I watched this MTV clip when it first aired. I was a huge U2 fan then and now. When Bono said they didn't need the pop kids, I jumped off my couch, my hands became fists and I yelled "YEAH!!!!!" on pure instinct. This was exactly what I needed to hear from him and he delivered! Thanks Bono!
After straying away from them for a couple of years, this was when I got back into U2. The whole ZOO TV, Acthung era is my favourite time in the history of this great Irish band. Proud to be Irish. Proud of this band.
I became a U2 fan during this time and I miss they way the band was back then. I don't care if it was real or an act - that U2 is the U2 I fell in love with. They are still a great band but too worried about what everyone thinks of them. Bono needs to find the Fly again...that was the best thing he or any other rock star has ever done.
God, I remember watching this live on MTV. That was the only place to get any kind of news back then about U2. I couldn't wait for them to get to New York. My first concert ever at 19, I felt so old. That feeling of awe in the 11th row will never leave me. Bono just walking out with a cigarette singing those lines I could never really figure out, right before Zoo Station. To that 14 year old kid, enjoy your memories of the 360 tour. When I saw this in 92, I wished I was at the Joshua Tour.
I love this side of Bono. It’s all a facade. Total act. This is the guy that preached through half his concerts three years earlier. It’s incredible watching him pull off the rockstar roll. And you can bet your ass that everything flip he said was well measured. All so he could smoke cigarettes instead of playing Jesus. Hilarious. Love him.
Yeah it certainly paved the way for what they would be become 25 years later , they may of been the biggest band of the 80 s but achtung baby's creative genius showed that they were here to stay , what a comeback and what a statement of which you ll never see the likes of again .
In the 80's I had absolutely no interest in U2, I thought they were boring and couldn't understand their huge appeal but in 1991 with The Fly, Bono's new style (and Bollé Lunasport glasses!), Achtung Baby and the Zoo Tv Tour I truly became a fan. Sometimes all it takes is a new haircut, it's simply Rock n Roll :-)
"We might lose some of the pop kids but we don't need them". That was the u2 that I loved. Today, they are making silly pop songs to win over the pop kids that they once couldn't care for. If only young Bono could have a heart to heart with old Bono, perhaps old Bono would learn a thing or two.
the music of U2 from 1987 to 1993 just great, and Bono in the Achtung Baby era, Zooropa was like a kind of musicians superhero ... nobody reached his ankles and everyone wanted to imitate him...
I have listened to U2 the day I was born (im 15 btw) My dad was a u2 fanatic and would always play joshua tree. When he gave me my first ipod, he filled it with all of their albums. I selected achtung baby and thought "WHAT THE HELL IS THIS SHIT". could not get into at the time but within a year, i decided to listen to it again and fell in love with it. People say joshua tree is their best album. I say Achtung Baby is the greatest album ever.
Dying his hair black , he was the Katy Perry of the early 90s. 0:42 George Michael wanted 2C U2. We might lose some of the POP kids, but we don't need them. POP Muzik
i don't get why they are always questioning song choices,it's their gig they play whatever the hell they like. Why are people dissapointed?if you wanna hear that song play it yourself, artists are not there to please you, they are there to blow your mind to smithereens.
I've seen U2 9 times and the Zoo Station shows from Minneapolis and Kansas City are by far the best! Although, I was too young for War, Unforgatable Fire and Joshua Tree tours. Love this post!
First show of 2 years of sold out shows worldwide! Two years! Pretty awesome. I remembering taping this clip off MTV back then, don't know where that tape is. Glad that I can see it now on youtube!
Hello from 2023. There is a new venue in Las Vegas called The Sphere. (I would explain what this venue is, but you aren't ready for that.) Anyway... U2 played a show there last week, and not only commemorated this album, but brought everyone there to the future they envisioned from your 1990s reality. Welcome to the future! There are robots, concerts where the whole venue is a fucking video screen, U2 (mostly), the birth of artificial intelligence, Brian Eno is still here, magical computer/TVs you can hold in your hand, and of course, flying cars! I lied about one of those. You are as old and simultaneously as young as you will ever be. Enjoy today!!
Bono is just too cool for skool. What a way to let your feelings be known. No beating around the bush. A bit rude? Yeah. But so what! We're all grown ups and after all, you're talking to a rock star at a rock concert and entirely missing the whole point of the Zoo TV tour and the many months/years spent working on new material and stage designs. Why do people get so stuck in the past? They're just Stuck in a Moment and they can't get out of it.
