- While exploring Xaysomboun we stumble upon a not too old, but very weathered UNIMOG.. without a doubt one of the best 4x4 trucks ever built! Perfect for overlanding... if you can afford it!

Gotta love 3:54 with Todds mission to piss of the bald spot that really caught my attention as to how that would be achieved but another successful mission of course.
There's only really one way to piss off the bald spot.. ya know what they say. If ya can't beat em, join em 🤓
@@NowinLao
I've heard that most bald spots are the results of years of banging one's head against the bed's headboard. Get a longer bed or remove the headboard. 🙏
@@MichaelJonesC-4-7 Hmmm.. I heard it was from U-turns under the bed sheets 🤔
@@NowinLao
Hah! 🤣
The beer looks like Coopers Lager Homebrew.
Long time subscriber here. I like that you always show the details and costs for the local Pxuissy guesthouses in each town. And u so good to Ms Neenee. What a treasure is she bro. Detroit, Michigan, USA.
Thank you for hanging around so long.. Great to see you're still here. Cheers 🍻
3 beer Claire can do anything 🎉❤😂
Beaut views ,once again. That Unimog was interesting . Kenno
Thank you very much for another very nice episode with lots of beautiful drone shots and Good Mood Mina
it all depends,
if you need adventure! than the unimog is for you, it will breakdown a lot, parts are hard to come by and super expensive.... also you need an expert to repair it. good luck changing tires.....
however, if you hate adventure then the troopy is the one, it never breaks down, parts are readily available on every corner even in small towns and villages at very reasonable prices and anyone can repair it.
hope that helps...
Love the Intro...Beautiful place 😊😊😊
You break me up Todd, "Look at the devastation....hey nice looking Troopy over there"
I laughed my monkey ring off...I also at 61 yrs old have a bald spot! not cool but whatever.
Really enjoy seeing your adventures and group dynamic.
Yes is the answer your looking for
The Unimog is equipped with 6 spd Forward / 6 spd Reverse + Double Clutch Transmission + Exhaust Air Braking
6 and 6 holy moly OWWW-my leg 😝. I’m little, so when younger I would’ve taken up the challenge of learning to drive this! I did so much more, even had my commercial license CDL, and drove the land yachts called Limousine’s! Never got the chance to learn an 18 wheeler coz I’m a girl! That’s how it WAS back in my day. Because I’m little everyone underestimated me lol. I conquered and won many challenges-imma little ol feisty ankle biter, who USED to be a feisty redhead!! That vehicle looks like it eats rocks for lunch😝😉! I haven’t fully watched video yet but had to address my immediate thought. With all the villages you go to that are virtually impossible to get to, I’d state yes, do so for your family’s sake. Worthy investment. I’ve been around motorcycles all my life as well-hey-it was where the BOYS were!!! No wonder dirt bikes navigate those rocks, potholes, and ruts YALL call a road! Lol I know you and Neenee know they’re not Todd. Ok back. 🙏🏻
Brother worked as a hydrographer in Lao.. he says unregulated logging is causing sub-surface subsidence and land slips.
Unfortunately this is happening way too often here mate.. seen it first hand today 😏
Anything mate with a three pointed star on the bonnet is expensive for parts. I would suggest stay with the troopy.
Always planned to mate. Besides, you know that thing won't fit along the trails we take. Can ya imagine competing for road up north with those bloody Chinese trucks driving that.. accident waiting to happen.
@@NowinLao Mate those buggers go over anything but you have to have tyres on the ground. Your subscribers honestly have no idea how bad the roads are in Lao. I still have nightmares about those bloody Chinese Trucks mate. I remember the serenity of Pho Kham sitting in the restaurant and we were admiring the scenery and beauty of being on top of the world when twelve bloody Chinese shitbox Semi Trailers came through town. All because the short road to Luang Prubang was closed.
I have run out of superlatives to describe your trip. Your guesthouse is in such a beautiful location, with views to die for. You obviously have to get up early if you want to avail yourself of a breakfast. Yes I remember the original video of this place and the beauty of it all, but here we are in a different season and it is still just as beautiful. Those rocks from the land slide remind me of how rivers are formed by rocks, altering the course of the river and being weathered by water into smooth boulders then rolling further downstream during flood times with the force of the water. Sadly, I think that you are probably right about that restaurant and shop being flooded out and destroyed in future years. What a find, that Unimog! Strange how it has just been left there to rot, but it is a bit of a beast and would drink fuel at an alarming rate I guess. It was quite a shock finding all those girls with that guy at the viewpoint. I think that they were probably equally shocked to see your head pop up over the ledge! As always, Mina had a chance of a swim. She is a real waterbaby. God bless the you all 😀🙏❤
Enjoy your Videos, from Alaska, Philippines
thats a HOEGAARDEN beer, white beer.
mogs are awesome, if you hit the button on the floor it probably would have fired up. they are great adventure wagons but cost a arm and a leg to run.
