      There's book written about them in '74 called *The Swarm*, by Arthur Herzog. It was later made into a movie in '78, but it was a box office flop.

    When I was a kid we were playing kickball in an old gravel parking lot that wasn't used anymore. In the corner of the lot was a HUGE "thing" hanging from a tree. It was kind of like a giant grey pinata. Before any of us had even noticed this thing, naturally, due to sod's law, the ball bounced and hit it, and of course I was the lucky one that happened to be running after the ball. I got about 10 ft from the hive before I realized what it was, that is when the first sting happened. I started running away, and I was being stung as I was running...and screaming. As I ran past the other kids, as fast as I could, the stings became less, but now, some of the kids that were laughing at me as I was flailing my arms as I was running, were now also being stung and running for their lives too. Even though I was the first one stung, the ten or twelve stings I got was less than some of the other kids. After I got home and treated for the stings, I showed my parents where the nest was and they called the authorities to dispose of the nest. It was actually the fire department that came and burned the hive down. We found out later, which I had already known since I had such a close look, that the bees were "white-faced hornets". I have been stung by many bees over the years, mostly yellow-jackets, and regular honey bees, and once by a large wasp which got me on the bridge of my nose. Nothing ever compared to those white-faced hornets, the pain was really bad and I was itchy like crazy as the stings were healing. Granted I was stung multiple times on that occasion so the experience as a whole was obviously more painful but I would put the pain of the sting of one of those against any other. Are there any bee-keepers here? Do those bees have more potent venom than others? The wasp sting was bad too but I always figured it was worse because it was on my face. The wasp was much bigger than I remember the hornets being. I guess I will just google it to see but this video reminded me of that encounter which I hope I never have to experience again.

      Sagan Worshipper The white faced hornets are a nasty breed. I have been stung by them before, and i can confirm that their sting is way worse than the sting of any other bee.

    • @wrldisyours3328
      @wrldisyours3328 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      the bald face or white faced hornets are bad but these are worse. they release venom. 2 things happen then. 1 the venom sack falls out and it keeps pumping venom for 5 or so minutes and 2 in releases a scent that will attract all the other killer bees close by and they won't stop till you either get far enough away or you're dead. and they will go more that a quarter of a football field when they are in attack mode from the initial sting location

      +jalthaus Africanized bees will often pursue something they perceive as a threat to the hive as far as half a mile. I have been chased as much as 200 yards.

    • @carlosmiravete1159
      @carlosmiravete1159 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +wildcat19671 if a swarm of killer bees attack a fat person that weighs like 300 pounds it will be absolutely impossible to outrun them and would die, plus killer bees are assholes they attack for no reason! even if you dont do anything

    • @wildcat19671
      @wildcat19671 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Carlos Miravete Not true at all. Bees attack because they feel the hive is threatened. sometimes that is because you just got too close to them. most of the time it involves noise or vibrations they don't like. Unless you jostle a hive physically disturb it, they will warn you first. The guard bees will bump into you usually in the face and chest. If you don't swat at them, turn and walk away, they will not sting you. You must not swat them, if you do you will get stung. once you do get stung when dealing with Africanized bees you will continue to be stung until you get a quarter of a mile or more away. Africanized queens produce much more alarm pheromone than European queens. Africanized bees react more aggressively to the alarm pheromone and sting pheromone than European bees. They do not attack indiscriminately for no reason. European bees have been bred for thousands of years to be more docile.

    "y do they call them killer bees?" the venom is no more toxic than the regular bee. but instead of a few bees coming out to sting u, it's pretty much the whole colony that attacks, which fills ur body w/more than enough venom to kill u. but i watched a video of a guy that was attacked by practically the whole hive of regular bees, which apparently were upset by the vibrations of the tractor he was on as he went by them. he was lucky to have survived. moral of the story: always assume that any colony of bees has the potential to kill u.

    Wouldn't have all the bees that stung them died?? If so, this whole film project would have been utterly useless since we already had knowledge on how killer bees react.

    • @OmegaMegalodon
      @OmegaMegalodon 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Alexis Garcia may be that's why they protect themselves, so that the bees will not stung them successfully and thus the bees do not have to die as they can't stung now.

