I love that Yamaha mixer. It is highly durable and completely underrated. The sound that it pushes out is just about perfect to be able to create a good mix.

      100%
It works like a charm and the preamps are pretty good enough for my home setup and my live music setup too.
I ve played nearly every week with that mixer live since 2012.
Couple that with a zoom h1 and I can record all those live gigs on the fly.

for a cheap mixer those yamaha mg series are great. i have an old yamaha mg12 that has been used as a headphone amp and run my monitors through it so i can pull the fader..done that for years. the other day i thought I would try out the preamps..been a decade since i last used it with a mic. surprised how quiet they were and how nice the eq sounded. now put it back into service with a couple of trs running into my interface..motu 828mk3..nice to have a few extra options..like Christmas day all over again just by using my old mixer..love it.

You can also plug a standard 1/4 in patch cable into the insert of preamp channle on your mixer (only to the first click not all the way, it will become a send) and the other end into your interface / instrument input that will run to your daw. Then output from the daw back to the mixer/ tape in or aux in with the blend knob of the interface turned all the wat to playback and have zero latency for recording as well. Effectively doing the blending on the outboard mixer.

@@who_we_are______5926 by getting the feed from pre recorded audio from the daw into the mixer and the signal from whats being recoreded into the mixer you have effectively zero latency, coming out of the mixer to your speakers or headphones.

Hi. Would you kindly show me how to connect a Mackie ProFX12v2 with Roland Studio-Capture interface? I followed your guide and connected from the Main L/R out of the ProFX to the Input-1 and Input-2 of the Roland, I could only get the music sound without the vocal. I used two laptops: 1 was to play the music source from a TH-cam clip and the other was to record, using a DAW software. The ProFX had an USB interface, and it worked to record directly from the sound board. However, the vocal affected the quality of the music sound when I used the USB. I hope to be able to use the Roland to capture the mixed sound of both vocal and music with a better quality. Thanks so much, and I greatly appreciate it.

    • @AyyuBX7
      @AyyuBX7 ปีที่แล้ว

What kind of mixer do you have? Most mixers have more than one output.
Worst case scenario what we did in the 80s and 90s was when recording we use the outs for just that. After recording we unplug the recording cables and plug in the speakers to start mixing.
Another way to do it is to get a y jack and plug it into your headphones jack and use that for your speakers while using the main outs for your input recording.
There are many ways to flip this script.

09:21 - question. Why not have a cable with TRS and XLR so you can take the balanced main out from the mixer and feed that into the XLR on the interface? Line outs from the RC 505 to line ins on the mixer (if you use channels 3 and 4 or 5 and 6 instead of the first two, you can still plug in two XLR mics). The main outs on the mixer connect to your Focusrite. The Focusrite connects by USB (looks like type "c") to your computer, but it probably works fine with USB 2.0 so you probably need a type C to type A connector (one might be provided). As long as you stay on unity gain on the mixer channels you're using, same on the "main mix" and keep your interface inputs at the lowest gain setting you should be fine, assuming the RC 505 outputs at a decent level. I don't own a Focusrite so check your manual.

Does it make sense to connect a Yamaha 12 channel mixer to a Universal Audio Apollo X4 to have more inputs? Are any of the properties of the interface lost with this connection? Or, do the mixer gains the interface properties?

What if you are recording drums and you want all channels to be their own recording to adjust in the DAW? How would you accomplish that? Thanks.

You’ll need an interface with several inputs to record several tracks simultaneously.

Hi, i need your advice on how to get the most of my Motu M4 and my very old Mackie 1604 vlz pro mixer for recording in my software (studio one).
If you can explain to me a few things as they confuse me a lot!
Especially about panning the instruments for recording.
Let's have different situations where i record only myself (one vocal mic and one mic for acoustic guitar or electric) and another with others musicians (vocal, bass, electric gtr, e-drums).
It's the panning and the mono vs stereo and busses and all of that that really turn my head upside down!
    Please i need you help!

Hey, so yes dealing with mono instruments is definitely tricky. I promise I will do a video on this in the next few weeks but till then here’s some quick advice. I always double track my acoustic guitars and electric guitar rhythms. This way I can hard pan them right/left in parts of the song where I want the track to be very wide. I always leave kick drum, snare drum, main vocals, and bass down the center of the mix. The drum overheads, room mics, and back up vocals are usually wide to very wide depending on the type of track.
