@@joshuarandazzo7335 Because its a fun fact dont be grumpy. Its the same with their metric system. everything is in gallons except a 2 litre coke!! haha
Understand, even in fish and chips they are STILL fries in Murica. Also, when you look on menus, the title is fish and chips, and then the next line down right below it, there is a/an description/explanation that they are french fries.
Funny you should say that. Years ago in Wellington, someone spray painted “New Zealand Sux” in big letters on the side of a motorway overbridge. Within a few days, someone added “Australia NIL”.
Greg, you have been doing this for awhile now. I have no idea how you find the time to make all of these videos, but well done. Keep it up, man. You deserve big things. 🤘
Oof at that price I could get a piece of fish big enough to use as shelter from the rain. At least you get the option of it being grilled, here in the UK its either deep fried or go home.
That looks great. We don't have any good places to fish and chips around here anymore. There used to be an Irish woman around here who had a bar that sold a great plate of fish and chips, but that is a distant memory now.
Looks pretty good! Those chips look the perfect size and colour! Yummo! Have to give this place a go when we come up to the Goldie in a couple of weeks ❤️
Hi Greg -- in the US we used to have a chain called Zuider Zee (I'm not sure if I spelled that right) -- but they did fish and chips. As I recall I liked them but it has been so long ago. I think Long John's did them too but I'm less familiar with them. And I think there might be one in town that I could reach without a day's travel. Happy New Year.
Hey greggo, tried out this spot today with the wife and kids was quite good. And customer service with a smile was nice for a change. Cheers for idea.🖒
Knife n Fork oh dear how things have changed. When I was a kid in the 60's it came wrapped in a layer of butchers paper and then a couple of sheets of newspaper. The best summer holidays food ever.
Here in 'Merica our chips are what y'all call potato crisps, except in one dish: fish and chips. And we like them with tartar sauce and malt vinegar and salt. Cod and Haddock are the usual fish for the "best" fish and chips. Other fish are used for everything else. Also there's not usually an assortment of cooking styles to choose from nor more than one way to get them. It's battered and deep fried hunks of fish, no grilled or anything else. I've never heard of chicken sauce, though. I don't think it's something we eat.
yes in the USA we still call them fish and chips. even though on their own we do call them French fries. but all is good mate. its all tasty!! happy New Year!
Yeah but UK bbq fuckin sucks. Aussies do barbies and beer better than us just sayin. Their tropical climate is mucker. Our fish and chips fresher because of our cold climate, keeps fish better
As a Malaysian who visited Australia last year and tried the local Fish ans Chips, i'd been wondering how local Australian eat it. In Malaysia it's like a must for us to have sauces for every type of grilled/fried fish or chicken. So when i tried the Australian Fish and Chips i was quite surprised that it comes with only fish and the chips, sometimes with tartar sauce too. But I'd must say that the fish tastes good. Thanks for sharing this! Now I know the correct way to eat like the local.
let's see how big it is!!lol looks like Long John Silver's, which is over priced here in Tx!! what is chicken salt?? we call that fish and fries in Tx. Happy New Year my dear......but a shooting can be had next year!!lmao Smooches
Fish and Chips is the normal term used in Oregon and California. Halibut or cod are the main fish used for the entree and the chips are just like the ones you were eating :)
Fresh n wild Portside Brisbane. Also the fishmongers wife also in Brisbane. Next time you decide to do another. I’m surprised you’re still fit after your expeditions. Good on ya mate
Looks like good fish n chips. I once bought some fish and chips at Coffs Harbour (halfway between Sydney and Brisbane). For 12$ it was extremely over price for the very little amount there was and I could not even bite into it. It was practically rubber.
wow we def don't get different options for how its to be cooked! I have no idea what chicken salt is but I'm so curious now!!! We are an Island where fish is in abundance but I've never had Fish and Chips. Generally here its cod/plaice for Fish & Chips & it comes with a little portion of mushy pea's and tartar sauce plenty of salt and vinegar Question, do you think it was worth the money!? Here Fish & Chis Super would cost €5.50 with a drink
We call them fish and fries and we usually don't add the two item together meaning, we'll ask for some fish and it will either come with fries or a lot of people order hush puppies with their fish. Not me though. I like fries with mine.
I actually don't know a single proper fish 'n' chips place that gives you lemon. Only restaurants. But I think it really adds to it so I wish it was the norm.
The Quayside in Whitby have the best fish and chips i’ve ever had even though we do get great fish and chips where i live in the north east of scotland 🏴
Do they cook it for you while you wait, or has it been sitting in a bain marie for hours soaked in grease like the first and last time I had fish n chips in England?
i have a local fish and chip shop called blue ocean fish and chipary its the best for $15 you can get $5 worth of chips a burger with the lot and 2 potato cakes and trust me the chips are massive so if your in melbourne in the suburb of cranbourne try it it will sadasfy your hunga
It doesn’t look that crispy but the price is okay. The type of fish in Australia is basa, hake, for basic. Everything else is upgrade from there. Also not all are serving local fish. Basa is not local and if you paying over $10 you are ripped off.
Hey Greggo. Come to New Zealand and try our fish and chips! We are so friendly here we will even offer you a beer! Peace out cuzzy from a brother from another mother down under New Zealand.
Bit of a different review format, so this is your mate's shop or something? I'd probably give it a crack if super hungry but frozen or pre-battered seafood is not something he should be displaying in the front case. Never seen that before anywhere. One good place you could review is Chumley Warners in Birkdale. They do British style. A bit weird at first but there's nothing else like it in SEQ.
More like the fish n chips guy did not shake then leave in the drip tray he probably skipped the drip tray, yeah used to work in a fish n chip shop as a teen, great video.
What is chicken salt? It’s called Fried fish and French fries. That’s what I call it here in freezing cold 0 degrees temp NYC, holy crap the window is open a crack and I must immediately close it before I freeezzze
that looks delicious -- looks so much better than the McDonalds and Hungry Jack you've eaten and in the US that would be Fish & Chips -- but you'd still be eating fries
Chips are called fries. Some also call it French fries even though the French have nothing to do with it. I hope I do get an opportunity to go to Australia by your neck of the woods as y'all have many awesome sites and eateries.
Uncle Rico the potatoes look different, I think the majority of chip shops here use British potatoes (obviously) and probably put a lot more into preparing them as a good chip shop will only sell basic chip shop food. This place wasn't really a proper chip shop so I can give them the benefit of the doubt. They still looked good.
Uncle Rico actually believe it or not, most or all of the fish and chip shops in the UK don't use proper malt vinegar, its a concentrated non brewed condiment which is the proper term for it, which they dilute down, It saves cost I suppose, but they always call it vinegar, false advertising lol.
Uncle Rico its the chip shops being tight, probably because it would cost a lot more to buy proper malt vinegar but they still call it vinegar when it's not which is wrong I think lol
was eating some a day ago literally! Good eating, fish was cod so it was flaky and the batter was rich! Fries that came with was better than mc donalds. $11 not bad
in U.S its just fish and chips but then in any other meal its fries.
why do we need to know that?

