you seem like an honest and problem solving mechanic I like that and we need more mechanics like you and not the ones who just assume and change parts without getting the problem fixed
This just happened to me at similar mileages. I'm on my last leg. No job, no money, just got done with an interview that is a strong possibility. Then my car dies. Now its back up. Just cleaned the throttle body and now its working. Thanks a ton. I owe you.
My 2011 Altima had the same problem with the same code. After 2 visits to the dealership, they couldn't fix it. I cleaned the throttle body and it's fix!!! Thank you so much Eric. Keep up the good work!!!
In a word: you do a conscious repair. It seems like you can sense the vitals in the engine, and from there your approach ends in a definitive fix. Congrats my friend.
I enjoy your diagnosis process. I just got a new Autel scanner . So your use of it will help me see all that it can do. Your approach really makes me think that codes can lead you to testing and not jumping to conclusions too quickly. Thanks so much for your abilities and great explanations !!!
You are without a doubt the best troubleshooting/maintenance site out there! No frills, highly competent, and you don't waste time in shameless self-promotion -- You don't need to self-promote, your work and presentations skills speak for themselves - Awesome!!!
One of the best videos out there, most mechanics would have replaced the sensor, then put in a air filter, then a fuel filter, then a fuel pump. After that didn't work they would check the coils, the distributor ,then change the oil and filter.then change the catalytic converter, and finally the muffler and TELL THE CUSTOMER >>>>IT" MUST BE THE MUFFLER BEARINGS that's the ONLY thing left, but the parts dept is out of them right now,we had a lot of these models come in lately just like yours.
Great job explaining the problem and taking us through the details of MAF sensor, throttle body cleaning, checking and resetting codes. Also, please explain how to reset codes after the job is done in a keyed-ignition so that it covers all models. Thanks much for saving a whole bunch of money and learning a new skill. Keep it coming!!
Thank you. I have a 2011 Altima that started throwing this code. I have cleaned sensor best I can. Changed air filter. Still get it. Comes and goes. Idle seems funny during slow movement as well. I will clean the throttle area as you did. Again, thank you.
These types of sensors cannot be cleaned unfortunately as the sensor itself is barried inside the enclosure box, what you see on the outside is the temperature sensor.
Had my MAF and camshaft position sensor replaced on my 02 (2.5L), was not the issue, a lot of labor and parts in cost, the issue has returned. I personally am thinking more towards throttle body. This video is a very great perspective for this repair process regardless of year. It defines a simple code that is in relation to another component. Specifically related to Nissan vehicles, the code does not source the actual component issue. Great video.
I have a sentra too. My issue with stalling came with a bad PCV valve. It was exactly the same issue. Vehicle would start and then shut off. No amount of cleaning the throttle body fixed the issue, even replacing camshaft and crankshaft sensors didn’t work. Replaced the MAF sensor too, still did the same thing - kept stalling. It’s the PCV valve, that’s your fix. Cleaning the throttle body is a temporary fix, you need a permanent fix. I am the owner of 2014 sentra, this car has put me through a wringer with its issues. The only easy part is that it’s cheaper to fix, never mind the other more expensive cars. I maintain it as much as I can, my wallet is almost empty, but it’s still breaking. I don’t know what is the problem, but I might have to dump it to scrap heap if this continues. The good news are is that it’s not burning oil currently, so I am good, at least for now. Will see what happens in the next 50000 miles.
Very clear and precise video. Mine is rough idle while stopped. Jumping from 650 back to 500 then back. Consistently. No check engine light. No codes. Also having an issue starting only after it's been off for a few hours. Cleaned the Mass Air Flow Sensor. Cleaned throttle body. Any ideas? Thank you!
@@BillSW Nope. So far have changed, plugs, coil packs, camshaft sensor, crankshaft sensor,. Ran sea foam fuel injector and fuel system cleaner through it. I can tell you that it's slowly getting worse. Sometimes when it starts now it sounds like it's starving for fuel but it always does start. And no problems driving once it starts. Fuel economy is good pick up is good. I can also smell fuel after it starts. Seems to be pointing to possibly one or two bad fuel injectors. The car is just not getting the fuel and needs to start up right away. Of course if they were faulty fuel injectors I would notice it in the performance.
Since it only gives me trouble starting when the car is cooling down it says something to me about a temperature sensor. Possibly the fuel temperature sensor. Who knows at this point. I'm not even sure if the rough idle and the delayed start is even connected.
