    I just purchased my first Baofeng, a UV-9R Plus, and the programming is very similar. I wish this video was out last week! Your method is simple, compared to other peoples videos. It seems confusing, at first, but once I understood: All settings, for a channel, are made before you save that specific channel, into memory, then it makes sense. I just had to "delete all" memory channels, before starting. This ensures you start with a clean slate. (Then set the language to english!) Then start programming channels.

    Can you tell me if the Baofeng UV-5R+Pro is or can be used as a GMRS radio? I got my GMRS license a few months ago and received a UV-5R+Pro for Christmas but can't get it to communicate with my friends GMRS radios.

    This went completely over my head. I don't know what half of that means. I got the tenway uv-5r pro accidentally thinking it was a baofeng ham. I can't figure out how to set this up. I have no idea what frequency I should be on or anything... Help 😂👌

    • @BuyTwoWayRadios
      @BuyTwoWayRadios  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We do not carry the Tenway UV-5R Pro, but a quick search indicates that it is a Baofeng UV-5R, only rebranded as "Tenway". If, so, the same programming applies. The Baofeng UV-5R and its varients are not plug-and-play for consumer use. They need to be programmed to the frequency or frequencies that are licensed to the user who operates it. In other words, if you are a business and you have a business radio license, you would use the frequency assigned to your company according to your license. If you are an amateur (ham) radio operator, you would use the range of frequencies assigned for ham radio use.

      Exactly my feeling. After struggling to make sense of the mini-instructions "manual", I only was able to scan and to program, like I used to with my defunct Radio Shack 200Ch scanner, the 2 frequencies that I know by heart, experimenting to see if the keypad would do as simply. The rest, fugerabourit... And this video is like showing something to the blind.

    How do I access my saved frequencies? When I want to access channel 1, when I push 1 it thinks I want to manually enter a frequency. What do I press to access chanel 1, or 2, etc.?

    • @BuyTwoWayRadios
      @BuyTwoWayRadios  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you saved the frequency to channel 1, you will want to switch to channel mode and choose that channel.

  • @rootbeer9215

    I have accidentally pressed the reset all button and it deleted every Chanel what should I do?

    • @BuyTwoWayRadios
      @BuyTwoWayRadios  ปีที่แล้ว

      The reset setting reverts all the information in the radio back to the factory default. To recover the lost channels you will need to reprogram them into the radio. If you have your settings saved in the programming software such as CHIRP then simply import those settings back into the radio. Otherwise the only other solution is to re-program it as you did before. You can also program it manually from the keypad as shown in in this article:

    I recently got a Beofang UV-5R, and I'm new to the radio hobbie. At my job all of my supervisors use a type of radio without any screen on it, they're all on channel 1. I was wondering if there was a way to use my Beofang (Not to transmit!) But to be able to listen to what they're saying so I can get the inside scoop on what's going on.

    • @BuyTwoWayRadios

      That will all depend on the frequency they are on and if you program the Baofeng to those frequencies. If they are using digital radios, you will not be able to.

I have set them up like you have shown in your video, but, only one will Transmit when I push the talk button. • @BuyTwoWayRadios

      You can always try resetting the radio, as it is likely that a setting was changed somewhere without realizing it. If there are still issues, your best bet is to contact the manufacturer directly about the issue since we do not carry Baofeng products anymore.

    Hi how do I find out what my DCS IS ,Is it the same # as he says in the video or is it different for different places - [cities ]

    • @BuyTwoWayRadios
      @BuyTwoWayRadios  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      A DCS code, also known as a DPL or privacy code or tone, is assigned by the user. There is no requirement to even have a DCS code, unless you are trying to communicate with someone else who is using one on their radio, in which case you would need to use the same code they are using in order to hear them. This episode of our Two Way Radio Show Podcast explains what privacy codes are and how they are used. www.buytwowayradios.com/blog/2011/04/twrs-08_-_talking_publicly_about_privacy_codes.html

    • @BuyTwoWayRadios

      To scan the channels, simply put it into Channel Mode and hold down the *SCAN button for two seconds. It should begin to scan all of the assigned channels. You can set it to search for an active channel if the Scan function is set to Search Mode (SE).

    • @BuyTwoWayRadios

      DCS stands for Digital Coded Squelch. CTCSS tones and DCS codes are commonly referred to as privacy codes or interference eliminator codes. They filter out unwanted conversations from others on the same channel and frequency. Episode 8 of The Two Way Radio Show podcast explains privacy codes in more detail.

    Dear Rick, I just recently purchased 8W Baofeng UV-5R, and have been programming BF-888S Frequencies (16 Channels) onto it using the steps on this video. But so far, only channels 2, 3, 10, 11, 14, and 15 are working. The other 10 channels, i am only receiving messages but cannot transmit. Do you have a solution to this issue? Please help.

    • @BuyTwoWayRadios
      @BuyTwoWayRadios  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Reagan, we need more information. You mentioned the channel numbers, but I have no idea what frequencies you programmed into them, so the question is difficult to answer. The BF-888S supports a wide range of frequencies, so "BF-888S frequencies" doesn't really tell me anything about which specific frequencies they are. Also, the UV-5R is a dual band radio, and the BF-888S is a single band, UHF only radio.
      It is important to know that if you are in the US, the BF-888S often comes pre-programmed with frequencies that may not be not legal to transmit on without a license, so you want to be aware of the potential legal ramifications.
      From a technical standpoint, based on the limited information given, it could be a myriad of reasons why the two radios are not communicating. We need more information with as much detail as you can provide.

    • @BuyTwoWayRadios
      @BuyTwoWayRadios  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Not exactly. It means that the communication travels in one direction at a time. In other words, if two people are using the channel and one person is transmitting, the other person must wait until the first person stops transmitting before the second person can transmit back. Both cannot listen and speak at the same time.
