(097) Multipoint Lock Failing or Door Alignment ?

We often get calls from customers who have problems locking their Upvc or Composite door and to determine whether the problem is the multipoint lock or a door alignment we ask them to lock the door whilst it is open if the lock works ok then both the customer and ourselves know the problem is the alignment of the door. If the door will still not lock then its a new multipoint lock or centre case that is required.

Great tip there Derek. The only mulltipoint locking mechanism I come across here is in security screen doors. I like your idea of the lipstick to help detect the issue, cheers

Good advice Derek, whenever our door gets dodgy it’s always been one of the keeps that’s worked loose, I couldn’t lock it the other day & found it was one of the keeps, it only had one screw holding it & that screw was loose.

Simple advice but easily missed if you don't know how. We all have door stories so here's mine. Just had brand new patio doors fitted at the back of the house and the main opening door is really stiff to open and close. Getting people back to fix is difficult. I know it's just adjusting the hinges to raise the door.... I must have a go before the Mrs complains one more time she can't get into the back garden 🤣👍

Thanks for watching Roy check to see the bottom of the door in case you have a shoot bolt fitted it could be this. Alternatively get some lipstick on all the hooks and rollers close the door and you will find out from the lipstick which one or all of the hooks is hitting the keeps.

The problem with my door is the hooks don’t fully lock into side slots. Any help i would be grateful.

Thanks for your comment. Mark the hooks with some lipstick so you can see where they are hitting the keeps then adjust the keeps if you can.