      Only females sting. Honeybees have such a massive colony that they are afforded the ability to sacrifice some members of their community to defend their turf. But yup, I believe all those who had their stingers ripped from their abdomens died.

    • @stephenkalpakian6500
      @stephenkalpakian6500 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Alexis Garcia They die if their stinger stays in the object. If they are just poking and not actually succeeding in stinging the object, they will still live.

  • @ABeardedDwarf
    @ABeardedDwarf 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Honeybees have barbed stingers, whereas African killer bees have smooth stingers. The danger of African killer bees is not just the swarm, but the fact that the bees can sting multiple times before the stinger essentially wears out and starts to get stuck.

    The honeybee doesn't *necessarily* die when it stings. When they die, it's because their stinger gets stuck and tears their abdomen when they try to fly off.

    From the article, "www.cnet.com/news/watch-what-happens-when-you-disturb-a-hive-of-40000-killer-bees/"
    "Remember when you were a kid and you were playing outside and got stung by a bee for the first time? You probably ran into the house crying to your mom as if you'd been bayonetted in the arm by some mutant insectoid"
    Man, do I ever remember, I remember being 7 years old, I was in Hawaii with my grandparents visiting my aunt and uncle and all my cousins, my cousins and I were playing outside when someone noticed some wasps had taken a frog and built a nest around him and stuck him underneath the stairs leading to the second landing.
    Of course being the kids that we were, we had to make a game out of it, so my older cousins started to jump over the step that the frog was attached to, we did this for a long time, and me being bored, I decided to jump onto the step with both feet as hard as I could, they of course flew out from under the step and proceeded to swarm me, I can still recall seeing a lone wasp landing on my thigh and start to sting me, it hurt like hell and I ran inside to my grandmother screaming and crying like a little girl, she put some vinegar on me and I was as good as new.
    To this day I'm still scared of bees, especially those big black ones, but bees, wasps, it doesn't matter, I still get that twitch whenever I see them, including this video, you know that twitch, like seeing a snake or bugs, or whatever, but they still scare me, oh yea, I'm also still afraid of going in the water, but that's another movie.

    A MOVIE crew. :-) You do not film, you video. Film, filming, and filmmaking are the most misused words in the industry. 🙂 Digital Video and film require different skill sets. Having DIFFERENT historical and TECHNOLOGICAL timelines spanning 150 years. Have pride and knowledge of the gear we use including the words that describe what we do. Our tools are Digital Video, Non-linear, and CGI. We are moviemakers, not filmmakers. We do what film wished it could. We are Videographers and/or cinematographers. 🙂 We video or are videoing, we do not film. That's the other RARE professionals who know how to use film and film cameras, like an ARRIFLEX 435 Panavision R-200 and Steenbeck flatbed film editors. Know the difference and have a better understanding of the craft. You will also stand out in an industry polluted with point-and-shoot "pros". Respect to you.✌♥

    I used to be afraid of all bees until I lived in an apartment with a HUGE colony of European Honey bees living in the wall above my stairs on the outside of the building. Since my landlord was family, there wasn't a rush to remove them so I started researching them and ended up living with them without any issue for two years. The hot days, they would swarm like crazy above my steps and you'd literally have to walk right through them and I never was stung. The only time I ever was stung was when they made it inside and I just so happened to step on one in the dark. They are such a unique species and are fun to watch, they also seem to be very curious.

      From what I've heard, It's because of how dense human skin is, Their stingers get stuck and they end up ripping their insides out when they try to fly away.

    They are called killer due to the number of them defending & are from Africa. the word anger does not apply that is a human thing. I went to see other videos if they are true men were working with killer bee hives in order to help in some ways. I can only know facts from personal experience. Bees are docile as are wasps but have not seen killer bees.

    sad thing is africanized bees are more resistant to mites and other things that kill off european bees and they make more honey as well. O and all those stingers you see is a dead bee.

      the Asus pro Mac is a lie fun fact: smoke makes the bees think their hive is on fire, so they will eat as much honey as they can which calms them down. It's why bee keepers use smoke.
