I usually play pretty girlie clothie classes like healers or hunters, but I've done those classes to death (WoW and LotRo) and wanted to try something completely different, with GW 2, so I decided to try out an asura engineer for kicks. I didn't think I'd play her beyond level 10. Turns out I'm having sooooo much fun with this class and race combo. Going to go for a steampunk fantasy with her. She reminds me of my goblin in WoW (my favorite character). Great video - easy to understand for a beginner to GW 2 like myself.
Being a fresh GW2 player and not being an English language native, it is very difficult to me to enjoy the actual game. Until today when i have found your video. Now i enjoy more than visuals and exploration! Today i have managed to solo the Desolation and actually help others on the map. Got 4 mounts already to rank 3! Thank you for your time to explains all these in such a clear way. Btw, GW1 took me lots of years as well to master it, exactly because of the language.

Hey, just started playing the game and after trying bunch of classes decided on Engineer and just want to say thanks for this guide, couldn't find many and this really helped a lot. Game can be little overwhelming for new player and you really broke it down.

Great, but you might want to mention that Bomb Kit takes 18 Hero Points to unlock. So, you'll be well past lvl.11 by the time you get it. It would be nice to have suggestions as to what to use in the meantime, rifle isn't going to cut it. I went with Flamethrower because Grenade Kit doesn't have an auto attack and is cumbersome to use; damage isn't stellar either.
I got my Engineer to level 20 by the time I got the Bomb Kit. I have to say, it feels kind of funky, i.e. not sure i like it. Saw in the "action play" video there is a lot of rifle/mortar action, so maybe don't have to use the bomb kit all the time.
Man, this is so perfect for me. I'm not used to GW2 at all yet and I hate looking up builds and everything being elite specializations i don't have. Like, I need something I ca play NOW. More importantly I just couldn't understand this class but after seeing this now I feel like I understand how its supposed to play. This is perfect, thank you so much!
I feel that rifle is a little underwhelming, I highly recommend double pistol with condition damage. That kills almost as quick as the bomb kit and you can stay at range. Tbh the elite specs are 1000% percent better. Shame really.

Thanks for the guide! I'm a brand new guild wars 2 player (just started this week). You guides have really helped in getting me started. Question, just lvled my Engineer to 20 and have been trying a bunch of the skills/kits/weapons, thus far I've found my pistols doing far more damage than the rifle. Am I missing something? between the bleed, poison, and burning from the pistols it seems to quite a bit more damage. Is it too early in my lvling to see the effectiveness of the rifle (note I havent unlocked bombs yet)
That's great man! With the weapon, you will find that as you level up and you focus your stats and traits in to a power based build, the rifle will be more effective as the pistols are generally condition based weapons. Also, once you have your bombs, you won't be using the main weapon too much and the blunderbuss and rocket jump abilities will be very useful 😃
if you don't want to immediately get burned out on engi don't use bomb kit its boring as fuck, being better off doesn't matter jackshit if you get bored and quit the class/game

Considering how many healing abilities Engineer has access to, I wonder if you'd be willing to agree that Vitality could be swapped for healing power. Picking Elixir H and supply crate alone gives you 3 sources of healing, so instead of having a large health bar but little healing power to refill it, why not have a smaller health bar, but being able to sustain it fairly well? Dunno. I personally play my Engineer as a medic, and almost never die because I can outheal my assailers in almost any situation with just first aid kit's tool belt ability and the medkits from Bunker Down. And if things get spicy, I can plop down the medkits from Supply Crate's toolbelt
I love your guides, learnd a lot from them ❤ However i do wish you would show us the order to pick things For example Bomb Kit requires 19 Hero Points - Do i prioritize this put my first 19 points into it? Rifle Turret 2 HP, Elixir B 2 HP Both of those are cheap/easy enough, but Elixir U is also a 19 HP-er So thats 42 HP - Which means by the time we got those Utility Skills we are maybe level 25, it would be really nice to know which to take first so getting to 25 isnt too difficult If you are an idiot like me i had already sunk 19 HP into Turrets because i assumed "Turrets are best", and i havent touched Kits or Elixirs at all and im currently level 20 Now i know this is my fault and not yours, but not everyone is going to think to search for a video until they start to struggle So it could be that many are level 35 or higher before coming here, but have picked all the wrong skills or at least skills not recommended by you So if you could have done some levelling up, maybe to 20 or so, and then made your video where you pick the skills in the correct order, that would have been super helpful And even you are uncertain in the video which skills people start with and which they dont - this would solve that Im not meaning to complain, i DO appreciate what youve done with these guides But if you were to redo these, especially now we got new players coming again because of the new Expansion, actually showing you pick the skills _actually watching you purchase them one at a time_ in the "correct" order would help a lot of idiots like me 👍
Additional You said we can Detonate our Turrets, i see it on the Tooltip, but it doesnt say HOW to detonate, the Rifle Turret also has a tooltip that says "Automatic Fire" but again how is this activated? These kinds of things would be handy to include in a guide too
I’m curious why you went power over condi… it seems a lot of people choose power builds over condi for leveling. But the engineer has SO MUCH condi with the kits it’s hard to understand why anyone would go power.
Is there any advantage to saving your training points while leveling? I am a super noob atm, enjoying the game thus far but trying to get a grip on a build.
You could use the flamethrower instead which is a lot of fun 😃 the damage isn't as big but it's a good option if you want to keep some distance between you and the enemies 😊

Well you'll have plenty of skills to choose from, between your weapon, kits, toolbelt and turrets but it can be difficult to know the best way to actually do this. The elite specs certainly have a more clear way of playing and are also loads of fun 😃

Hi! For the mortar kit it is important to say that it has great combo synergy with itself. Number 1 is a finisher and 2 to 5 are fields.
Did not know that. So a solo engineer can finish their own combo field?
@@Thomasnmi Yes. All classes can finish their own combo fields but the Engineer's mortar kit is particularly good for it.

You can check 'snap ground target to target' and all those aimable reticles will hit your target.

Rifle jumpshot -> blunderbuss -> swap to bomb then hit glue bomb -> 4 then 2?

incorrect you CAN weapon swap now just not in combat, it used to be just 1 weapon set with NO second slot if I remember correctly

Engineer is a lot of fun to be fair! Have you unlocked elite specs on any of your characters? That can absolutely change the game 😀
