    If you have a mixer you may not need to purchase something like a usb audio interface to record into your PC desktop or laptop because most computers have line inputs. You may simply need to get the correct cables and set up the correct settings inside of your computer to get clean audio inside of your computer so you can record podcast, and voice overs for your videos.

    Mannn. Thank you, sooooo much for doing this video. I've been having so many problems trying to figure out why I wasn't getting an audio signal from my "Tape Outs". Your video helped me figure out that I needed to plug into the Blue "Line in" on the back of my P.C. I was using the Microphone in, and It wasn't working. And, so many of these other videos failed to explain this; which is asinine to me, seeing as we live in a computer age. Not to mention that they are long winded and repeat themselves too much. You're a good teacher. I wish I could pay you to come to my studio. Thanks. Your knowledge has been invaluable!!!

    • @MatthewStratton
      @MatthewStratton  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      What AMS-CSGO said. Are you using a dynamic microphone? If you are using a condenser microphone make sure that you have the 48v phantom power on if that is what it calls for. Is the volume of the mic low when you use the mixer by itself? Like if you use headphones with the mixer? Need a bit more information to answer your question properly.

      hey! ive been learning more about this stuff also. I found out for laptops you still can do it, but you will need a TRRS cable that separates the mic and audio connections. because i was planning on switching between a second computer(laptop) and my cellphone to take calls. I decided to get something like the iRig 2, which makes it safe to connect your phone to the mixer for input. they are pretty affordable and also work on my laptop!

    Just on levels, in analogue audio, 0 VU (Volume Unit) is about where the analogue signal level needs to be for saturation without clipping. VU metering was designed to provide a level to aim for when setting signal gain. So 0 VU is the industry standard signal level and keeping an audio signal at that level throughout an audio system ensures optimal S/N performance for that system. There are different scales though so here is an equivalence:
    - VU = +4 dBu = +1.782 dBv = 1.228 V rms = 3.472 V P-P = -18 dBfs
    dBfs is the scale that all DAW programs use for digital audio where 0 dBfs is Full Signal, meaning the signal is clipping.
    Digital clipping is very bad, much worse that analogue clipping. So, avoid 0 dBfs at all costs. This is why -18 dBds is pretty much the industry standard digital target level for digital recording.
    Every +10 dB in any of the dB scales is perceived as twice as loud.
    I just wanted to say that because it's annoying when TH-cam videos have either excessively low or high audio levels.

    Hello & thanks for all your tutorials. My question is: I recently purchased the Xenyx Q802USB for my home based recording studio. I record music thru my two keyboards on cubase. Does this particular model mixer "with USB interface" suits for multi track recording?? If not, then I also own a bit older audio interface (Alpha Lexicon). Will I get an excellent audio quality & multi track recording on cubase if I first connect my two keyboards to the Behringer & then use Lexicon Alpha as the main audio interface to my pc/DAW (as suggested in one of your videos)? Thanks
