  • Giant City State Park campground is a very well maintained campground that is probably the cleanest Illinois state park and campground I've been to. Little Grassy Fish Hatchery is a short drive a way and a fun place to visit for kids or outdoor enthusiasts, and you are basically in the middle of the Shawnee Hills Wine Trail consisting of 11 different local wineries. There is also a newer splash pad in Carbondale and various really good hiking trails within the state park. I highly recommend this campground.

You're welcome. Glad you found it useful and thank you for the comment. I'll probably never have enough subscribers to have TH-cam pay me for doing these but the comments and knowing I'm helping people pick their campsites make it worthwhile.

14:40 i just went on labor day weekend and yes the shower cap is still off😂. Your video helped me choose site 60 on a roof top tent configuration and we loved that park. Thanks for the great info.

@@mrsteel10213 glad to hear you enjoyed the campground and that you found my video helpful in picking your site. Thanks for giving me feedback. I don't get paid anything for this so it's 100% done solely in an attempt to help people and it's good to hear the videos help.

Thank you for taking the time to let me know. I love hearing my videos helped people choose to stay at one of our state parks and/or helped them choose a particular campsite. I hope you enjoy Giant City as much as we did. Safe travels (and if you might be interested the fish hatchery right down the street is a fun, convenient and free place to stop and check out as well)

I have been to most Illinois state parks north of I-80. As well as Starved Rock Matthison and Kanakee River which are just south of I-80. I have not been to any this far south.

Yeah, I've been to all of those you mentioned too. (I live in Crete IL so they are all fairly local to me and I'm always in the Kankakee area). You're missing out if you aren't exploring the rest of the state.

Does the tent camping area have vehicle access to the actual campsite or is parking along the main road and you just walk out to the site?

Just parking along the main road. It wouldn't be a long walk to any of the sites though.
