remembered. The first especially blew me away. (Also just wanna say, Jhonny Tran was valid. Like, Dom crossed the line with his sister. Did Jhonny kill him? No. They both came to a mutual decision without violence. Even though it's shown that Jhonny has zero issue killing people. Then. Dom ventures into his turff with Brian. Accidental, yes. But again, Jhonny didn't kill him. Just sent a much more hardcore message. Then, the guy that Johnny waterboarded literally stole hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of engines to scalp before race wars. Honestly, again, Johnny showed quite a bit of restraint. Didn't kill the guy. And considering the racing/criminal word, swiping ur own clients engines for resale is insane scummy. Then, because Brian was distracted by Mia, he okayed a swat on Johnny who for all intents and purposes didn't really do anything that horrendous up to that point. I mean really. If Dom can throw truckers out of their rigs at high speeds to rip off dvd players, is jhonny really so bad for waterboarding his own mechanic that ripped him off? He gets disrespected in front of his family, gets bitched slapped by his dad, gets cheated out of a car he won fair and squar, and then Dom beat the absolute shit out of him. Yes, it was obviously a misunderstanding, but it could've been solved if Dom just kept his cool. So with all things considered, he was like, way more justified and valid than pretty much any other ff villain. Lol sorry, rant over) I do agree that ff was never about street racing specifically. U laid it out incredibly well. But for ff 4 specifically, one thing i noticed that really cemented how different the series would become, was the music. In the first three films, everything had an energetic edge. Everything was just fun to listen to, from the licensed music to the original strings osts. But... In ff4... It became generic. I kept thinking most of the bg music didn't really fit. It seemed so serious that it'd work better as a Law and Order ost. Even the licensed music didn't really stand out. Example, the scene where Dom leaves Letty when she's asleep genuinely felt so serious that to me, it undercut the scene and almost felt like a drama parody. Once i noticed, that feeling lingered for the entire movie. Like, remember how u pointed out in the first film how the music for the tuna fight had actul meaning? And then how the music was purposely absent for the first half of the final race? I don't think theres a single segment in ff4 that put that much effort in. Basically, from ff4 on, u could literally swap out the osts with any other ff and u wouldn't notice. But take out the "Watch yo back" when Brian gets pushed, and it'd instantly be missed. I don't really have much more to add to ur analysis because u hit the nail on the head lol i just wanted to throw out another angle for why ff4 might stand out as the start of the 'downfall' for a lot of fans. Honestly, to me, f5 is when the series ends. It had the best ending and wrapped everything it needed to up imo Anywho, absolutely love ur content man. Gonna keep binging lol

But usually I use music from the movies as background for the analysis vids but for this I used very little from ff4 because it wasn't that interesting. Yeah, that Din Viesel's detective superpower scene is cool AF. I think that the "it used to be about street racing" thing appears cuz from this movie onwards, street racing isnt important to the story.

I can understand the focus on countering the argument that the series used to be about street racing, as I agree they never really were. For me and my friend group the complaint has always been that it was more grounded in car culture with cars people could actually afford and you would see or know some people in your city who built similar cars, the more movies they made the more supercar sponsorships they had for product placement it felt. I will never be able to afford a lycan hypersport or a Ferrari and even if i could i would not buy one, it lost the S2ks, silvas, jettas, 240z in the background. All me and my friends ever wanted was some cool car builds and a story with some character development and quotables, I have said "ejecto seato" and " I said forget about it cuh" over 200 times easily, gun to my head I could not tell you a single quote i remember or have heard from the last 5 movies, let alone a car build the 12 year old child in me would fall in love with. Could this be my bias and nostalgia? That is more than likely as i was 11 when i saw and fell in love with Tokyo drift when it came out and immediately went back and watched the first 2 movies, and it defiantly inspired and influenced my love and taste in cars. From the monetary success of the newer films clearly they know how to get a wider audience and give people what they want to see, I am most likely just old nostalgic and jaded. All that said I love these videos and you really do an amazing job on them!
That's a good point actually. I made a similar argument against MF GHOST in my latest video as that also focused more on super cars than it's predecessor did with initial d being affordable JDM. So if I could redo that part I probably would give some acknowledgement to the relatability of the local car scenes at least

I think you aren't exactly right as to what people mean when they speak of "go back to the roots" It's not just about them having JDM cars It's moreso that the first 3 films heavily featured car culture in one way or another. People were fixing cars, showing off their cars, racing their cars with only money on the line, talk about cars and what kinda engine they had etc. That's what we mean with "go back to the roots". We miss car culture in the later movies. And I say this as someone who liked F&F at least until the 7th installment (from the 8th onwards it went kinda too insane for my taste) There are so few movies out there that actually show off car culture

And oso I start loving vin diesel,now I prefer 10 times more Paul walker,oso his character!! Vin made a lot of shit move,and more importantly,he came back to destroy first 3 movie -.- I burn his poster from new DeAgostini 1/43 collection They put first him,second a stupid picture of the scale model Of skyline (a really shit,you can see light attack 100% plastic ) 3° same shit for the supra and they even stop making that -.-

(A pick car) destroy her car! in the middle you have 2° driver on the supra ...he made the jump but he lost controle immediately after the second movie,the yenko jump... The only think bad was the computer graphics,you can clearly see two different sea ,they made that's probably on a lake or something like that and add on another sea,but why whith that's speed they can't? Oso they Destroy 1/3 of the boat... AND WE CAN PLASE SPEACK ABOUT BLOD AND OTHER SCRATCHES??? at list they are Human on the first 3 hahah
