I soooo appreciate having found your channel 😀 I'm in one of the Illinois camping groups with you, and your videos are such a great help in deciding on what park(s) I want to camp at, and being able to see the sites beforehand extremely helpful, before making a reservation then arriving only to be disappointed once there... That happened to me at Chain O Lakes this past summer, they guy I spoke to over the phone before I made my reservation suggested a site that he said was everything I was looking for, only to find out that it was the complete opposite! 😡 Thankfully the owner just happened to show up, and he gave me a host site instead 🥰
Thank you for the comment. I'm pretty low tech but I figure it doesn't take much to give people a general idea of what the campground and campsites look like before they make reservations. The Illinois State Park system is extremely lacking in that aspect.
I can't honestly give you guidance on that without knowing what you like. If I was going somewhere to fish then without a doubt Kankakee. You can fish at Illini but Kankakee is way better. Same goes for if I wanted to enjoy local restaurants or stores. If I wanted to be on the river where I could watch the river or see barge traffic then Illini without a doubt as Kankakee offers neither from the campground. Tell me what you're looking for and I'll try to give you the best possible answer.
@@midwestcampingfamily thanks for the quick reply. Car camping with a tent. Just looking for a nice setting/quiet, etc. We live in Lemont so it’s pretty much same distance to either park.
@@georgevranas498 they are honestly both great options. Personally I like the campground at Illini better but Kankakee is a better area for restaurants as well as grocery and other stores. I think you'd be happy at either though. Are you bringing children with you? If so Kankakee River is a river they could walk around in near shore flipping over rocks and finding crayfish in, Illini has a nice playground and an ice cream shop in the campground (I believe they have reopened after a remodel) and a community pool a short drive away.
Thanks for the tour. Cant find anything online related to a camping map. Much appreciated
You're very welcome. Glad to hear my video helped you in picking your campsite. Hope you have a great trip.

Do you prefer Illini or Kankakee?
