Dil Se is Rahman's most pathbreaking music till date. Each and every song is a beast of its own. Keeping aside Chhaiyya Chhaiyya, the other songs too are masterpieces. Jiya Jale, Ae Ajnabi ( Udit's best), Satrangi Re (one song depicting 7 stages of love) and that bombastic title track which is the best of the lot. Rahman's high notes along witg that signature bass guitar give goosebumps. And this bass guitar was played by none other than Guy Pratt, the bass guitarist for Pink Floyd.

Even I too feel this many times. Though every composition of Rahman is out of the box and doesn't repeat itself, this album is too special in that respect. Every song is so unique from the other and highly path breaking. It's really tough to choose one favourite from all the songs. And despite all the unusual experimentation, each song had its own charm with its own instrumentation and even a new style altogether.
Ofcrs, there's a Magnum opus album like Taal or Roja or Rangeela but in terms of being extremely unconventional and path breaking nothing can beat this album and yet each song has a cult following to this date. That's truly a Dilse magic from ARR!

Jiya Jale (Dil se), Ek tu hi bharosa (Pukar), Khamoshiyan (1, 2 ka 4), O paalnhaare ( Lagaan), Luka Chhupi (Rang De Basanti) ---- these are absolute gems but there is another fantastic Lata -Rahman song which never got its due , like the other songs of this film. The song is So Gaye Hain and the film is Zubeida.

Dil SE , the movie and it's music are Pure emotions and essence. But, I was really shocked that the movie became flop. It's music are absolutely masterpieces from Rahman.

Great listening to Gulzar ji and that too for an evergreen album like Dilse. Each song is a cult masterpiece and the mandate is still there even to this date and that's the real deal here!
Though every composition of Rahman is out of the box and doesn't repeat itself, this album is too special in that respect. Every song is so unique from the other and highly path breaking. It's really tough to choose one favourite from all the songs. And despite all the unusual experimentation, each song had its own charm with its own instrumentation and even a new style altogether. Ofcrs, there's a Magnum opus album like Taal or Roja or Rangeela but in terms of being extremely unconventional and path breaking nothing can beat this album and yet each song has a cult following to this date. That's truly a Dilse magic from ARR!
Gulzarji's analysis too is point on. We cannot say how much ARR or his music is influenced by Gulzar but it's really great to see Rahman's musical influences on Gulzar and every word that comes from him is a testament to that.
Finally, not for the sake of Oscars but their combo is anyway still one of the best all-time lyricist - music director combo and their very first album itself had set such a huge benchmark in that regard.
After Chitra ji's memorable interview on her mesmerising voice, the tempo atleast can sustain because of Gulzar saab's golden bytes about their unusual combination. Keep it up O2 India and lastly, the cover songs this time have got better than we usually get to hear.

Very well said. No doubt, he's a musical magician. Satrangi re, too is very different like all the other songs. If each song has its own soul, this song had a unique opera type feel to it lending its own hauntingness!

Gulzar sahaab mentioned about rahman breaking structure of song.... example of such songs are phir se ud chala from rockstar, ghanan ghanan from Lagaan etc
Another example can be a song which was sung by Chitra ji in the last episode from Ok Kanmani. It has so many Carnatic classical harkathe infused in a movie song which is very rare to see happening in light or film music medium.
