ok i highly recommend this build, i tried it out this afternoon, and was able to take all hps out in crystal desert by my self. thank you for the build and especially for the video editing job
Wife and I just returned for the free Living storys after being absent for 5 years: these videos help a lot! Liked and Subbed! Looking forward to Thief and Elementalist
Another excellent leveling guide. I'm having more fun leveling my Guardian with this build than I did with my Warrior. Looking forward to more leveling builds!
Sweet video. I rolled up a guardian yesterday morning after work(got super bored with the necro 🙈), got to 24 and haven’t touched the traits and stuff yet cuz I couldn’t decide what I wanted to do first. Definitely gives me some hints 👌
Suggestion from someone currently leveling a 27 guardian at the moment. Get "Advance!" as soon as possible. It gets you around so much faster, especially if you don't have a mount. Leap of Faith and then Advance! to get where you want to be. Just steer clear of monsters, because you will attack them.
I know this is an old video but thank you! I’ve just started playing GW2 for the first time and I picked a guardian. I’m level 30 and I can honestly say I didn’t have a clue what I was doing at all 😂 now I actually stand a chance!
Just returned to the game after years away, blown away by how great it is. Picked up the expansions after about an hour of playing the base game too. Can't pick a main though, your videos are a godsend in helping me decide though. Cheers!
@@indiechoices I played Thief and Engi as well when i started out! Thief´s playstyle was enjoyable, but I fell in love with the Engi elite spec Scrapper as dps, tank or support. Before level 80 engi is a bit weird, but it´s worth the grind. Holosmith is mostly a dps elite spec. Later boosted a Revenant (Renegade) which is also a lot of fun with lots of mobility, sustain and damage. I was pleasantly surprised how easy it was to solo many HoT and PoF hero points with the free Soldier gear from boosting. I´d recommend you try out the classes that interest you in PvP (you´ll be upscaled to level 80 so you can even try out the elite specs and different weapon types). Most classes can fill any role based on the skills, weapons and stats you choose.
@@ciraxa Nice one, thanks. I think I'm leaning more towards Engineer, although it does feel a little limited early on but good to know it improves massively.
This was very helpful as a new player. I started following your build at about level 20 and am having a blast. I have one question though. Will using a shield instead of a focus mess the build up greatly? I love using shields and am having a mental problem switching it up :)
If you want to swap the focus out for the shield do it, it's your character 😃 you will lose a bit of DPS but it's a good defensive option and let's me honest, sword and shield just feels right 😃
Nice video mate. Thank you. I am leveling revenant now, but been looking t guardian as well. Came recently from WoW too :) Really enjoying the game so far.
As a new GW2 player your guide has been extremely useful! I love the Guardian and also the fact that I can be a heavy armor wearing caster... I do really like the staff, is it any good you think ? I would main GS and staff
id like to add if using this char for questing especially in early quests it can be very helpful to add "advance" skill to replace the attack or buff...i prefer to replace the ground target attack with it and it help to quickly move around the quest areas between the "*'s"
Wow, this just made my game! I mean wow! Made all the difference in the world. I really really thank you! I was set up way wrong. I'm now leaving a path of destruction. Thanks for pointing a newb in the right direction.
Thanks!! This is basically the current build listed on meta battle web page, but there is three inicial traits different. I ended up using two you use and one from there... It feels like i have slighly more dps 😊
@@HeroicFlamingo For sure!! The trait 1 of Virtue gives you 20% while Aegis is up, you'll always have aegis when entering combat and 20% boost is a lot to give up for the trait 2, which is okay and helps with survivability. But you can also activate the virtue to give more aegis if you lose the passive one and thus get the 20% dmg back in the fight. I just tried to maximaze the dps for open world content as i find it not that hard 😋😋
Yeah, most open world content is pretty manageable so it's probably worth sacrificing a bit of survivability for the joy of cutting through your enemies like a hot knife through butter 😃 nice one!
Great video Coming back to GW and starting fresh and there are VERY few guides on the basics and how to get to 80 rather then what to do at 80. Only question I have after watching is when should I use weapon set 1 and when weapon set 2?
Thanks for this great leveling guide! I am a bit confused because you recommend 1 h sword with focus as 2nd weapon set but every 1 h sword I look at says I need willbender specialization to use. Even the wiki claims guardians can use 1 h sword and says that willbender just unlocks offhand sword. Very confused about that as it seems like everyone agrees guardian can use 1h sword and I'm wondering if that's a recent update to the profession that they no longer can (without willbender).
Hmmm this looks promising! I've tried playing Guardian but never interested me but maybe this will change my mind ^-^ I have a Guardian that's been gathering dust ;)
Why “stand your ground” over “save yourselves”? I feel like you get more damage buffs and defensive buffs by using “save yourselves”. Just curious, I’m very new to GW2
They're both good options but Stand Your Ground has a considerably quicker cooldown and is useful for the upkeep of the resolution effect which is key to the build ☺️ you could certainly use save yourselves though as a decent alternative 😃
This video is really helpful fir new player like me. Just playing guardian but dont know how to play it. Anyway is it guardian a good class for new player? Or there is other claas that more suitable for new player?
The Guardian is a very good class for new players and very forgiving because of how powerful it is ☺️ I definitely think it would be a good starting class
Hi there, i want to focus on my allies not just myself. I dont pay attention to damage that much when playing paladin or guardians. What weapons, skills and specs do you recommend for that. Thanks, have a nice day
I would say for the most part, yes! There are obviously regular balance updates that can make small differences to the way you set things up but as this is a leveling build and not an endgame meta build, it will stay fairly consistent 😃
I wish they would put all the movement attacks on the same key. Sword is #2 and greatsword #3. Would be great for muscle memory to have them all on the same key.
Hero points are spent on unlocking new utility skills and traits 😀 just by getting to level 80, you will earn enough hero points to max out all base skills and traits. The elite specs do require quite a lot more hero points! 😀
@@HeroicFlamingo so is it better to just hold off on using any or just level up everything as i level? also once you spend them are they locked in? or can they be respec'd?
So once you spend them, they are locked in so make sure you spend them on what you need for.the build you are going for 😀 but don't worry too much about spending them in the wrong place as you'll have enough to max it all out eventually!
The Guardian can only wield a sword in the offhand when you unlock the Willbender elite specialization. This requires you to be level 80 and have the expansions so won't be available to a new player ☺️
Yeah, this build is made for PvE and for leveling to 80. When you reach level 80, I would recommend looking in to unlocking a elite spec and using a build for that for most end game content 😃
Beginner build? From 1-80? I logged in, made a guardian. I don't have the sword or any of the gear you have on. I don't have the skills you talked about. Is this Guild Wars 2? Maybe I purchased the wrong game.
Personally I lost interest after realizing you'll run around with 11k hp and have to cringe at everything and perfectly time your crap. Hard pass for me.

You're welcome 😃 it's actually so much fun to play when you get used to keeping up your buffs!
This did help a lot. I'm in the same boat Larper Dixon - Coming from WOW, pleaying a Guardian. I love it so far.

have you tried just right click and equip it?
One thing I am unsure of is weapon swapping, when do you actually switch to your second set? - lvl 50 and I find myself just using the Greatsword
Well the idea is you switch between them pretty much on cooldown while your skills recharge 😀
do you have combat guide for HoT insanely annoying mobs in open world ?
I don't but wouldn't be a bad idea! The learning curve in the combat from moving to base game to HoT is staggering!
Awesome!
