Her death makes me so sad cause it just doesn't make sense. She worked all of her life to reach that point and then all was shattered in one day, just for the evil heart of a human. She deserved to stay longer, enjoy her marriage, have fun on stage, be loved by her family, and all the things that were taken away from her. So young, man. It just doesn't make sense and it truly never will. But she was a vibrant person and at least she got to enjoy love, from her husband, family and fans before things ended how it ended. Rest in peace Selena.

    • @ASmith-jn7kf

Her husband told her not to go alone yet she snuck out to do that. She also met with her another time and she had a gun and she told her husband and still felt safe?? Do not walk in the path of sinners or sit in the seat of scoffers, that's in the Bible. If people only knew about Godly wisdom and would read they would know.

Not just that. Her husband told her not to go alone. She left early and without him intentionally. She also went back into the room with her after she took her to the hospital because she told her she was raped and there she found out she was lying. Something else was going on. Embezzlement but no lawsuit or cops called??? Financial records she couldn't get some other way or that she couldn't get someone else to get?? What records were they?? She also told her husband she had had a gun before. It's so confusing. If something illegal was going on I think she would have said but then again she never admitted to embezzling any money so if there was some funny financial business then she probably wouldn't say anything.

@@terrelljones7562 Exactly. There's this notion among some people that Selena "wasn't well - known outside of Texas" before her passing, but that's not really true. By 1994 - the year before - she had already performed all over the U.S., including many cities that some might not associate with Tejano music, as well as in Mexico, in the Caribbean, and Central and South America, as far away as Argentina. News organizations from literally all over the world covered her service, and a church in Spain, which was designed to hold 500 people, held a memorial mass for her. 1,500 people showed up, even though she never got the chance to perform in Spain. It seems that Selena was more well - known than even SHE realized.

I'm Puertorican. I lived in Bronx, NY when this happened. ALL Latinos loved her and on this day, we all mourned together. March 31st, 1995. I remember this day, the entire day, the entire night. I remember every moment because she was taken from us. She was loved by men, women, children, young and old, everyone. Even though she was beautiful on the outside, she was loved more for her spirit. She radiated happiness. Happiness poured out of her and reached us at every corner of the world. She was a beautiful soul.

Kids who weren't born until 10-15 years after her death know all of her songs. Every time you walk into a Mexican restaurant here in Houston, there's a selena song playing. Years later when J Lo did the biopic
It hit me that was the young superstar I remembered back in San Antonio. I also purchased some of her music for my iPod. Don't speak the language or understand what she's singing but I love 💕💗 the music. Love you Selena 💞💗💕🌹🌺🌸🏵️🌼🌻💮

She opened the door for other Latin and Hispanic women to pursue their dreams. You can still see the influence and impact she’s had in other artists. At least, I still see her everywhere, and if there is an afterlife she would be proud of the impact she left behind and how many people still love her today. There will never be another Selena, though, she genuinely was one of a kind. I was only a year old when Selena died, but my mother would play her music through out the house. I grew up singing thanks to Selena. Her voice will always give me goosebumps.

When you look at Selena's life, even though she left us young, her life was more full than most people will ever live, even past the age of 23. Some people are truly angels who were only meant to be with us for a set period of time, but the things they accomplish in that small window defy logic.
Selena's life and her impact are perfect examples of that. For someone's life to be that brief and still to this day, continue to be celebrated and re-discovered by new generations tells you how special she truly was.
All of the young girls who had the privilege of meeting her or going to a concert, now have daughters of their own and telling their stories about who she was and her talent. It all comes full circle.
May "The Queen of Tejano Music" forever rest peacefully.

My mother was barely 23 when Selena passed. She was cuddling my big brother (3 at the time) when the news broke on the TV. She cried and cried, for an entire week. Last night, after 20 or so years of not hearing it, I played Dreaming Of You. She broke down in tears. Still to this day she feels her death. Even I, someone who was born 8 years after her passing, heavily feel it. Selena was not just a superstar, but a lovely rose. She was the prettiest and sweetest rose, barely starting to bloom her petals. Unfortunately, she got picked too early and was not allowed to blossom.

But I remember watching the coverage of this all day with my dad. I didn't understand why my dad was crying and so sad. John Lennon was my dad's hero, I think he really connected with the sadness felt by her fans. In the next days, and to this day we listened to a lot of Selena's music and found there is no way to not love it. So uplifting, songs that stick in your head, even if you don't understand the words you feel the meaning. If Selena were to be among us in 2021, she would've probably still lived in Corpus Cristi or somewhere in southeast Texas. No matter how big she would've become, she was enough of a humble person to be among the community who have supported her.
She would've conquered the industry, and probably have Tejano music STILL mainstream. The industry would not be what it is today. Bigger than JLo, Beyonce. Bigger than every diva we know of today.
Now she is just a beautiful memory of better, and fun days... Selena will be immortal.
