What I most appreciated about this movie was how it clearly showed that war is war, that is, that rebels fighting against a military force must... fight. So from the average person’s perspective - who usually want to just be left alone - they’re all deadly.
In many ways this felt more like a war movie than any other Star Wars movie. It felt more like a WWII story than anything else.

One of the best Star Wars movies ever. And we see why: careful planning, lot of respect for the franchise from Director and production crew and passion for great story telling.

Actually the battering ram tactic of the hammerhead isn't a tactic from an actual battering ram, but from the Greek ships called Triremes. Those ships would row full speed into the side of another ship to make it sink.

Felicity Jones' Jyn Erso is a thousand times more interesting than Daisy Ridley's Rey from Force Awakens. I wish we had her instead in a main trilogy.
given that felicity jones's characters story has been old from almost birth to definite death, there is unfortunately zero chance of ever seeing her in that role again. which is the most tragic thing about the movie.
Rey was a Mary Sue in every sense. Jyn really wasn't. I'm probably gonna regret saying that because someone's gonna attack me.

Rogue One is my favorite Star wars film since Empire strikes back - I knew it was good when as I was watching it I realised I had a big smile on my face. And then I looked across to my brother and mother and saw they were smiling too .... but boy it was a long wait to really enjoy a SW film again.

Donnie Yen is bigger than just the Chinese Box office. I hate that y'all are playing him and Jiang Wen like they weren't the best thing about this movie. Like they were just fillers for the Asian market. Their roles were very important and played phenomenally.

FYI. The Chinese saving the day was the story line from the book that the movie "the Martian" is based on. It was not an appeasement move to satisfy the Asian movie market.

Great breakdown vid! ... couple other micro-things: my fave line in R1 is Vader warning Krennic not to choke on his own ambitions. That's a mutation of Leia's line to Tarkin in the original Lucas SW book: "Foolish men often choke on their own delusions". And another possible THX-1138 nod: the dancer/holo-porn... (ahem) utilized by Duvall's character
This was excellent. I started watching it saying, "eh, I'll watch 5 minutes of it." Then suddenly I had watched 47 minutes of it--it was that interesting!

I found Jyn and Cassians death on the beach reminded me so much of Tea Leoni's final moments with her dad in "Deep Impact." It was almost identical in emotional impact and the way it was shot.. A very good death scene.
I was impressed with the movie in so many ways. The fact that they all died, really made the story have a hard hitting emotional impact. Of course we all knew they had to die so they were absent from Eps 4, 5 and 6.
Watching this in 2024 is such a trip. this video is like a time capsule

Technically, the Hammerhead ships in SWTOR and KOTOR were a different class of ship...larger and designed as warships, as opposed to these later and smaller more freighter designs. The SWTOR ones were Thranta-class corvettes, I believe. But yes, they are definitely closely related.

I'm not sure "a huge, complex trend" is strictly accurate when describing a pretty simple fact - Chinese audiences like seeing Chinese actors, and the Chinese market is enormous.

The " Blacksaber" reference could also be attributed to the Kevin J Anderson novel "Darksaber" Where the Death Star super laser was mounted in a cylindrical craft, which resembled a Lightsaber.
I would bet anything that when we hear "General Syndulla" called over the intercom on Yavin that it is in fact Hera they are referring to. Especially given the fact that we do see Chopper in the background there too. And I also bet that the series Rebels will end with what's left of the Rebel crew from the show going off to fight in the battle of Scarif. We'll end up seeing the battle of Scarif from the Rebels cast perspectives. In my opinion, that would really be a perfect way to end that show too.
We do know that Rex survives the show Rebels because he is in ROTJ as confirmed by Dave Filoni, but as for the fates of the rest of the cast, I have no clue. Having said that, I do think that Ezra survives the Rebels series because I truly think the character that Benicio del Toro is playing in The Last Jedi is Ezra.
So many cool backstories and trivia that is completely left out from the films and games.

I have lived on only 3 star wars movies for the last 40 years, and am SO glad that The Force Awakens and Rogue one have been so great. But I truly feel sad for a couple of my friends and SO many others that simply cannot find enjoyment in the latest movies... Force Awakens was made for us and I still tear up everytime I see the first Millennium Falcon sequence. When I hear people complain that TFA was just another remake and were disappointed, I sort of agree with the similarities, but its a new story based on the old magic that captivated my imagination and my heart. I simply love The force awakens, and rogue one, but one of my only gripes about Rogue One is the mildly disappointing soundtrack. But after I heard that the composer only had 4 weeks to complete it...and it wasnt John Williams, I understand. However in TFA I loved the score, especially Reys Theme. Okay, enough rambling. Great work again guys!

You missed the Ghost. In the background of the movie at 17:26 in the far upper left corner, you can see the front of the Ghost from Star Wars rebels. Which makes sense since we see Chopper and we hear them call for "General Syndulla." But this also means when they call for General Syndulla it was probably Hera.

Midiclorianers are not that stupid. A galaxy-wide republic does not believe in a "mystical thing called force that is in every lifeforms", no, the senate needed facts, scientific facts. So, the science explored that "force" and they could describe it scientifically with the midiclorians, which eventually even the Jedi accepted as a unit, to describe the force.

This film is maybe one of my very fave Star Wars films... of the 3 different ears. Like, origional will always be Jedi. Prequels... always be Ep2 Clones. Disney, Rogue One. Nothing they can do can outdo that. :-)

Ok so Jyn’s necklace was a kyber crystal pendant, Lyra not force sensitive but a force believer, in fact the reason that the whole “Lyra is a Jedi” was scrapped was so people didn’t think that Jyn could be a Jedi.