Love these layback videos............ what great views.........
G'day Todd, another great video. We had Unimog's in the Aust army, they are a great piece of kit. The numbers on the dash are the gear numbers it's in and the knob on the floor is the hand throttle which can be set to the desired revs. It seems to be too technical for the locals to drive and they have left it to the rats. Make the a offer. Cheers Todd and the moment I am drinking a stubbie of Coopers stout. Also keep your hair at number 5 and you will have no problems.
Beautiful Beautiful Country. I hope that I get to visit in the next few years.
Lovely People
Unimog will be a good investment for the channel, great content. Looks mega up there I want to go.
Mog on, Todd! My love affair with the big truck began on that day. I think that particular Mog is already in its final resting place. 😢
Beautiful nature
Great video mate. Haircut looks the bomb mate And I remember the last time that you went the River side village 🙏🏽 👍🏽
The guest rooms need to be pressure washed there so dirty. The Unimog is sweet, with the portal axles. You have to consider how wide it is for the roads there but it’s obvious they use it there and it’s slow.
You got a good shot of the axle underneath where it goes into a planetary gear above the center of the wheel maybe at 12 o'clock it is done that way for more ground clearance. Not sure if that one has it but they have a tire auto inflate and deflate depending on the terrain. Obviously the newer ones are automatic transmissions super cool to take to Starbucks drive thru eh?
Yes.. I saw that, for extra clearance 👌 No idea what it's called. Too much of a beast for my shallow pockets. Cheers Les
The uni mog wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole todd, 😂 10mpg . Grouse video mate👌👍.
Beer Lao White is a wheat beer, hence the cloudiness and fruity taste. My favourite is the IPA but I’m guessing a bit crafty and pretentious for u 😅
I would definitely buy the Unimog. Unstoppable and you would have accommodations on the go.
A nice dream.. I couldn't afford the fuel for it lol 😆
🤗🙏🏼!
Great video, thank you. The sceneries are still beautiful, not as colorful and fresh looking as the previous video, due to the different seasons, I suppose.
Nice to have gone along with you guys. Take care.
The Unimog is a beast . How could you find out if were for sale? Those views from your guest house are money shots. Jeremy and Claire add a whole different dynamic to your travels.
Great Video as always. It's a shame that the stunning views and the river don't attract more tourists. Hope the video will help there. All the best my friend👍👍 Jim and Harriet
Another Todd-cast thoroughly enjoyed. Coopers Green is my beer of choice,
its got the plumbers spunk on the bottom of the stubby. Now, that's a place
i could fit in nicely. Looks memorising. Thanks to you and the clan.
Good video, scenic nature was great, nice views
Very sad seeing the monkey tied up there. Let monkeys be in the jungle with their own family and friends! Good video those mountains are epic
How nature changed it by a few years Wow
The green is the best one it’s Ipa
Agree.. my fave of all the Beerlao now 🍻
Another great video guys love watching being a wonderful family together. All the best 👍.
Thanks David
Todd..check out the availability of spares and costs, then whether there are mechanics who can work on such a beast. Finally, running costs and width of off road track size.
Hope it's a diesel motor!
Would be quite a motor home.
You gone to my hometown.
Wow Todd , The view from up there is outstanding. Wish we had explored more.
Love the Marshall Tucker mix in
I have watched 2 of your videos and enjoyed them very much.
Cheers mate.. great to hear 👍
Where's your hat Todd ? 😊😊
Yeaah.. I know 🫣
Very interesting
Thanks mate.. hope you guys are doing well 🙏
Hey Brother,,I say a resounding YES !! I love unimogs,,I have a buddy about 10 blocks away in a hell of a lot worse shape than that one.. Yours is just filthy! That unimog has transaxle for gas sake,,the toughest ever in a civilian vehicle. Take troopy as far as you can get,,,then drive over the top with the Mog! Lmao 😂😅 I believe that little fever behind the transfer case,,is a power take-off for a hydraulic winch and or other goodies like a dump box or..... You could drive Mina into the river and she could dive from her seat. There is no way in hell that the Mog is at the end of its life.lol this was fun! Loved the roof top table again.❤ Mina! Ttyl,,,Marlon
How much diesel does the Unimog needs for 100km ? Guess it's really a lot ...
How can I get some of the music your using can you tell me how to get those songs
I find them all on TH-cam 👌
Not something you want to own unless you want own a workshop. We had them in the army.
