    Turning in haul jobs also generated shunting jobs to break the train back down and unload it. Then THAT generates new shunting jobs to rebuild a train. Circle of Yard Life.

    Hey kAN, few tips.
    1: You're using the automatic brake way too aggressively. Just give it little taps. Hyce shows how to do it pretty well in his videos.
    2: You can use the valve on the brake lines to brake from with the cars. Open it up, air flows out and brakes engage. Again though, use little taps so you don't end up locking up.
    3: If you're planning to do more shunting jobs, try to get the remote control unit. Allows you to operate diesel engines (DE2/DE6) from afar, makes shunting incredibly easy.

  • @someguy564
    @someguy564 2 ปีที่แล้ว +15

    I do also recommend getting the steam train before the De6 because it can haul a lot and is cheaper than the De6. You can haul longer trains with the steam engine, so it's easier to grind for the De6

    When shunting I tend to stand on the last car and just open its brake valve for a while once it has passed the switch I need to reverse into. By the time I jumped back to the locos pressure is already up again. This is especially useful if you start doing more than 2 jobs simultaneously (concurrent jobs 2 allows you to do as many as you like)

  • @Orblets
    @Orblets 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    Hey Kan just wanted to say. because I have a feeling you might not actually read the license when you do buy it and then you'll miss it. With the concurrent jobs 2 license you can have as many jobs active at the same time as you want. The 1st license has a limit the 2nd doesn't

  • @magicmushrum6661

    concurrent jobs 2 will let you take as many jobs as you want at once (ive had 100+ long trains doing this) also it is required to have before you can get the DE6 license anyway there's also special items at certain shops the key to that shed you found and the caboose inside are at the city shop there's also a loco remote at the MF town shop that is nice for shunting or controlling a rear loco

    Hey Kan, IRL you dont want the brake valves to be open at all, so if you uncouple you would open first the valves and then disconnect the pipes and if you wanna make sure a train doesnt move you need a minimum of 2 Handbrakes or 4 drag shoes but those things dont exist in the game yet and i never had train cars just start rolling away in this game so you dont really need it anyway. Sorry if you didnt wanted that information just figured you might be interested in it and sorry if its inaccurate for america since i work for a european railway company i dont know a lot about the american railways.

    • @fmkb8380

    Glad to see your back with this I thought you might of given up due to wallet thickness LOL. Glad to see you at it again. Once you have completed the Loading the job becomes a contract to accept in the station office. Added advantage = Loco is already coupled and ready. (I Obviously made this comment a bit early). Lol.. Run as many locos as you can find on the multi licence. I Had 5 on my last play through. You're correct in assuming you only need extra loco power for uphill pulling. DE2 Pulls 400 tons each on level track. I just turn extra loco ignitions off when consist weight is lighter than the pulling power. Then I Turn ignitions on again for inclines. The "Jut off" is your house. It does nothing, It's just a place you can look at if passing. the shed is where the caboose is but you need to buy a key from a shop but I can't remember which one.

  • @dapullia
    @dapullia 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    You got the brakes correct. The main brake works over the entire train as long as the brake pipe is connected. Independent brakes (small handle) only works on the one engine until you buy the MU license and connect the MU cable. Honestly, MU license and the remote are the most useful licenses early on. Can setup 2 to 4 DE2s up front then have a banker set in rear remote controlled with all engines in front and rear sets hooked up for MU. I know MU works with 4 engines at least, think more and it lets you use them as a single engine.

    Definitely get that remote. And that multiple unit. And once you have the remote, then seek out the caboose, the caboose will extend your range on your remote.. Shunting can make you lots of extra income. Harbor Town and Food town are the best. Once you get through all that, the Military is fun, and be very lucrative as well. And you are right, getting to the destination safely is important. Good job on the video.

  • @TheRobiRobson
    @TheRobiRobson 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Using diesels in a multiple unit config means: what you do and read in one engine counts for the others as well (throttle, reverser, ind. brakes, temp) no matter whether they are on or off (you can control the other engines even though the one you are currently in has no engine turned on). i would not recommend doing hauls with a de6 coupled to a de2 (both on, wheel slip tolerances are different)

    Your videos inspired me to play derail valley. If you plan on staying in the harbor for a wile, get hazmat then manual service. • @neonsamurai1348

    You should grab the remote control (found at one of the stores, for 25k) it allows you to remotely control a diesel engine, and is great for shunting or having a second loco in the back that you can control separately. SH282 is also a good investment as it is a lot cheaper than the DE6, and a real handful to manage (you would also need the shovel and lighter).
    You also would have been better taking the main line toward the steel mill and take the bend just before, than taking the southern route. The southern route is a mess, constant speed and elevation changes, and very twisty.