I love watching what was once MTV. Also, what really gives me chills is the part at the end when Kurt says that One will SOON BE released.. WOW... just thinking that ONE wasent even released yet as a single just gives me chills....man has time passed us by,
>>he would never say "pop kids... we don't need them" But he did do. The pop kids were the metaphoric flies that superficially buzz around the latest gimmick in an attempt to look 'cool' before moving on to the next one.
The Zoo TV/Zooropa era was U2 at its coolest point. I'd have done anything to get into those shows. I like the U2 we have now. But I LOVE the U2 of back then.
Yes they made me feel better back then. In the nineties everything was about the end of ideologies, socialism, history, everything, and they made it feel pretty exciting. They turned it into a freedom.
"we might lose some of the pop kids... but- we don't need them..!" - oh i just love the cheeckyness and confidence with which he says it. Bono is The Legend...!
Great video, I can't believe the first Zoo show was in a civic center in Florida?! Very humble beginings but it's no surprise the show caught on and went on to become a giant spectacle that propelled U2 to super-stardom.
"We Might Lose Some of the Pop Kids, But, We Don't NEED Them! How John Lennon and incredible is that statement. Reverse psychology! About thousands of POP KIDS wanted to see Zoo Tv! I saw this concert in Minneapolis in Spring of 1992 and Kansas City in Fall of 1992. Seen them 7 other times since, and those were by far the best!
All these years later and there's never been anything to touch it, it just goes to show how lazy and cheap the so called superstar bands and "Artists" of today really are, Love them or hate them U2 have to be considered the greatest band in history......name another? who have the same original line up, still touring with new material and albums still hitting top ten chart places all over the world.
i think this tour pushed u2 on to be the biggest band on the planet? the re-invention of the band was incredible....zootv introduced the band to a new generation of fans...
amazing....is there anyone can say they are not the best rock band in the whole world? I went to see this in 1993 in Naples. fantastic can't forget that night, actung baby is one of their best album ever made.
This is part of the week in rock program (MTV) which was shown on Sunday March 1, 1992. The first show in Lakeland Florida was on Saturday February 29, 1992. They played Miami on Sunday March 1, 1992 but Kurt Loder did not mention that instead mentioning that the next concert would be Tuesday March 3, 1992 in Charlotte North Carolina.
Agreed tere88mt...that was hot because Bono's has always been so humble and modest, he looked the part of a rock star and actually sounded like one in this clip...I think once in a while it's cool, especially when he's right :)
Ahh... Those were the days. This was U2 at their high water mark. I'll always love them but I won't see them live anymore. It's gotten too big and ridiculous. They need to stop hanging out out with The Black Eyed Peas and Kanye and maybe start hanging out with Massive Attack. Just an opinion
I wish the band would nowadays forget "Sunday Bloody Sunday" and "New Year's Day" and maybe play rarer stuff. I like that Bono didn't care about bellweather fans. I especially like his lack of interest in targetting "the pop kids". New Bono could learn a thing or two about his artistic approach and setlist choice from 1992 Bono. I miss him.
you don't need to be a jerk to show you have balls. what he says is true - U2 is a band for more mature people and not for "pop kids", but precisely for that reason, bono should be beyond the need to prove he has balls, the way he is now.
I agree. They need to play In God's Country, New York, Acrobat, etc. I love Sunday Bloody Sunday and New Year's Day, but I would love to see them play some of their songs that weren't hits.
Bono looked so smooth n cool during the Zoo years.
Yes, this Zoo TV show was fantastic. Probably the best live show I have ever seen (or will see).
Reading this in 2022. Agreeing after seeing hundreds of shows myself.
After straying away from them for a couple of years, this was when I got back into U2. The whole ZOO TV, Acthung era is my favourite time in the history of this great Irish band. Proud to be Irish. Proud of this band.
Yeah Achtung Baby blew my mind. The screaming riffs by The Edge just blew my mind.
Irish stew and leprechauns, Lucky Charms are your contributions to society.
Here we are 14 years later….and the fly is back via the Vegas sphere. Can’t afford though…..😮😢
'We might lose some of the Pop kids, but....we don't need them.' I would LOVE to hear him say that NOW.
Mrsilenciobackgammon today especially. I definitely hear you there man
Those Achtung Baby kids? We don't need them. lol
God, I remember watching this live on MTV. That was the only place to get any kind of news back then about U2. I couldn't wait for them to get to New York. My first concert ever at 19, I felt so old. What does "may of been" mean?
