The fellow members got a chance to read this in the members-only post, but I'm feeling a little generous. Here is my rendition of Jerry Reed's 'The Legend' (from Smokey and the Bandit btw):

On the brake keybinds they actually made the whole thing super intuitive IMO.
T/G = Throttle (you know this) then it goes along the keyboard in matched pairs, top row key increases, middle row key decreases)
Y/H = Reverser (Simple F/N/R in Diesels and electrics, more like the throttle in steam)
U/J = Automatic/Train brake
I/K = Independent Brake (Also means that you can remember I = Independent)
O/L = Dynamic Brakes
P/; = Hand Brake
Basically: How fast you want to go, which direction, then Brakes in (general) decreasing order of stopping power and usage.
For the DM 3 {/" is your left gear lever, }/| is your right gear lever
On the bottom row B/N is sand, M/< is cylinder cocks, and >/? are wipers
What i used to do on TSW is set up the brake keys in the backlight setting to be red for apply and green for release whenever i started tsw, was helpful for remembering which keys were which

All passenger operations with the Eat Shit and Die and the Eat Shit and Die Trying will no longer be terminated (For now).
With regard to hauling the world up the coal mine hill: might I suggest the 2-4-4-2 duplex? If you have sand on, it hauls a lot. You just have to remember that even hauling tonnage uphill, the bar should be hooked up partway to keep it from slipping. It doesn’t really get centered up because it has 4 cylinders, so it’ll just crawl up the hill. That also means that it will usually start with the bar at 50% cutoff or less, since at least one of the cylinders is probably on a power stroke.
I just bought derail valley the other day after watching you play it...
Here's how my first day went!
Boiler explosion of an S060
Crashing an S060 at a end of track buffer, derailing it
smashing an DE2 into another DE2, smashing the windows
Starting a Diesel Flamethrower from a tank car
playing and completing the tutorial
Binning a DE2 into the bottom of the lake in the middle of the night (this game is a horror game all right)

Thats a classic first day in derail valley. There are worse things such as exploding the whole oil central (which i did in my first day in the game because a switch was in the wrong direction) dont worry.

To whom it may concern,
I’m starting to think the only way to successfully have passenger trains on the ES&D is smaller choo choos. The less driver the less possibility for problems.
From now on all passenger trains are limited to 4-4-0 and smaller until further notice. Please take this as a warning that the engineers will be held accountable for any damages caused by not following these “guidelines” .

Hey Hyce, if you want to know the keyboard controls of most things: When you hit alt and go into the static camera mode (I forget what it's called) there will be a small button on the top right of the screen with a keyboard symbol. When you press that 3 popups will open listing all the keyboard controls.

Fun fact, you can rebind the keyboard controls. I have mine set to what they were before the simulator update: U/Y = Throttle Up/Down(respectively, same applies to rest), J/H = Reverser Forward/Backwards, L/K = Independent Apply/Release, & M/N = Train Brake Apply/Release. At the same time, if you don't want to change them, it'll also show a list of the key binds, to help you memorize them!

10:45 - Not sure if I described that before. With buffer and chain couplers, the RL procedure would be like this:
- safety stop a few metres before the cars (not required in every system, but always a good idea, if you ask me)
- gently (< 2 km/h) creep up on the cars (especially with locomotives whose force isn't so finely adjustable it's common to apply a bit of the independent brake and work against that for better control)
- compress (as strong as you can; I regularly compress with some 200-240 kN, though that obviously requires proper securement of the cut of cars) and apply the brakes, *then* take down the force
- if coupling the heating line, cut the traction system out (obviously not a steam era thing) by lowering the pantograph or shutting the diesel engine down
- connect and shorten the hook (leaving no more than two or three thread turns on passenger and no more than five thread turns on cargo trains)
- connect the air pipes
- connect other stuff if applicable

Process makes sense to me; we do safety stops even with knuckles much of the time over here. :)
You can bring up a keybind cheat sheet in game if you press ALT (mouse mode), then click the little keyboard icon that shows up in one corner of the screen.
I can relate Hyce! I have really bad allergies.
The I key is the independent brake application key. The k key is independent brake release and U key is train brake application and J key is the train brake release.
Rode the C&TS RR on 2 June. Kept thinking if Hyce was the engineer, he would go notch 8, and get us to the stop points in half the time.
That route is... tougher than any in the valley, actually. lol!
Please do a video on all the different types of regulators and reverses vs the jhonson bar, and a video on the mini switcher car, talking about it from real world and controls... Please
this game is next level in VR standing in a 2x2 meter room with controllers and a bar stool
Hyce, just make sure that the passengers have a couple of extra pairs of underwears. Because they will need it on the ES&D.

I don't know how possible it is with the boxcar mapping in DV but some of Hyce"s comments regarding train handling along with the previous passenger runs got me thinking somebody should do some ES&D boxcars with the old passenger service advertising slogans like Ride The Miracle Express. If You get There Alive It's A Miracle or ES&D Quit Complaining You're Alive Ain't Ya

At this point in time, I ignore a lot of the boards in this "spine" of the map in favor of three anecdotal operating rules:
1. SM wye - CSW: just peg the 60 tick on your speedo and fuhgeddaboudit; enough of the trackage is at 60 or 70 and coasting/cracked throttle at this kind of "common denominator" is economical or whatever (or am I just a Soviet metro designer)
2. that dumb hill west of SM: uphill slow, downhill fast (the tangentlike route on the wye is good for 80 if you can tolerate a singular frightening sideways jerk (we're on SEPTA rules here, not the Rocky Mountaineer lmao))
3. racetrack east of SM: fine, obey the boards and open it as hard as you can on the north bank part

The grade ones have a single diagonal line and the + or - grade number. The speed ones are just the chevron up or down. 👍
