- A few tips to help you in buying a used ATV from a dealer or private seller!
Recap:
1:Does it run/how does it run?
2:Does it drive fine and go through the gears?
3:Does it have a title? (Clean, signed or open)
AND does the vin on the bike match.
4:Any leaks, or smoke? Does everything work as it should?
5:How tight are the bearings/bushings? (Move front and rear wheels from side to side)
6:What is the price compared to others in similar condition and how much is needed to make it solid?

You know your stuff... I knew it when you talked about Hondas and ring issues. I learned my lesson by earning my lesson on that one. A really old guy cooked the s#it outta me with the low oil trick on a Honda. I'm in Detroit, he was in Lincoln Park.

This video was very helpful Thankyou. I’m looking to get my first quad and don’t really know much about maintenance and all that yet. There’s a listing on Craigslist for a Yamaha raptor 700 for 1,500 dollars (which seems like a pretty good deal) and he says there’s nothing wrong with it and he has the title. What do you think I should do?
Bryce K I would say that is most likely a scam. Be careful with Craigslist I see so many scammers on the daily. Some ways to tell are if the deal seems too good to be true, for example that raptor 700 is typically around 3500-4500 and he’s selling for 1500 it’s most likely a scam. Just do your research before buying anything.
My quad when I start it and go to rev it. It turns off and I'm wondering what that is 🤔
The carburetor needs to be cleaned
First time buying one looking at a Honda 400 ex do you know like what year will be good or and problems
So the Honda 400 ex’s overall are very solid and reliable however older Honda’s are plagued with brake issues so make sure they work good and most of them smoke so just make sure the bike is cold when you get there and make sure u let it fully warm up and give it a few good revs to make sure it’s not smoking out the exhaust. Never owned one honestly, google will be your best friend just type in 2013 grizzly 700 common issues and that should give you a good starting point. Just like any other machine make sure to thoroughly check it over make sure it starts easy and runs good, make sure 4x4 engages, check the oil and coolant etc
are 2004 Kawasaki kfx 400 any good going to go look at one here pretty soon the guy had for 3500 amd drop it 2800 on the pic looks nice wat tou think
Great bikes, powerful for a 400. They like to eat cylinder heads/valves though. Make sure it’s cold when you get there and starts easy.

I’d say a rancher 420 would be your best bet around that price. They’re fuel injected, have enough power and they come 4x4 or 2x4 depending on your needs.

I just traded fora 99 sportsman. Ran great for a month, just a little rich. Yesterday is starting bogging and died, wouldn't restart. Could it be a carb issue?

@@tonymunoz7400 from what I can tell so far, it was the carb. My etc switch is a little weird too so I may change it at some point to get a better idle

Thoughts on what to look specifically on a raptor 700?
Most atv’s are same deal make sure it’s cold when you get there to check it out not already warmed up, check bushings in front end and axle bearings in rear shake bike back and forth front and rear, make sure check engine light isn’t on, those will flash with the key on to tell u what the code is if there’s an issue. Just start it ride it make sure no leaks make sure fan kicks on take it through all gears make sure reverse works etc.

What are your opinions on a yfz450??
So I’ve owned about 10 YFZ450’s over the years. They’re awesome bikes whether you get the carb or fuel injected model. They’re fast bikes when you start to modify them and when you tune the carb or get a programmer on the EFI models to get rid of the bog they all have, they’re very responsive. If you buy one used, make sure you bring someone with you who knows them, they can be expensive to fix/repair if they need internal engine work. Also if you’re going to go with a carb model, try to get a 07-08. The 04-06 had oiling issues and would lock the crank up in the motor from lack of oil. I’ve had plenty of 04-06 with no issues but just something to keep in mind.

What are your opinions on a 1985 Polaris trailboss?
Honestly there’s better bikes for around the same price but if you can get it for a good deal they’re not bad just kind of a bigger heavier bike and it’s 2 stroke I prefer the 4 stroke quads for trail riding and reliability.

@@cssc5576 if you can find one for a good price I’d recommend a Honda 250ex. Great all around bikes and very reliable. Bayous aren’t horrible but not the best option for a first quad.

I have a Yamaha 660 and i cant go over 30 because it shuts off and backfire the carbs looks clean what else could be wrong? It does have snorkels all r sucking only one is pushing out
Sounds like valve clearances possibly. May need to shim the valves. Also check and make sure your float height in the carb is adjusted correctly, if your machine is modded make sure it’s been jetted for the mods. You can also check the spark plug and see if it’s black like it’s running to rich or white like it’s too lean. Good luck 👍🏽
