You, Sir, are an amazingly hard-working, knowledgeable, and disciplined craftsman. Thanks for the informative video. and the way you included all of us in your struggles. Enjoyed particularly the "find a creative alternative" method when you used your foot to loosen the rusted exhaust bolt! You tenacity and ability to work in tight spaces is admirable. Well done!
My '93 LS 400 tranny has the same problem yours did and is in the shop. It really helped me understand the cost of what needs to be done. Thank you!
I have a 1998 Lexus LS 400. I live in Arizona and I am having someone work on Transmission - Rebuilt.
It's taking approx 3 weeks to receive it. 6-18-22. Your video was excellant .
Nice where you able to get it back .. I literally just got done re doing a oil pump on a 02 gs430 yet to install ....btw I'm glad the video could assist
Dude you are a beast, this channel has a future 🔥🔥🔥
You make it look so easy! Mine stays in gear a bit longer and clunks when swapping gears. This makes me feel much better about doing it myself.
It looks easier than my 99 camry because you don't need to drop the subframe, steering rack and both axles.
I promise it's not that easy and I do know the FWD Lexus and agreed dropping the whole subframe is a pain.
But yes I hope my video helps with some things
brah can tell me how to get the trans dipstick tube off the bracket by the valve cover faka is so hard to get to from underneath or above tried everything I think it’s a 13mm
I believe it's a 14mm and you have to get it from underneath or from the tire wheels well that's the two ways I have had success
I know its been over a year. But great video. My 97 ls400 with the 4 speed doesnt go into reverse, 3rd and 4th gear. And everytime you put it in drive, it lurches forward. Got a new transmission to put into it, but what are your thoughts on replacing the torque converter as well?
Thank you I know it's been over a year and I haven't posted in awhile currently in the middle of life changes to be able to produce more videos thank you for the comment 👍
What tools would be needed to swap
It out
With that exhaust removal I had to subscribe. A little bit of foot tech!
Thanks I actually learned that a whole ago from my friend Nalu ... It's a common sense thing but idk why until he showed me that I never thought of it
Hey man if you swap a transmissions do you have to have some sort of diagnoses to have your engine read your transmissions
Or can I just slap it on and call it a day
I never did so long as it's a 4 speed trans going back into a 4 speed ls400
It's fine same is correct for the 5 speed automatic
Also depending on the year you may have to swap over harness because one year has like a transmission temp sensor on the wiring I had to do that with my daily but it worked perfectly fine
Awesome vid fam keep it up 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Thanks bro glad you like it
Why was this transmission replaced? I have a 97 that refuses to get into reverse, shifts rough, slips under hard acceleration and refuses to shift. I replaced the lockup solenoid, changed filter and put toyota IV atf and still have the same issues.
We replaced it because it would have to be revd up to 6 k in order for it to go into gear and then it would slip once hot
@@AGMF086that’s what I have going on with my 2000 LS. High reving it is the only was to get it to engage in drive. Reverse seems to work fine when it’s cold but once it warms up reverse would disappear and no reving or anything helps get it in gear. Think ima pull my trans too
do you have the dimensions for block plate? I'm a machinist
I do not actually just use the old flange and good old
cardboard aided design
I have a 95 Lexus ls400 it starts but doesn't want to stay running first time I changed the spark plugs and mass air flow sensor I rarely drive it so three months later I tried starting it so I thought it was the Mass air flow sensor again but it's not do you have any suggestions anything will help please
I've run into a issue on the fuel rail where the fuel pressure regulator goes out it's not too common but I've had that issue before
Right on thank you keep my options open
🔥🔥🔥🔥
I got a 1996 ls400 Should i replace the transmission if it wont go in to reverse ?
How does it shift in the other forward gears
Also if you do change it make sure it's for the 96 because that one is five speed auto the ones I have been filming are 4speed auto
In and out
Pretty much str8 forward .. I mean it's a bi+*h cause it's so tightly in there but you can get it out
Ford calls it a flex coupler lol
Good to know
