    The signs next to the track are speed limits. So if a sign says 6, the speed limit is 6*10=60 kph
    Also, a thing about the train brake is that it takes time for air to get to all the carriages, and it also takes time for it to drop. That is why you can't go as soon as you release the brake.

    Some tips kan
    Your brakes take some time to build pressure so that’s why it sounds like your brakes are in all the time.
    The numbers next to tracks are in KM so you multiply by 10. 6*10=60 KM/H
    There are cab lights you can turn on to get a better view of your gauges. The headlight switch does not work because the headlights are not implemented into the game.
    Lime the game says keep reading the guide books. They have a lot of useful information
    The best braking procedure I’ve found is full independent brake and 3 scroll wheels on the train brake. That gives you maximum braking power and does not take that long to pressurize the lines.

    Hey Kan. here some tips since your just beginning in Derail.
    1. For easy Early on cash, take on the Shunter License, As it will allow you to move freight in the yard for easy cash to help you get the better Licenses and contracts.
    2. When picking up contracts, some consists will be spread-out throughout the yards so before taking the contract to the validator to take the job, Go round the yards and locate the same Consists with the Jobs ID number which would show for example: Shunting - CSW-SU-05, the SU-05 is what you would look for, then all you need to do is use your locomotive to put the Consist together, then once its all together, stay connected to it, go back to the job room and then validate the job. meaning it saves you time on having to put your train together and also means you can get the time bonus.
    3. There are a few good mods for Derail valley for solo like for example: Route Manager, Heads-Up Display and Dispatcher. There is also a Mod where you can have a friend be your rail dispatcher who controls all switches and can see all consist ID's meaning they could guide you to your required Cars to hook up to your train, the Mod is called "Remote Dispatch", Since you and Dapper do alot of Railroads online, you both could do derail valley with this mod.
    There is one multiplayer mod though but it doesnt work with other mods, meaning you would need to only have the multiplayer mod installed in order for you and a friend to play together. but its currently unstable.
    hope a few of these tips and mods help for your future Derail Valley videos.

    Just got this game like 3 days ago, and I'm still learning stuff, of course. Most of the stuff I've learned has already been mentioned here, but there are a couple of things that haven't been mentioned.
    1) I learned a trick for your world map....pull it out while you are standing in front of the right front window. There is a little shelf in front of you. With your World map out, hold down R while positioning the map on that shelf and then release R. Now your map will always be laid out in front of you to look down at.
    2) While in an office, go upstairs and in one of the rooms you will find a bunch of boxes. Take one of those boxes with you and get in your loco and place the box somewhere on the floor. Then use this box to store your licenses, pay stubs, training books or anything else you want to keep, but not take up space in your inventory. Just hold the item over the box and hit G
    3) You can use the Q and E keys to lean out the windows on each side.
    4) You can hook up two (or more) engines together without buying the "Multiple Unit" license. Just couple them as normal, but DO NOT hook up the blue lines. Now you will be able to control each engine independently, but you will need to physically move from one to the other to control it.

    Train brakes apply almost instantly. but it takes time to release them. you can see when your brakes are fully released by looking at the pressure gauges. the round signs with the numbers are speed signs just multiply the number by 10 and thats the speed limit in kmh. be careful when coming up to junctions on fast track the speed can change drastically around switches.

  • @Stas539
    @Stas539 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Modern train brakes when losing pressure, so after you release brakes you need wait until it goes up again. The longer the train, the longer time to apply brake or release it needs, becouse air can't be blowed off or pumped up instantly. Air wave moves by pipe slowly from locomotive to the end of train, car by car. For exemple: first brakes releses on locomotive, then few seconds after on first car, then on second car, etc. On dashboard you can see pressure in brake pipe. Low pressure in braking pipe means applied brakes, high pressure - released brakes. Keep in mind that this gauges shows pressure status only on locomotive, not on cars. So when you see relieased brake on dashboard, if your train long, cars on the end of train probably not released yet. Brake res on dasboard means brake reservoir, it is a storage tank for air, when you losed pressure in brake pipe, new pressure goes to pipe from this reservoir. When brake reservoir losed air too, you need whait until compressor makes new pressure in reservoir. "Train brakes" applyes brakes on whole train, "independent brake" only uses on single locomtive without cars.

