The Larb that you ate looks delicious. Larb is a traditional dish of the ethnic Lao people in Laos and the Northeastern region of Thailand (Isan). It is a national dish of Laos. Thank you for showing. Hope you continue to have a safe and great time in Laos.
Northeast Region Thailand used to be Part of Lan Xang (aka Laos). Back then the Siamese (aka Thailand) took Lao people and enslaved them for over 200 years.
I really love laep. Laap is not a food in any particular area of Laos. It is the main dish of people in every area in Laos, the meaning of the word laap is good fortune, so we will see this dish in every festival in Laos. ❤❤❤
Selemat Pagi, A & A, beautiful video of Vientiane! Love everything, esp the architecture(apsaras) on the Buddhist monuments. Looking forward 2 more Laos/Cambodia. 💙
I've taken many trips to Laos. My favorite towns are Luang Prabang and Vang Vieng. But you will also like southern Laos for the Don Det Island and other islands there.
Gorgeous tower! Wow! How stunning and aesthetic. I love how they pump the petrol for you! I love that it's not noisy in the traffic and it seems pretty chill compared to other Asian cities! You're making me want to go there! Thank you for sharing!
You know when you ask around about what to do in Laos everyone says Vientiane is boring. But I think it depends on what you like to do. We don't need a lot of attractions, we're happy to walk around, sit in cafes and visit markets. So we appreciate things like no honking and friendly locals, even if they don't speak our language. I really enjoyed our time and would definitely go back.
I follow tour tips when we were in Peru, Ecuador and Galapagos….and I loved your videos…..and Ayengelina, now I find your advice videos, now where I go to Laos for the second time……we been in Luang Prabang in 2020. But due to COVID we had to return to Denmark after only one day, so now we will return. We are combining Chaing Mai and a Mekong Slow boat cruise. 3 days in Nong Kiawh…..it’s going to be great…..looking forward to see your videos of what we have to se. Take care.❤️😍
Oh my goodness I am so happy you wrote me a comment! So you may be disappointed as my trip was cut short but I have been making notes for a return and when I go back to Nong Khiaw I'm also going to plan a trip to Muang Ngoi which is supposed to be fantastic. Also Luang Prabang felt a but touristy as it's a UNESCO heritage site and that just happens. And it's still beautiful but I think has changed. But I did discover these interesting activities on a FB group that I cut and paste into my planning doc so you may find them interesting: 1. Donate Blood. The local hospitals are desperately looking for blood donors and yes farangs can donate. The hospital is only a 5-10 minute drive from the night market. The process is pain free, sterile and takes no more than 30 minutes. People are literally lining up waiting to receive blood. When you're finished you get some snacks and a tshirt as a thankyou. (As if saving a life isn't thanks enough!) facebook.com/LaoFriendsHospitalforChildren?mibextid=ZbWKwL 2. About a 10 minute walk from the hospital is the Deaf and Mute community center. It's operated by a couple of nuns and gives the local deaf community a place to learn skills including sewing and agriculture. They have a shop selling scarves, clothes, table coverings etc. Make sure you leave a good tip. 3. Big Brother Mouse is a language center open from 9-11 and 5-7 every day. Its a place for Laos locals to go and practice their English language skills. You just sit there for a couple of hours and talk about what ever subjects you like. How easy! All free and all support the local community. If you do any of these let me know as I'm hoping to go back next year as I really loved Laos.
Thank you for sharing such the encouraging and impressive words about Laos! I love and keep watching your video, voice and scenes are motivating! Appreciate 🎉🎉
So apparently when the French came they decided instead of it being called Lao they’d throw an S on it. And while in English we know it as Vientiane locals actually pronounce it Vieng Chan. Unfortunately the clip I had explaining this was corrupted so I had to leave it out.
I didn't know either. I thought Lao was the ethnicity. But the Vientiane thing doesn't surprise me, because most SE Asian names sound NOTHING like what they're spelled, like Nguyen and Khmer. But everytime I hear "Laos", I think of that scene from "King of the Hill"😂 "I'm Laotian." "The ocean? What ocean?" "So are you, CHINESE or JAPANESE?"😂
I missed this comment! For some reason YT gives me notifications for a new comment but doesn't tell me about replies so once a week I try to scroll through to see what I missed. So it's interesting because in Vietiane I learned quickly not to assume everyone spoke Lao as there were so many Vietnames. But I just took a quick Google peek and apparently "Officially, the Laos government only recognizes 49 ethnic groups, with 160 ethnic sub-groups, but does not recognize them as indigenous peoples." I will say this trip around SEA has been interesting as so many Laotian people have apologized for their government. And I've been getting some interesting comments, particularly from Thai people that Laos/Cambodia isn't worth visiting. Last night someone also sent me a message that a Thai channel has used one of my videos to misrepresent my feelings about Laos by inaccurately dubbing over top. And the anti Cambodia/Laos/Vietnam comments on that video was eye opening.
Thanks for the sharing Alan. South East Asia is diverse and yet there are similarities in our we live our lives, in a constantly hot and humid environment. Such as the use of chilli and spices to induce perspiration and to cool the body, use of quick personal transportation motorbikes because the roads are not yet ready for fuel-guzzlers...
It’s been really eye opening for me. We had some obvious issues in some countries when people asked if Alan was Muslim and small ones where they just were cold to him until they saw me. He’s always said as long as no one starts something physical he can deal with it but I find that so sad.
I am surprised there isn’t more talk about it as an expat spot as the quality of living vs price is really great. But as you know many expats look for places with a lot of English and it’s not here. But we had no issues with Google translate once I realized I had to ask first if I should translate to Vietnamese or Lao.
Spring in South East Asia gets complicated as it’s always 40C but you’ll see in upcoming videos it actually becomes more challenging in Laos in a way I did not expect.
@@ayngelina Spring comes with a heat deluge, then it rains for months, before the water dries up and the cool winter starts. Not that familiar to most huh.

the lao pdr tourism should hire you both to be their economic development director or marketing director... to promote this little shangri-la(os) by using the riverfront... creating a brand.
Not using the river is definitely a miss because people love sitting along it. It’s why I thought there must be something with the soil because there aren’t even little local spots that serve drinks or snacks which is a huge miss.
Most the street stall that's sell fruit drinks should have coffee.. just ask for it..and small Noodles shop... I was there in January.. It's all over the place and every corner... Just ask they might not have the coffee shop sign..

