What a beautiful bird 😻. I’ve never heard of them.
Me neither. But it sounds like any animal whose name begins with "Honey" is best avoided. 😲
Amazing abilities didn’t know about these raptors
There's a famous photo of a honey buzzard flying off with a big piece of comb while the hapless bees try to stop it, look it up.
I have when I first saw video I thought it a hawk.
Imagine feeding on honey only, anyone will look beautiful and strong 😅
Never thought there were birds out there brave enough to attack wasp and bee nests! Crazy cool!
I mean you can afford to be brave if you're especially adapted against something.
And EVEN HORNETS!!!!
@@ceresbane your species won't get adapted against something w/o painful selection
@@aboomination897 Yeah, there was definitely an unarmored bird hitting those hives. Probably no food around, desperately taking those stings and showing it to it's buzzard chicks. I wonder how long it took. 100,000 years? 400,000 years? Over a million years? It typically takes around 150,000 years to develope a new species. I'm intrigued
@@doragonsureia7288 You can see that besides the feathers the beak has also turned into a much more average looking pecking beak opposed to the flash tearing raptor beaks. It even looks a bit like a dove with those even feathers.
Wow that bird looks absolutely stunning. Beautiful red eyes.
What gorgeous, unique birds!! A little bit buzzard, a little bit hawk in appearance! Such a fascinating avian 🥰❤️
I was thinking buzzard and dove.
It looked like the last buzzard was swallowing the insects whole. They must be partially immune at least for them to be able to swallow a stinging insect live.
I doubt a single bee sting would kill any large animal (that doesn't go into anaphylactic shock, that is). Add to that, if the insect is crushed quickly enough in the mouth it might not get to shove its ovipositor (the stinger) into a vulnerable soft part quick enough.
@@neillynch_ecocidologist If you look at 2:53 it just swallowed that bee whole. Didn't even crush it.
@@AzurePrower Birds do have tongues, you know? Insect enters mouth, tongue presses against palate crushing insect. Insects are very easy to crush. (Edit: that should read 'many are'. But hymenoptera do not have the armour of a stag beetle for instance.)
@@AzureProwerI’ve seen people eating bees whole
@@neillynch_ecocidologist You cannot easily crush a bee with your tongue and it is way stronger than a birds. And it would have a nearly 100% success rate of stinging you if you tried.
Wow, as the birds are gobbling down larvae and honeycomb, it sure looks like the occasional bee or hornet is eaten too!!😳
High protein meal.
That means they are also immune to internal stings. Crazy impressive. Highly specialized animals.
Yum! Spicy! Peppery! Bet you can't eat just one!
*I would have never thought that Honey Badgers have allies in the sky the Honey Buzzards!*

Remarkable adaptation.
Explain the process
Indeed!
@@thingserik7269 Birds get hungry and out of desperation start eating hornet larvae. Most all of the birds are repelled and die of hunger or from getting stung. A very few birds are not quite as bothered by the stings as the other birds, and they breed. Iterate this process over millions of years and you end up with the honey buzzard.

What a trip! I've never even heard of these birds before. Truly astonishing! 😮
They are in Yorkshire, England too. Wondered about them getting stung but amazing nature has a solution for everything, as usual. Feathers did evolve from scales, so I guess this bird being, armoured, can be taken as evidence of that also.
My father told me story of man that was playing golf and took a sip of his drink. What he didn't realize was there was a bee in it and it stung him in the throat. He died from the bee sting. Check your drink before taking a sip.
Ok...
My grandma almost met the same fate thanks to a paper wasp which got in her drink. She spit it out before it could end up in her throat, though it still managed to sting her lower lip.
I was once lapping up water from a river. There was an alligator in it. So, yes, folks, be sure to check every drink before taking a sip!

I love birds of prey, this is my first time seeing information on the Honey Buzzard, what an amazing animal.
I loved, firstly how clever the bee's were to realize it's pointless trying to do anything except go for the odd eye strike and they had all accepted what was happening was happening!
And secondly, that final bird just contently looking around chewing larvae has gone beyond even visually registering the adult bees/hornets anymore - he literally just sees the larvae lol 😂
Those are not Asian giant hornets.
While the anti-sting defences of the honey buzzard also work against giant hornets, those tend to nest underground, and they don’t look like the hornets here.
they nest underground? Like ants?
@goku445 Yeah kinda like yellow jackets in the U.S.A. The nest structure is largely the same as those that make hung nests just an excavated cavity instead.
Sort of feel like they should have led with the bees and then transitioned into murder hornets, cause it's like starting with Muhamed Ali boxing Mike Tyson and ending On Iron Mike vs Jake Paul
Also, the birds name gave away the ending.

Yes! First you have hornets, then come buzzards feeding on them, next approaches a mammal with a camera filming the whole process for the purpose of making money or of educating other members of the species it belongs to; after this follow individuals who comment on that entire chain, before, perhaps, there will arrive other people, again, who even read such comments and are inspired by them.