    24:59 That little "ka-thunk" means you "ran through" a switch (25:02) where two tracks merge that wasn't set to receive you. Switches need to be set during a "facing move" (approaching a switch from the "front", when the track splits from one into two tracks) of course, but ideally they should also be set for a _"trailing_ move" (approaching a switch from the "back", when two tracks merge into one) too. In the real world, trains that run through switches don't tend to have much trouble just _forcing_ the switch's points (the moving parts on the tracks that change the direction of the train) into the appropriate position, but this often damages the switch and might prevent it from working properly for anyone else.
    If it's too much trouble, of course, you can imagine that the Derail Valley Railroad Company has safety equipment on their switches that makes running through no big deal, and I think there are real-world devices that do mitigate (but not _eliminate)_ the potential damage, but if you really want to try being as realistic as possible, you should always keep an eye out when tracks merge to see if the switch is set to _your_ side.

    A couple of tips for this game:
    1: Don't accelerate too fast or you'll have wheel slip. You don't have a huge amount of sand so it's better to save it for when you really need it. You will need the sand for steeper uphills. I would recommend start accelerating at power 2 or 3, and then throttle up as you get up to speed. Also, the heavier the train, the less power you need before starting to get wheel slip, which damages the wheels.
    2: Also, you should have much lower speed when coming up to wagons that you want to connect to, otherwise your locomotive, and sometimes also the wagons, will break. I tend to try to use no more than 10 km/h when connecting.
    3: Losing traction (i.e. getting wheel spin) will mean that the train will slow down, especially going uphill. That's when you really need the sand. This might feel counterintuitive, but that's actually how it works irl.
    4: The numbers indicates speed limits, divided by 10. So 3 means 30 km/h, 6 means 60 km/h, 10 means 100 km/h etc. Remember that the speed limit applies to the whole train, not just the engine, so if you go through a turn that has speed limit 50 and comes out on a straight that has speed limit 80, you'll need to wait until the last wagon has passed the 80 sign before throttling up, or wagons towards the rear end might derail.
    5: You can "fix" your train in the stations in the "Career Manager" > "Fees", but you can also go to a workshop (marked on the station maps with a wrench), which will cost half of the regular cost. When you get more licenses, the copay will increase so later on this will really make a difference.
    6: The signs under the speed limits are the following: "white over blue" means level ground, "yellow over blue with a number" means uphill with a percentage indicated by the number and "red over blue with a number" means the same but downhill. There are also "down arrow" and "up arrow" signs. They mean that the next speed limit will be significantly decreased or increased, if I remember correctly the speed limit change is 20 or more when that sign is shown.
    7: It is good to not start accelerating too much before your brake pipe pressure is up. There is a brake pipe pressure gauge on your dashboard, you should wait until it goes past 3.5 before starting to apply power. The more you release using the main brake, the longer it will take to go back up. Also a longer train needs more time to build pressure.
    8: The independent brake is only on the loco. This means that the heavier the train is, the less it will slow it down. The main brakes apply brake on all the wagons as well, so it's recommended to use that when braking a whole train. Although don't apply too much brake or the train might slow down too much before it can build pressure again in the brake line.

  • @eykan_ow
    @eykan_ow 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Tips:
    Rightclick make you zoom in as if you had binoculars
    You can't die but if you do the slightest bit of damage to your train you will later in the game have to pay the full amount.
    You should service every train you drive to save on money (automatic validator fee pay is expensive)
    There are keybinds so you dont have to move throttle/breaks by hand, very useful if you want to be quick and get that bonus
    There are "secret" unlockables in the game in different stores around the game, I wont spoil too much but the most useful of these is the train controller (makes you able to use keybinds whenever you are within a 300 meter radius of the train locomotive you have connected to the controller, very very useful if you want to be quick with longer trains)
    The white circular signs you see everywhere are speed limits, i thiiiiink if it says 6 it means 60 kmph, i dont think it goes into mph
    So if you see a 4 or 3 be VERY careful because that's where you're most likely to derail :)
    I can't wait for the new Simulator update that's coming relatively soon, this is a great time to learn the game I think.
    Have fun and happy train-ing!