I agree
Absolutely love your infectious enthusiasm Greg.
Keep up the great work.....
9.90! Here in new zealand you could buy 3 fish 2 hotdogs a potato frotter and chips for 10 dollars 😂
Well where I'm from you could buy 4 fish, two Abba cd's and a Golden Retriever for 10 dollars.
Wdf... That's so cheap.
Sure, but it would be dog food.
FunWithReo strewth!
That's true, and better quality with hand cut chips
Do you like malt vinegar on your fish and chips? Lemon is great, but I think the vinegar is more traditional.
GunnyDago yummo
You need to try them in the uk, in Whitby, make it a New Years resolution.
or anywhere in yorkshire that cook in beef dripping , has to be haddock or cod too.
im from leeds in yorkshire so used to decent fish n chips, that looked soggy and some mystery fish. needs scraps mushy peas and salt n vinegar too.
This!
Surprised you refer to them as scraps, would have thought Leeds called them "bits" as they do in Huddersfield
greg you crack me up brother
Oof at that price I could get a piece of fish big enough to use as shelter from the rain. At least you get the option of it being grilled, here in the UK its either deep fried or go home.

Christies Too down there in Woolloowin does a great fish and chips. Been around 20+ years too
Hey Greg I'm a huge fan from Texas and your videos put a smile on my face every day keep up the good work man.
Fries are thin cut. Chips are thick cut. A standard fish and chips should come with thick cut chips.
Most common and popular types of fish at Fish and Chip shops here in the UK are Cod and Haddock.
You're right Greg , flake is shark and fairly cheap. Butterfish is common in SA and that's mulloway.
2017. This must have been when you first started. :) In America, I've seen the meal called by both 'fish and chips' and 'fish and fries'.
Great video.

Lemon juice? That's what the posh people put on their fish and chipped potatoes. Non-brewed condiment is what you'll get in a proper chip shop. :-)