Just wanna say thank you for this video I have the same car my car wouldn’t stay on at all I did what you did and now my car runs and stays on so thank you
GREAT VIDEO.. I WORKED ON A NISSAN ALTIMA 2016 52,000 MILES WITH THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM ... BUT IT WAS THE MAF PROBLEM, CLEAN MAF WITH CRC MAF CLEANER AND BLOW DRY WITH COMPRESS AIR. AND I ALSO CLEAN THE AIR THROTTLE PLATE. ( BUTTERFLY) RELEARN CAME BACK TO IDLE SPEED AFTER DRIVEN ABOUT 25 MILES ON THE HIGHWAY. THANKS
did the same repair. Got a new Mass sensor, new air filter, cleaned throttle and reprogramed it, the car feels better but i can still feel its missing power. Sometimes when i acelarate a little misfire shaking happens. but my sparks plugs and coils are new. Its driving me crazy because i cant solve this problem. Any more suggestions amigo?????
Thank you so much your video helped me a lot I have a 2000 Nissan Sentra SE 2.0 and I was having the same problem I cleaned it did the one two step 10 second step and I work thank you so much 👌👍👍🙏🙏🙏
I'm surprised this turned out the way it did. When you booted the scan tool I was wondering about IAC counts and fuel trim, speculating that a vac leak was causing too lean a mixture when at idle, pushing IAC closed (if it has one). If air bypasses the MAF it would underestimate the volume of air and offer less fuel, improving when air flow increases with WOT. I suppose it might also cause MAF reading below range. I was wrong, presumably the lean mixture of a vac leak would throw a lean code as well. Maybe the dirty throttle body didn't let air down the IAC passageway so the IAC couldn't compensate enough to maintain idle.
This vehicle doesn't have an iac. The electronic throttle body allows a minimum amount of air flow during idle. But when it gets dirty enough, air can not flow to keep the engine running. Thanks for watching!
Good luck,ur tutorial is clear God bless my friend I'm always Watching u by the way Sir, I would like to ask,my car 6cyl rpm not mo ving n stalling. of my car 6 clyde rpm stalling n RPM not work,

Could I relate to this Video if my 2017 Nissan Altima SR is stuck at 1 RPM? Car goes no higher than 45 MPH but RPMs go really high on the accelerator press.
Just found/subscribed to your channel a couple of days ago and been binge watching your videos. I really like your down to earth attitude and the fact that your videos aren't too long going on and on into multiple parts nor are just 2 mins long with super fast talking LOL My only minor suggestion would be to turn the background music down it's more distracting than the impact wrench :) Great content!
Just subscribed!! Good video, easy to understand!! The reference info at the end is PRICELESS. That range info (for me ) is hard to find and is needed to properly diagnose, THANKS !!!
I just had a 2014 nissan versa with the p0101. Fuel trims were pegged rich and car would barely idle. Most times it would start and stall. Mass air sensor was replaced by the customer but same issue. Cleaned the throttle body and car ran perfect
I have an 05 trailblazer 4.2 I6, battery died and replaced it, then started having this same issue where it would stall out during idle and had to keep my foot on the gas to avoid this happening. A bit of throttle body cleaner did the trick, then reset the learn procedure and your good to go.
THis is a constructive comment. One of the fixes is to check the air filter. I did not see you do that. Also the vehicle has over 91,000 miles. It was due for a throttle body cleaning! All said you did not throw parts at it. Good Job.
Glad I could find your video, instant follower. Question for you: Do you think that this gunk you cleaned in the throttle was due to a design flaw of the EGR system? I read somewhere that this engine recirculates a small portion of the exhaust back into the manifold, and the input his is right after the MAF. Any thoughts? Should Al Sentra have this cleanse as a preventative maintenance?
I definitely check out the air filter first before checking anything are electrical. On my Mazda 3 Sport the engine light comes on steady. I was shock my air filter were all full of black dirt, candy wrapper, amd a peanut. shell. After replacing the air filter, & blow clean the intake air box with a leaf blower. Check for loose airflow connection with everything seems fine and tight afterwards. Start the engine and seem to run steadily and smoothly. Then erase the engine trouble code . Drive for a week or more while observing the engine light if it on again.