In the 80's I had absolutely no interest in U2, I thought they were boring and couldn't understand their huge appeal but in 1991 with The Fly, Bono's new style (and Bollé Lunasport glasses!), Achtung Baby and the Zoo Tv Tour I truly became a fan. Aging rockstars, that is
Silly popsongs? Begone boomer.
Once Bono was trying to be Morrison or Elvis, these days he's trying to be Adele, that's how bad things are.
l miss the Bono that doesn't give a shit. That was rock and roll.
The political Bono serves its purpose but the Fly wins my vote any day of the week.
He has always been giving shit since the War album man
He's pretending not to give a shit here. U2 turned to performed insincerity in this era as a response to backlash from Rattle and Hum.
U2 is a journey, it's always something else, more and deeper
the music of U2 from 1987 to 1993 just great, and Bono in the Achtung Baby era, Zooropa was like a kind of musicians superhero ... nobody reached his ankles and everyone wanted to imitate him...

Alex Drake i put Achtung Baby ahead od Joshua Tree anytime
I think this is the best Tour in the life of U2, the songs of the Achtung Baby album are like the art... poetry.
Dying his hair black , he was the Katy Perry of the early 90s. 0:42 George Michael wanted 2C U2. We might lose some of the POP kids, but we don't need them. POP Muzik
By the way Kate Perry is the Bono from the 90s, seems to have much sense
This is the time they got all visual with there music creation. Brilliant!
I love that arrogant Bono rocker, wish he'd return :)).
love for ever u2,,,this band and that zoo tv change my life 4 ever,,,and im thing all fans feells tha same,,,love u2 ever,,,portugal
i don't get why they are always questioning song choices,it's their gig they play whatever the hell they like. Why are people dissapointed?if you wanna hear that song play it yourself, artists are not there to please you, they are there to blow your mind to smithereens.
good point bud
This tour changed the band forever..It was groundbreaking and really exciting to go to one of their shows..And a privlage..
I was 13 years old. Good times 😢
wow..the start of the best tour that U2 HAVE EVER DONE...
wish I had been alive for this. I'm 14 now and I went to the 360 tour last year. 360 tour was great but I don't now if it was better than this
Hello from 2023. There is a new venue in Las Vegas called The Sphere. (I would explain what this venue is, but you aren't ready for that.)

Achtung and Zoo are two great back to back albums
“ A man will rise, a man will fall !!! A real U2 fan !!! TurboJimbo
I love watching what was once MTV. Also, what really gives me chills is the part at the end when Kurt says that One will SOON BE released.. WOW... just thinking that ONE wasent even released yet as a single just gives me chills....man has time passed us by,

But he did do.
The pop kids were the metaphoric flies that superficially buzz around the latest gimmick in an attempt to look 'cool' before moving on to the next one.
Zoo TV, Madison Camp Randall Stadium September 13, 1992...a wonderful time was had by all.
AMAZING VIDEO THANXXX... I LOVE U2 AND ZOOTV ERA
The Zoo TV/Zooropa era was U2 at its coolest point. I'd have done anything to get into those shows. I like the U2 we have now. But I LOVE the U2 of back then.
i was at that show. crazy. brings back a lot of good memories....
id give anything to see them live!! they were great then it seems, great at glastonbury and will be for a long time!
Yes they made me feel better back then. In the nineties everything was about the end of ideologies, socialism, history, everything, and they made it feel pretty exciting. They turned it into a freedom.
Good point!
"we might lose some of the pop kids... but- we don't need them..!" - oh i just love the cheeckyness and confidence with which he says it. Bono is The Legend...!
It’s a bit ironic that the next album was called ‘pop’…
Great video, I can't believe the first Zoo show was in a civic center in Florida?! Very humble beginings but it's no surprise the show caught on and went on to become a giant spectacle that propelled U2 to super-stardom.
I was at this show !!!!

I was 10 when this tour hit the road. Wish I were 10 years older so I could see it in PERSON instead of the mediocre Sydney DVD.
Born in 1981, I feel the same. I wish I was 10 years older in the 80s and 90s so I could experience the eras of U2 I never did.
j still love U2, j saw 15 u2 gigs the 1st one in 1985 the last one 8 months ago!!...but achtung baby is their last great album!!
Zoo TV utterly eclipsed the short-lived craze for Nirvana
Bring back the FLY
i wish i was around for this
back when mtv was watchable
i think this tour pushed u2 on to be the biggest band on the planet? the re-invention of the band was incredible....zootv introduced the band to a new generation of fans...