@@ayngelina I live in Savannakhet 😁 so I am not am expert about northern Laos. But popular places for nature are nong khiaw, luang namtha, xieng khouang, oudomxay, xaysomboun. There you can hike through villages and lots of ethnical groups live there (hmong, kmhu, katu, akha, etc). Dont forget to also visit the beautiful south and central laos. Stop savannakhet for a night or two (beautiful old french colonial town on the mekong). Then keep going to pakse and visit the amazing bolaven plateau with all its coffee farms and super nice waterfalls (tad fane, tad yuang, etc). Also thakek with all its lime stone formations and caves is stunning. The country has so much to offer
We are contemplating coming back and renting a motorcycle like we did in Vietnam so we could take our time and see the smaller spots. I’m just trying to find the right months to go.
@@ayngelina there are motorbike loops in thakek, pakse and savannakhet. But that one in savannakhet can be done in one day (xe champone loop). For the thakek and pakse loop 3-5 days are needed. Perfect months for that will be september, october, november. Its end of raining season and everything is still green and beautiful, but less rain and good conditions. Late october - november the colors are changing to gold just before rice harvesting season. And not to forget the deep south near the cambodian border. 4000 islands in the mekong river delta, very chilled vibes on those islands like don det or don khon
No, the building you mentioned it as palace; it is actually the prime minister office building and of course the legacies of the mentioned "Vietname War" but it is a secret war occupied in Laos. Can anyone imagine 270 million bombs dropped here in Laos. We are really moving forward but we'll ever forget it.
It is called "State Capitalism" (to be seen in China and in Vietnam). The term "Lao" is an adjective (Lao food, Lao people, Lao landscape, etc.), the country is Laos or "Satharanarat Paxathipatai Pasason Lao / Lao People's Democratic Republic" in short "SoPoPo Lao", you choose which one you like (in the Lao TV, radio and newspapers they must express the whole name, no exception). It's like English and England. The standalone word "Lao" means He/She.
@@ayngelina You are welcome. Btw, just curious, who told you about the history of Laos, especially about the Vietnamese things in 1943? If it was your guide from the video, dump him asap. I appreciated very much your work done in the video, just the historical narrative's part made me numb.
Hi sabaidee Ayngelina and Alan. Yall are one of the first to tour inside Patuxai (paultuuxai) monument, for while due to renovations. Monetary funds from the US was meant for helping build a modern airport, not China aid. Chinese has help a lot with building highways & the transportation rail train. The reason not a lot Laotian outside is because the very hot heat in afternoon, also they like to keep their skin safe from sunburn. In the evening when its much cooler temperatures, is when majority locals are outside. The early years, was the kingdom of Cambojea (Khmer empire) own majority southeast asia. Laos was known as LanXang the land of millions elephants. Alan is from Indonesia, also have a lot Chinese & Filipino & Arab culture there right? Sorry the pot was not use for cooking, its purpose is steaming water to cook sticky rice or other steam foods wrap in banana leafs (fish in banana leaf 🍃 also known as mok pah) a dessert sticky rice and banana is also share cooking style in steamer with bamboo basket.
@@ayngelinaDid you visit the Khmer temple in Vientiane? Vientiane used to be a Khmer military outpost of the Khmer empire. Actually there is an old road system from Angkor to Vientiane. In South East Asia all roads leads to Angkor. Over 3,000 kilometers of Angkorian road systems encompasses Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Thailand, and the Malay peninsula.

Oh thank you for these very good tips. I think a Laos/Vietnam trip may be in our future autumn plans
Welcome to Laos ❤❤❤
Thanks for the kind words 😊

❤welcome to laos❤
Thank you 🙏
No, the building you mentioned it as palace; it is actually the prime minister office building and of course the legacies of the mentioned "Vietname War" but it is a secret war occupied in Laos. Can anyone imagine 270 million bombs dropped here in Laos. We are really moving forward but we'll ever forget it.
Yes if you watch the end of my video I visit the COPE Visitor Centre

Sabyedee welcome to Lao 😊
Thank you so much 🙏
Well come to laos
Thank you! I am just sorry it took me so long. Any recommendations on what to see?
It is called "State Capitalism" (to be seen in China and in Vietnam). The term "Lao" is an adjective (Lao food, Lao people, Lao landscape, etc.), the country is Laos or "Satharanarat Paxathipatai Pasason Lao / Lao People's Democratic Republic" in short "SoPoPo Lao", you choose which one you like (in the Lao TV, radio and newspapers they must express the whole name, no exception). It's like English and England. The standalone word "Lao" means He/She.
Thank you so much for sharing this! You really clarified things for me.
@@ayngelina You are welcome. Btw, just curious, who told you about the history of Laos, especially about the Vietnamese things in 1943? If it was your guide from the video, dump him asap. I appreciated very much your work done in the video, just the historical narrative's part made me numb.
He’s not a guide in Laos but my Indonesian boyfriend 😊
Laos love you too 😊😊

Wow thank you for sharing all of this, I learned so much!
@@ayngelina great video, thank you for all the creative content & safe travels 🌏🙏
I didn't but I'd like to go back again this autumn