      It is fantastic for shunting, as you no longer need to be on the train, you can stand at the switch your long train needs to pass before reversing. You can ride the rearmost car and accurately control the brakes while reversing to connect more cars without damage.
      You can even do something they do in modern railroading, control a rear locomotive from the front engine to help brake/power the train on inclines at different rates.

  • @skylark1024
    @skylark1024 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Kan if you look at the boards in the office where you pick jobs, you will find a logistical table. That shows the industrial logistics of the whole game. So at some places you can only load and not unload. Also, there is certain cycle that you follow in this game. Suppose you are starting with empty cars in one station. So cycle goes as follows :-
    1 - Shunting(SH) - Arrange and load empty cars with goods and keep it on outbound track. It may vary tho, from having all empty cars together and having simple loading job to putting the pieces of different cars together fist and then load. This generates that jobs after you complete shunting.
    2 - Freight Haul(FH) - Simplest job. Deliver the arranged train to destination station. Remember, whenever doing FH job, the track where they need to arrive at will always be empty. Not completely true for Logistical Haul tho.
    3 - Shunting (SH) - Reverse of previous Shunting job, you have to unload this time. And you may or may not have to break and store the train as well.
    From here it can go 2 ways, You might either generate a new Shunting job of those cars or Logistical Haul job. If you get Shunting, Step 1 is repeated again. For Logistical haul, a new step is generated.
    4 - Logistical Haul (LH) - In this job, you take empty cars back to their origin station afaik. It is similar to FH jobs to some respect, but there are some catches. One of those being you may or may not have other train cars on both origin and/or destination stations. So you might need to shunt even before getting your cars. And this is the reason why you get extra few minutes for LH then FH going the same destination. Also, they pay less than FH, but are lighter. That is why LH License cost 20k cause these jobs would bankrupt early players. LH is mid game license.
    One more thing about shunting. It mentions whether it is unloading or loading job. If it is unloading, the station the job is created at will be below other station on job sheet, meaning it came from the above station. If it is loading, the destination station is below. You can use this info to prepare and take multiple jobs to same destination.

    @28:47 I guess this is because those are diesel-electric-shunters / engines, where the diesel engine powers a generator instead of the drivetrain. The drivetrain is powered by electric motors, which get their electric power from those diesel powered generator(s). As you may know electric motors do have enormous torque when they are doing low or even no RPMs (when getting powered by electricity) but the torque usually decreases at higher RPMs. This is why you get wheelslip very easily when starting off with a train at for example 50% throttle than at higher speeds at 50% throttle applied because those electric motors do have a higher RPM and lower torque when going faster.
    Please correct me, if I'm wrong.

    The DE6 Is pretty and Powerful. Its also very expensive AND There are lots of penalties ie. bonus times go down, copay prices go up etc. Self service is OK But tedious, Steam is OK But Get used to route layouts first. Don't forget that the two contracts you just put on the "I" Incoming rails are now available as shunting jobs. TBH I'd get the multiple unit and multiple jobs 2. Then find jobs for the MIDDLE route to steel mill, farm, EMPTY cars to Oil well Central (I Don't think you need hazmat for empties), City SW and Machine factory. Then do a return journey from Machine factory to those depots back to the harbour. There's only 1 significant incline which is just after the steel mill and ALL switches are set to go into those depots. However All City SW Tracks are dead ends so i'd reverse in OR Miss that depot but remember point is set to go into it. This is best tactic I reckon, To get some serious $$$ Plus gets you used to that route. You might not get bonus but the journey will keep you busy.

    @aaronpaul5990 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Use the independend it does not have the delay of the other that keeps breaking even after you turned it off

    after finishing a shunting job from A to B his transport should appear in the station A to go to B, if instead you have B in the station that has arrived in A, the transport does not appear at the end

    Go for logistics license. It has no extra insurance penalty and gives you bonus time. Or go for manual service to save on costs

    With the multi unit license you hookup the emu line between the locomotives and then you control all of the locomotives that are connected from just one locomotive

    You should save for the bigger engines cuz they’re cool

  • @buffbaer
    @buffbaer 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    35:05 actually you don´t want to leave that open. If you have to pull them from the other side you will have to walk all the way back to close that valve, but first you will ask yourself why the brake pressure is not building up. Only leave the valve open for some time to get the car brakes applied in a full braking state (don´t know the correct english word). Brake states are determined by the pressure in the brake line and how the air control valves will convert it to the air break cylinder of the cars.

    Well, you said to yourself to go right to avoid that jut off point so often, that when it came time you went right and said to yourself "We're going right, that's good." When you *should* have gone left, then right, then right again, and right.

    It would be a good idea to use your car brakes a little bit more. Morning little pups of air through a train move through the train like a wave and air does take time to build back up if you dump it

    KAN u definitely need to buy the DE6 license next, because as you buy more licenses the fees will be more and u will notice jobs won't pay that good compared to cost, so either now or u will have a hard time grinding for the loco