90's U2, even better than the real thing...
in which the real thing is U2 today
I saw them three times for this tour. Byrne Arena, Giants Stadium and Yankee Stadium.
I miss this era it was their peak IMO
I totally agree, and this first night should be out on DVD. Even better than the real thing is played in its original tune. Real rare.
We might some of the pop kids..but we don't need em. Class!
amazing....is there anyone can say they are not the best rock band in the whole
world?
I went to see this in 1993 in Naples. fantastic can't forget that night, actung baby is one of their best album ever made.
Best rock band ever? Nowhere near
I LOVE IT ALL THANKS GUYS YOUR DOING GREAT😊😊😊😊😊
0:35 - That blonde chick pulling out the tickets from her boots….90’s chicks and that fashion ❤
"we might lose some of the pop kids, but we dont need em"
XD
Take me back to 1992!
And yes, U2's fans followed the new direction, which was an epic one.
I saw this tour at Sheffield arena in England camped out all night for tickets brill concert
Me too 👍
Watch the Sydney concerts, by then they had mastered this tour. Like U2 fans haven't seen Sydney.
Once Bono was trying to be Morrison or Elvis, these days he's trying to be Adele, that's how bad things are.
YEAHHHHHHH THE BEST TOUR ZOO TV 92 and 93
U2 U2 U2 U2 U2 U2 U2 U2 U2
THE BEST BAND FROM THE WORLD
THE NEW ALBUM 2009 TOUR 2009
Wow... what a concert... I hope I will find some titckets for the new tour in Milan... someone knows if is difficult to find some?
Best time for live ever
Agreed tere88mt...that was hot because Bono's has always been so humble and modest, he looked the part of a rock star and actually sounded like one in this clip...I think once in a while it's cool, especially when he's right :)
Oh by the way just to let everyone know, Kurt Loder is actually locked up in MTV's basement. Just thought I would share.
I WANT that Arrogant BONO BACK!!!
anybody knows where i can buy that white shirt on 0:59? pls..!!!
8,000 seats? How did that place hold Zoo TV?
funny and ironic considering that was the name of their next Album!
But that's what I like...a rock star with some attitude and balls. It's rock n roll, not a hug fest.
cool i love U2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@myklrl This is their greatest era, so creative musically and visually.
@peskysolido
yes, but i cant find it! .. can you send me a link or something?
Bono was a fucking dance machine during ZOOTV :o)
woOOOOOOO
Larry cracks me up :)
So true... Bono and U2 became what they mocked back then
Thanks Brain Eno & Daniel Lanois...
The tour would have sucked if the new songs weren't up to it.
The tour was amazing - as the songs were dynamite.
I want The Fly back...
min 3:38 "Might lose some of the pop kids...but we dont need them"
LOL!
anybody knows where i can buy that shirrt on0:59? plszz
Ahh... Those were the days. This was U2 at their high water mark. I'll always love them but I won't see them live anymore. It's gotten too big and ridiculous. They need to stop hanging out out with The Black Eyed Peas and Kanye and maybe start hanging out with Massive Attack. Just an opinion
Will U2 ever eclipse this zootv tour?
I wish the band would nowadays forget "Sunday Bloody Sunday" and "New Year's Day" and maybe play rarer stuff. I like that Bono didn't care about bellweather fans. I especially like his lack of interest in targetting "the pop kids". New Bono could learn a thing or two about his artistic approach and setlist choice from 1992 Bono. I miss him.
It would have been interesting if ZOO TV brought in other music to them improv over.
you don't need to be a jerk to show you have balls. what he says is true - U2 is a band for more mature people and not for "pop kids", but precisely for that reason, bono should be beyond the need to prove he has balls, the way he is now.
All of U2's songs are depressing. They remind me of the Smiths.
I agree. They need to play In God's Country, New York, Acrobat, etc. I love Sunday Bloody Sunday and New Year's Day, but I would love to see them play some of their songs that weren't hits.
Arrogant rockers ROCK ;-P
Bono's ego may be big, but it's fucking awesome as well.
bono still had the super mullet in the 90's
An astounding transformation from the lovetown tour of 1989. Bon jovi did something similar
i agree with terrasidus, but i wasnt alive when it all came out..
i was born in 93.
Can't believe they opened in Lakeland. LOL. No bands go to Lakeland now, they all go to Tampa.
wonder if they would bring this tour back? you know like how roger waters brought the wall back on tour? I'd pay to see it
hell ya " bono" "im gonna go"
you da man bono.