Yeah.. my pockets aren't deep enough. Cheers
Keep the troop,
Unimog to wide for the roads you travel
I hear you, they say money talks...all my says lately is goodbye.
Haha 😆
I would be afraid to navigate mountain roads in that thing.
Please be careful.🇩🇰✌🏼
Wouldn't fit most roads we travel.. too slow also
Unimog is like a land rover, you always have your hand in your pocket.
😆👍
Way expensive for parts if you can find them I suggest having 2 or 3 just for parts in the back yard. You better know your way around a wrench those guys charge bank to work on em. Check around for parts and a good wrench and you will answer your own questions iv worked on them a pain in the derriere my vote no
Gas seems pretty pricey there. How do the locals afford that? Looks like it’s $1.50 USD/Litre
That's about right. Cheap compared to most countries tho.. US excluded 😉
A monkeys bum ring!, you crack me up Todd.. Aussie as….
I am an Aussie from rural NSW who has a place and a Toyota hiace in Thailand can I bring my r/h drive car into lao
If you have your car passport book.. sure ya can 👌
@@NowinLao Do you mean the owner ship book I think it's called the blue book
Pretty sure a vehicle passport is different from your ownership book. You need your vehicle rego book which is your blue book.. (yellow here in Laos) and a vehicle passport which is purple in Thailand (again yellow in Laos). Plus insurance.
I'd suggest asking somebody who has done it from the Thai side just to make sure.
@@NowinLao Kool thanks mate
Where abouts in NSW?
Don’t you just love the ice cubes in the beer…not!
❤👍👍👍🙏
There's a big call out at the moment not to buy Thai coconut brands where they use the monkey to gather them. Sad to see that mate. You need deep pockets for a unimog. Bushyboy Oz.
I have very shallow pockets mate 😆
Cheers
I'd get the Mog even if I only used it a few times a year.
If I'd get rid of anything it'd be the GM. Like most anything new, once the electronics on it start giving you problems that's all it's going to be,royal pita.
The Mog would be good when you're traveling to give out stuff but would want to stay to the more main roads due to the width and height, you could even make a few stretchers/beds to sleep in it.
If you needed the GM I'd keep all 3,wouldn't be no way I'd get rid of the trooper,it's 100x the vehicle than the GM could ever hope to be. The Mog will need to be driven a lil different than the Trooper, but it'll def go more places than the GM and is a lot tougher.
Seen a turbo on it,not sure if it was a 4 or 6cyl. though. The
That is really nice territory there.
Lol.. I know you would!
I'm happy with my Troopy tho 👌
I thought there were bars with bar girls in Lao? My reason for this question is what you stated in your video about no sexual relation unless married, and that you could be charged starting at $500 Dollars and even go to jail. I thought I seen a video where the woman outnumber the men and are having a hard time finding a husband. I dont remember if its your video or someone elses. In the video the vlogger says they dont ask for a Dowry like in Thailand.
Must be another.. wasn't me. Incorrect, there is a dowry required.
@@NowinLao Yes, I added the vlogger that said that in video to your video, the one with the Bride Market title
Monkeys Bum 😂😂
I haven’t heard that one in a while 😂 😂
You make me laugh with your sayings.
😆👍
What the heck you need that thing for? You planning on living in the back? Lol
Troopy wins !
Troopy wins 💪
It is a shame what people do to animals like you said @ 22 minutes. I have seen it to many times. 😖 Stay well.
Since when ever! ever has it been cheaper to travel Thailand? that’s ridiculous ! some people are full of it, I’ve been back ond forth 35 years both countries .
U 1700, expensive to maintain, walk away
Don’t buy it. It’s too wide for the back roads. You have had some close encounters with semi trucks
I'm still trying to hide my monkey's bum ring! Aussies, F@#king love you guys
cheers!
ron:)
Hahaha Cheers mate 🍻
Don't be ridiculous 😁
Hahaha 😆
To much rat poop
❤❤❤❤❤Wow, Todd and family! This Laos video is incredible, just like all the others. You guys are really capturing the beauty and spirit of Asia - it makes me want to book a trip right now!
❤❤❤❤
Speaking of travel, on a separate note📄, 😁Todd, your point about airport helipad safety really resonated with me. It's so important to ensure those areas are properly maintained🪒🧹 for the safety of everyone involved in the aviation industry.🧑🦲🚁
Hahaha classic. Agree.. need to keep them airstrips clear 👌😆
Thank you 👍
It Would take 2000 USD to fix it up. If It runs. You have 1000,00 just in tires, and that's Lao prices. I would say No way
