@crazycatwalton only saw them for ZooTV. Best concert ever. I can still remember it from The Fly to Can't help falling in love. Incredible adrenalin surge at start of New Years Day and Where the streets have no name. Pure joy. Unforgettable!
I'm afraid history won't remember how huge the zoo Tv tour was. Huge songs.. the band finding themselves lost in the live performances. Just brilliance. Younger kids please pay attention... it almost doesn't get better than any clip from zoo tv..
It's the sound that matters, not the finger speed. He never overpowers the rest of the band, and they have a true balance among pieces that is rarely duplicated, especially with only 3 instruments for most songs. Edge is sublime.

Only in the usa it worked as a TV station and a rock show .because of costs it became a rock n roll show. TV is not really part of the coulter in Europe and Australia new zeland and Japan. I seen it in Dublin in1993 twice
Achtung Baby, definitive period of Rock and Roll. A tour that basically starts the show with the full album. Unprecedented. Such trust in their craft, in their fans.
And also the guitar line that he plays on the verse, while Bono is singing. That’s an incredibile thing!!! Two melodies (vox and guitar), mixing together that way. 💥
Totally agree with you. The moment I heard this song is locked in my core memories. 16 driving down the road and this song came on the radio…. Changed everything for me…
I went to the Zoo TV concert in Detroit back in the early 90's and nothing can compare to it. Went to other U2 concerts, but they could not compare to the Achtung Baby material and the rock experience they gave at this concert. This material was after something and before something else... it had it's own place and can't be compared to anything.
I was at the September 9, 1992 show at the Pontiac Silverdome which included a song as part of the MTV music awards. Went to a concert and ended up on TV watched around the world. Such an amazing show!
OMG. The Energy... I got Goosebumps watching this. U2 are Peaking... Bono getting it on with the TV camera, whilst singing, with a passion and a clarity, that is breath taking. Edge is sooo cool, rocking his socks off , while quietly thinking.. wtf is Bono doing now? Larry is sweating and hoping Bono doesn't go to far... While Adam is smoking a cigarette and still managing to play base and jump on a podium at the same time. This is why I Iove u2. They give it everything they've got, and then some... and then some more. Totally mind blowing is this. Miss you boys. 🌸

"In my dream I was trying to drown my sorrows but my sorrows they learned to swim" is one of the outstanding passages of "Achtung Baby" which is magnificent.
Achtung Baby gets better and better with age. Its the bridge between the plastic 80s into the far more experimental and lysergic early 90s. This was the best of the album and one of U2s best too.
I have the 💿cd original cd and cassette and in the paper lyrics they read: In my dreams I was drowning in sorrows but in my sorrows, I learned to swim. 🤔
I was at Popmart Johannesburg and it was the first time I heard this song . I still get goosebumps . That soaring guitar solo and atmosphere.....There is no band like U2.
The outside broadcast tho' I recorded it off the TV way back when is on one of the DVDs that came with the 10 disc Achtung Baby 20th anniversary box set.
U2 were an unstoppable force between Joshua tree and achtung baby. 2 totally different albums, yet both masterpieces. And they were amazing live back then aswell.
@@kelm95 I agree w you, another example of golden era for U2 2000-2006, yet very underrated for some conservatives fans. Also 1983-1985 another great era War album & his tour, Live At Red Rocks, The Unforgettable Fire album & Tour + Live Aid.
It's amazing how much Bono's voice thinned out after this tour. It was so full here. On Popmart he sounded like a different singer and unfortunately has never regained that ZOOTV voice again.
I watched it too while on the landline phone 📞☎️with my sister as I served in military. Good uplifting moment while being in a depressing duty. Achtung Baby is one of the top five best ever albums ever recorded, the Zoo TV tour is maybe the greatest ever tour by a Rock band. Doesn’t get much better than this.
One of things I love about this song is that at end where Bono asks, "Is this rock and roll?!?" because it is actually an inditement of everyone performing and listening to this song considering the story of the song itself.
Got to say this era of U2 is up there with any artist past or present … pure genius frontman- entertainment- tight nit playing - the sound is out of this world for a live show
Yes, it is. At the same time, thematically it's so much more than rock-and-roll. Also, in their concerts, this band has pretty consistently elevated rock-and-roll as an art form over the last several decades.
U2 has been called overrated so many times that they're actually underrated at this point. They inspired damn near every mainstream band after them, along with a host of underground ones. Way way ahead of their time.
Oh yes !!! It would be great to have an outside broadcast DVD / Blu-ray edition of this gig with subtitles for most countries. Think about it for the early fans folks 😁😉

I doubt anyone who's young today can appreciate how new this decace felt when it was happening. The massive change and rejection of the 80s in terms of music and fashion, the political upheaval of Europe, the sense of change in the air. Every other music video made you go "wow", and completely new musical trends like grunge and trance would either sweep you away or create debate with your friends. Snowboarding was a sport of contention; that slivery tech look dominated action films like James Bond; restaurants and bars assumed an entirely new futuristic look; magazine layouts and fonts exploded into twisted weirdness; mobile phones went from grey blocks to sparkling design wonders; everything in the visual and aural landscape was thrown around in the matter of years... This tour and its visuals is a massive reminder of all that.

U2 at the height of musicianship, craftsmanship, technology, Bono's voice and cultural relevancy. Nothing will ever surpass ZOOTV .
Popmart, Elevation and last two tours did in my view 😆
of any artist ever

Not even him, unfortunately
His son 😉
Never got the "Edge is overrated" comments...The man is on fire in this video, fantastic playing and is up there with the best IMO.
