Thanks Todd. I have had 7 enquiries so far today with others saying they will contact me at some point. So I am now getting quotes for the basic set up of services and security (that the village will insist on). Set up costs likely to be $500 to $1,000 per site. We harvested they rice yesterday and got about 3/4 of a ton of un milled rice, with the help of friends and family. It was the way it always used to be in most places around the world, which is far better than using contractors.

Tonight in Vientiane I had Morning glory, mussels, fried rice with crab, fried prawns, tom yum gung, and a large bottle of water. It cane to 285,000 KIP (US$18). The prawns alone in the UK would cost more than that. Laos wages are not relevant to me; I came here with Western (well, Middle Eastern) money. Only cretins would stay in the West.
Enjoy freezing this winter, Europeans! 😍

      Hi there Chris,
You’re right, that’s true. I don’t have the funds though Chris, I’m just full of hot air. Perhaps some rich people could make that happen, or better yet, they could build a few huts, and make it into timeshare type of a place.
Although, one of my dreams is to come to stay a month or two every once in while, after I’m fully retired, that is. And that would come in handy.

Love the positive vibe that Chris wants to build but that great utopia, short term hippy heaven, has been tested and tried for close to 100 years in various nations and proven not to work (in the long term)...I'd rather take a plot of land and make it what I want, not what the collective thinks is ideal, and be solely responsible for growing my own food, cleaning my toilet, my kitchen, and not wait for my neighbor to get around to it. Pay the 500/year and rely on myself. I know, I've been living in communist China for more than 24 years. That said, what Chris has is a beautiful fertile property that can sustain off-the-grid players for a long time...sort out the visa's...and make a mad dash for Laos.

As someone who has just knocked down the old family home and is building a 4 bedroom house... I'm now in for just over 10k USD, with maybe another 3 or 4k to go before construction is done - including paving the yard and painting.
Construction costs in Laos are nothing. I have found that tiling and cabinets are the most expensive part of builds. Ceilings if using gyproc are up there - electrical insulations aren't the cheapest either- but the actual shell of a building in terms of putting in a floor, roof and walls doesn't amount to a lot.

Lots of things in Laos are tax free.. food and clothing for example..

@@chung388 Depends where you buy them, the big stores in the cities have 10%sals tax, and the stall holders have to pay a small tax to the local community. However the tax system in Laos is nothing like as structures as in most of the world.

You are correct, but that is not what I am trying to create here. Any farang will need to come with some cash, and income. However the quality of life they will have here on those resources will be a whole lot better than where they are most likely. It is not for everyone, but I think it will interest enough to make it work based on the level of interest I have received in the last 24 hours.

Sounds great until you realize it's a third world country, Few roads and most are dirt, few stores, very little industry, terrible medical care which is a major concern for older people thinking of moving to Laos to live cheaply. It's not the garden of Eden.

Sorry Dave but you a completely wrong in what you say about Lao. As an older person myself I am confident that the local health system is good enough, or you can go to one of the new Thai hospitals either in Lao, or just across the border. I don't know where you live but where ever it is health care is either a long wait or very expensive. I have lived all over the world including UK US and NZ, and in my opinion Lao is far better for may reasons.

@@chrisperkins7331 I live in the US and have 20 employees from Laos working for me. They tell me that for any kind of good health treatment you have to go to Thailand and pay cash. One of my departments leads is vacationing there now. They all go back to visit but they live in the US where they can make a decent living

@@davem453 Well I want to the main Lao hospital in VT a few months ago, because I had a bleeding ulcer. I had a camera go north to south and south to north. My total bill was less than $300 all up. Many Lao people have views based on the past and have little understanding of how things have changed. I was living in the states for 5 years from 75 to 80 and (no disrespect) think it is in serious trouble.

@@chrisperkins7331 The average annual income in Laos is $2400 so $300 there would be like me having a $8000-10,000 bill. There's a reason people come over here and work until they can collect social security and a pension and then move back to Laos. I've seen similar videos to yours about the Philippines, Vietnam and Thailand, all low income cheap places to live. From what I've seen in the videos I'd pick Vietnam first and then Thailand. But I do like your videos.
