    Hello, I have a question.
    You've mentioned 3 lists. The checkout list is clear.
    The signup and Newsletter list difference are not clear to me, apart from the offer you provide the first time.
    Would you suggest only making it 2 lists? Checkout and Newsletter (which includes signups)?

    • @emailexperts
      @emailexperts  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would suggest making the 3 lists, but you don't HAVE to use them at the start. Just make sure you incldue them in your main segment. That way in the future if you want to have another list, you have it, and you won't need to adust the rules of your segment.

    Hi! Thanks for the great video! Complete newbie here but have learnt so much from your videos. We have only 1 list, have only just redirected checkout signups to one list and offer signups to another. How do you separate/ clean up the old list to create 3 lists as you recommend? How often do you recommend list cleaning, any tips on how to do it? Also, would you recommend deleting the suppressed profiles completely or just filtering them out in segments?

    • @helinu1
      @helinu1 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why does Klaviyo only recommend a single main list? I reached out to Klaviyo support to enquire about active profiles and asked if I should segment people who agreed to marketing and they told me not to worry about it but only exclude suppressed profiles. Upon more research, I read that active profiles include both subscribers and profiles added by general engagement. Would you ever recommend sending marketing emails to the profiles added by general engagement? I doubt that's a good practice? Thank you and sorry for so many questions!

    • @emailexperts
      @emailexperts  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there, sorry for the delay in responding. We recommend separate lists and a segment to combine them, but you definitely could use a single list if you like.
      If you use separate lists, it allows you to set up different welcome series emails for different signup sources, and assess performance and list growth of different signup sources.
      Ultimately, it's up to you. I have seen even large brands do okay with a single list, but it's just a bit messier.
      You are correct that you *can not legally email those profiles added by general engagement*, while Klaviyo technology will allow it, it is your legal responsibility to ensure that you are following the relevant consent laws.

      @@emailexperts Thank you so much for your reply and confirming that I am finally getting there with Klaviyo!! I would love to find out your recommended timing for 3rd email in the abandoned cart flow? We have currently set them up as 30 minutes, 20 hours and 3 days. Also to separate the existing list, would you just export the active list segment (made from the Main list) and then filter by email signups (so they have consent, not just engagement) and upload it to the checkout signups? This way when we do the segments for email campaigns we can use only checkout and website signups in the filters and we know that all people who belong there have agreed to receive email marketing. Thank you :)

    1. Is Mailchimp audience and Klaviyo list is the same thing ?
    2. Supose Klaviyo has 4 list. So if I do a segment it will be applied for 1 list or all list?

    • @emailexperts
      @emailexperts  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      1. Not quite. In MailChimp, each audience is siloed. In Klaviyo, anyone in multiple lists has the same profile.
      2. If you do a segment, it will pull from all lists. If you want to make a segment from just one list then make the rule “is in list X” AND whatever rule you want.

  • @maryyy5551
    @maryyy5551 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi, thanks so much for the video! When you are doing the segments, why do you add the condition of people having to belong to the lists? Aren't the segments built on the basis of your whole database? Just a detail! Thanks.

    • @emailexperts
      @emailexperts  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Mar yyy, great and important question! Klaviyo collects *all email addresses* even those who are not subscribers. For example, customers go through the checkout, and you're not allowed to email those who don't consent to marketing emails; it's illegal to email them marketing messages. So they are email addresses but NOT subscribers.
      To follow the law, you need to manage marketing permissions. You could tag them with "$consent" = "email", but it's difficult to make sure all of your database signup methods have that field.
      Instead, we recommend you use Lists to track marketing permissions. For this reason, you *must must must* have the condition of belonging to a list if you plan to email them marketing messages.
      If you don't include them, you can still sync them to Facebook audiences (see our recent video on that), but you cannot email them.

    Where do I get the people for the checkout list? Am I updating all the list manually?

    • @emailexperts
      @emailexperts  ปีที่แล้ว

      When you set up the Shopify integration, you choose a list to connect it to. Then, whenever someone subscribes at the checkout (they select the checkbox to accept marketing), they will be added to the checkout list.
      With this set up, you won't need to manually upload any lists; everything will flow in automatically.
      Great question, thanks!

    • @khalilbeamon
      @khalilbeamon ปีที่แล้ว

      @@emailexperts oh okay. But you can only choose one list. So I choose either newsletter or checkout sign ups correct?

    • @emailexperts
      @emailexperts  ปีที่แล้ว

      Correct, the way I recommend it, is that 'Newsletter' shouldn't be connected to anything, it's just to have it there, in case you want to import subscribers from another source and they should still receive emails.
      Remember; Lists are not for sending, *only send to Segments*, and have a 'main' segment that collects all of your lists.

      @@emailexperts thank you so much sir. I have one more question. I accidentally imported all of my historical data in my Klaviyo so all my Shopify subscribers transferred to my Klaviyo. Do you suggest I make a segment only consisting of the profiles that subscribed on my Shopify? Then adding it to my main list? I don’t know if I messed up my profile list.

    If I have more than three lists -- I have a lot because I started setting everything up before fully understanding how to use Klaviyo -- can I combine them? For example, I've got lists for signups based on where they entered but it seems I can accomplish this better with segments. Or it's not needed at all? Thanks!

    • @emailexperts
      @emailexperts  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Amy, great question. Pretty much everyone starts this way, it’s very normal, so don’t feel bad. Yes you can combine the lists.
      1. Start with a list you don’t want anymore.
      2. Export all email addresses as CSV (you don’t need any other fields, I’ll explain why)
      3. Import the CSV of email addresses into the list you want to merge them into
      4. Delete the old list
      The reason you only need to import the email address (and not any other field) is that the subscribers don’t get deleted or created throughout this process. They are just re-associated with the new list, and the email address is the unique identifier. I hope this makes sense.

    Can we do a segment for people who have been on our site to browse and did not purchase or did not subscribe to the newsletter?

    • @emailexperts
      @emailexperts  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Sabrina, yeah this is a great segment to make.
      1. Firstly, you need to make sure your "Active on site" metrics are tracking properly.
      2. Once they are tracked, you include the rules "Something someone has done" "Active on site" "At least once" "in the last X days".
      AND
      "Placed order""zero times""in the last X days".
      For those who didn't subscribe to the newsletter, you probably won't be able to detect their browsing behaviour because the cookie won't have been initialised for those individuals, and you won't be legally allowed to email them. You can sync them as a FB Audience though.

      Hi @@lorsky18 , so the easiest way to do this would be to either (a) use smart sending, help.klaviyo.com/hc/en-us/articles/115002779311-Guide-to-Smart-Sending-in-Klaviyo or (b) in the audience segment, use the rule "Something some has or has not done" "Received email" "zero times" "in the last 2 days" (or however many days you want to filter from).