    Round signs side of track are speed limits, multiply sign X 10 (6 means 60 km/h).
    Signs under speed limits show flat, incline, decline. Specifics are in back of your Train Basics book.
    You can grab a job sheet and get an idea where the cars are before starting job, in fact move the locomotive in front of the cars without coupling before validating job to start time. Gives you an extra few minutes sometimes to get under your bonus time.
    You can, in fact, grab any locomotive you are licensed for from any yard at any time. Right now you just have the DE-2, the small shunt locomotive; you can work up to the steam license (high work to drive, cheaper license) and the DE-6, the typical freight locomotive.
    Get the shunting license soon, will let you split/unload/load/build trains in yard that can then give you a job to deliver those trains to destinations.
    Glad to see you've picked up this one, really excited to see more of it soon.

    Some more tips(unless things have changed since i last played this game)
    - You can reduce the fees you need to pay by servicing the locomotive/engine yourself in a service shed, you still have to pay for the service but it should be cheaper in total
    - The track numbers/names are usually one letter, one number and one letter, so it's not Bee Twenty, it's B Two O, where the 'O' means it's an Output track and the one you arrived at is C Two I where 'I' is for Input track, these things can help you find the right track sometimes
    - The information plates on the railroad cars have the Job ID on them(in the lower right section) and the jobs themself follow a fairly simple format where the job you did for example was SM-FH-48 for Steel Mill, Freight Haul, job nr 48
    Hope these help 😁

  • @AlexanderBurgers
    @AlexanderBurgers 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Track names are easy-ish, the letter refers to the page in the Station Map, the number is just 1 through 9, and the last digit isn't a number, but a letter,
    I = inbound (receiving tracks)
    S = shunting or siding
    O = outbound
    L = loading / unloading area
    Car order doesn't matter for deliveries, as long as they're on the correct track (between the track name markers).
    Jobs are color coded (empties (yellow), loaded (green), shunting (red)).
    Time bonus is especially nice at the beginning, the time will get shorter the more licenses you have. One way to get a good head start on the time bonus is to hook up the locomotive first before you accept the job from the job validator.
    And you don't have to clear your fees every time, only if it's not letting you accept new jobs (IE: if you have a lot of spare cash, but also a lot of open fees), or when you want to purchase new licenses.
    Every train locomotive is yours to use, as long as you have the license. SO you probably want to retrieve your locomotive from the far end for your next job. :)
    Paying the fees repairs the locomotive and fills the fuel and sand. (handy trick if you run out too, just teleport to town and pay.)

    the way the tracks are labeled isn't B10, its B-1-O as in yard B, Track 1, Outbound. and the Inbound tracks at the harbor is read like this; C2I, Yard C, Track 2, Inbound. the S is for Shunt track to park cars. For the job to take the unhitched cars, they need to be between the switches, not per se between the signs

    HA ! I also saw a youtuber play this and I played it for 20 hours yesterday before passing out.
    Mile markers are speed limits. It's a single number to be visible. 6 = 60 km/h. Car order doesn't matter. Game looks beautiful in full graphics! You can use the scroll wheel for most things instead of LMB, and right click to zoom. Yes, you should read the manuals. There is DV one, there is one for trains and signs, and there is even one about keyboard shortcuts! I'd love to watch you play more! Have fun! ^-^ ♥

  • @sayonicad8931
    @sayonicad8931 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    1)The speed limit is 10x the number on the plate like 3 is 30 6 is 60 etc.
    2)The train brakes apply because you bleed the air out of the Brake actuators and that applies the brake but to release it you need to pressurize the actuators all the way for them to release. You can see it on your gauge that says brake pipe from 0 to 4 bar's after you apply the brakes you need to wait for the needle to get to 4 bar's or all the way clockwise.
    3)You should just mostly use the independent brake for basic things like shunting or stopping at the station because it is the most responsive brake and doesn't release the pressure from the cars. You could use small amount of train brake to like maintain speed downhill.
    4) I guess I don't have to say to use the sander when you need traction because you are an experienced train driver lol
    That's all. I like brakes.

    You can drive the train with some key commands too they are available on the Derail Valley discord or just online as well.
    Figured I just add them to this post too;
    Y/U Throttle
    H/J Reverser
    K/L Independent Brake
    N/M Train Brake
    You can use these controls anywhere on the locomotive, so you can drive it on the roof if you really want it to, later you can buy an locomotive remote which is useful for switching etc.