Hie. So I am in Zimbabwe, and have the Nissan Sylphy (I suppose its the same as Sentra in USA)2006 model. It has the same stalling issues when car decelerates, and is only able to start if you are pressing the accelerator. On top of that, it has a groaning sound that is heavy on acceleration from 0-40 km/hr, and is silent at higher speeds.
Thanks for another great walk through. Also, that's a great idea including the "reference screen" at the end -- is there a forum or website that has that type of info freely available?
So tip for next time. If you leave the shifter in drive with the key on engine off and hold the gas pedal open to wot with a long prybar etc you won't need to push on the throttle blade and possibly damage the gears in the throttle.
Awesome video! Having this problem with my wifes 2014 Sentra. I'm afraid to try the throttle body by myself without the program. Is it something I can do if I follow the 2 second, 10 second deal?
My Nissan 2017 200NV 2.0L(89K Mi) just stopped running last night(at 60 mph) 100 miles from home. It turns over, chugs, or runs a few seconds, similar to this Nissan. Fuel line pressure seems strong. When it runs a few seconds smells real rich. Will try cleaning T-body but it must be more going on. Any suggestions appreciated.
Thank you for the great video. So, which was the most effective fix, the 3X relearn procedure on the throttle body or actually cleaning the throttle nozzle itself?
Good video, nice work. Stop apologizing-workplace noise is okay, like background music, it's okay. Also put the explanation about no IAC valve on this model in your video. Good information to know and pass along. All around good video, cheers.
Very nice. You are correct in that majority of shops would have replaced MAF sensor. Would you say that this vehicle must have been running poorly for a while, and the inability to idle was last straw?
Question: Would the throttle body and/or mass air flow sensor cause a tachometer to jump during acceleration? Every time I get to around 20-35 mph the rpm jumps from 1500 to 3000, then drops back to normal. After that it's fine, but happens each time I stop and then start again. At idle, the needle dips a few times like it wants to stall, but doesn't. Let me know when you can.
Eric I’ll been watching your videos the very explainable and detailed to bad your in texas not in Orlando I have learned alit from these videos keep up the good work I guess your working from you new house now only god knows why you had to move from your shop god bless
Hi Eric, very nice video. Thank you. Just have one question, I have a 2015 Suzuki Alto RS Turbo with drive-by-wire throttle system. I have this idea to remove all the pipes of the throttle and clean the butterfly thingy with carb cleaner. If I do that, do I have to connect a scan tool and do that re-learn value thing? I got abit scared when i saw this video since i do not have a scan tool. Please advise.
great job you are doing keep that grate job and thaks for the information also, i just would like to know what maxisist are you using? and thak you again
A nice video very informative I have a 2014 Sentra with the 1.8 to now I know if this code comes and I take it to the dealership or a regular mechanic I can ask questions on the problem and how they fix it and se if they are over charging and another thing can you tell me the brand and model of your scan tool it will be nice to buy one or what other you recommend
what was the charge for that service ...i got a 2002 se-r 2,5l 4cyl and i changed the mass air flow sensor just to improve the drive ..the service soon light came on ..it has not re set on it's own ..the idle runs up and down to a near stall ..i have not touched the throttle body ..and it ran ok before but this fix has not worked for me ..ummm when i clear the code will it make the car idle safe again ..btw ..the car drives and idels fine in gear ..but it's in a limp home mode i think ..will i need to reset the throttle body just to replace the maf sensor ..idk ..can i put the old one back ..will it idle the same with that or have i done something else ..lol..

Nice job of investigating. Most shops would've just thrown a new MAP sensor at it (at the customer's expense) and hoped for the best
In this case "SR" stands for stalls regularly!

The funny thing is the possible causes for the code on the website didnt include dirty throttle body lol good video
This reminds me of GS430 case, Air does matter in drivability. Thank you for sharing your insights.
i think there is a bulletin now for pcv valve to be changed as well

what was the charge for that service ...i got a 2002 se-r 2,5l 4cyl and i changed the mass air flow sensor just to improve the drive ..the service soon light came on ..it has not re set on it's own ..the idle runs up and down to a near stall ..i have not touched the throttle body ..and it ran ok before but this fix has not worked for me ..ummm when i clear the code will it make the car idle safe again ..btw ..the car drives and idels fine in gear ..but it's in a limp home mode i think ..will i need to reset the throttle body just to replace the maf sensor ..idk ..can i put the old one back ..will it idle the same with that or have i done something else ..lol..
These vids are awesome!
So interesting watching the process!