    @AlmightyJu2 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    This game is great, but there's only 3 engines you can use once you get the license for them.
    A note regarding the signs, speed limits are in kph, 4 = 40kph. Under the signs is the gradient in +/- or flat if no change, there is also an up arrow or down arrow (red and i believe blue) which which mean the speed limit is going up or down at the next sign. The number (0.3) under the Y sign you saw is the distance to the Y junction. You can go over the speed limits but be warned you can derail the whole train
    You can use any engine and use/move any wagons, after some time trains and any wagons not related to a job you have taken will despawn. Engines spawn in lots of places and you dont always get the same spawn in the same locations
    The weight of the jobs matter, I believe the DE2 can manage 500T according to the manual but i once tried to run a 480T job and the route was on a long +0.8 gradient and couldn't get up so had to do it in 2 parts, so until you get to hook up multiple engines take note of how heavy things are
    Last little tip, you can use the independent brake more, the train brake works a lot faster but you then have to wait for the pressure to build in the lines before it fully releases, so if you want to slow down a little bit you can use the train brake on 1 or 2 notches and release very quick or just smack the independent on full and not worry about the pressure, tho both work fine

    It'll be a bit of a grind but my best advice for this game is, save all of your money until you can afford to buy the steam locomotive license, long 1, and manual maintenance all at once. With every license you reduce the amount of time you have to deliver to get your bonus. You reduce the amount of the bonus and your maintenance fees go up. So wait until you can buy all 3 and have a few extra grand so you can buy a shovel and lighter all at the same time and then you can progress a bit more quickly because trying to haul with the shunter engine gets super tedious and you'll want to be out of it as quickly as you can

    Great Video, thanks! In my opinion though: play it with vr - I got it a while ago for vr and tried it also once with mouse and keyboard, but it makes soo much more fun in vr and is also way more intiutive, as you are able to put one hand at the regulator and one hand on the brakes at the same time and so on, feels like really standing on there and enjoying the ride :)

    You can MU units even without the license, you just have to do it the "old fashioned way", hop between locomotives like you do in Railroads Online (same applies to the later Steam Locomotive). The little shunter is a good starting locomotive but it WILL overheat if running too long (not idle) like up a hill. The steamer is your next locomotive to unlock and its a very powerful locomotive and the best Locomotive is the DE6 but the license is quite expensive.
    The F "skip" button is the fastest way to get around, almost with Railroads Online had that function.
    Overall, welcome to Derail Valley, one amazing game, MP is planned and currently the map overhaul is next up on the plate, so Double Track main line and the like.

    If you can deliver the load in time you get a 50% bonus. You can get the cars connected first, then validate the job, it saves a lot of time.

    Those brakes are almost like real ones so you have to wait until the pipe pressure meter goes to about 4 bars (train brake takes a while to repressurize, while the independent takes few secs) that's why you hear wheels braking even if your brakes are off

    Okay, you need to play train sim world 2; Derail valley is cool and all but train sim world 2 is THE BEST consumer grade train simulator on the market. It is much more detailed and immersive than this game and it provides you with adequate tutorials to teach you how to drive the trains. It mirrors real life locations, trains, voice acted scenarios (like radios and stuff), Fully interactive cabins and physics. I would really enjoy watching you play it. The only bad thing about it is that there isn't a lot of base game content; dovetail has made like everything DLC (OUCH). Its best to buy it on sale for like 7 or 8 bucks imo.

    Really admire the detail of this game. its close to a real job similator for a train driver. now it needs other AI trains, signals and an AI train director you have to communicate with (esp. for the shunting)and im happy. And of course a multiplayer or at least a co-op.

    The number signs are MILE markers and that small numbers under them are the GRADE. As you leave places the mileage goes up and then as you approach things the mileage goes down. And engine direction will matter as when at speed the air grates are designed to cool the engines and not blow exhaust into the cab

    Ya this is so good on a vive - where you can wander around the train too...
    order doesn't matter... you have drop the loads different stations; but ya even f you have to shunt the cars yourself - the resulting combination doesn't matter exactly.
    I do really like the remote control compared to railroads online though :)
    Warping so fast by teleport isn't so bad in 3deither.... I've tele-zoomed across the map too :) or even up to the tallest mountains...
