This was right on time. Was feeling like Networking wasnt for me because its getting "hard" and questioning my ability but I journaled it out lol and must keep it pushing. Nothing worth having comes easy.
@@BytesAndBalance I’ve been through that phase many times and everything else looks more interesting than networking and you start to second guess your decision. The funny part is if you end up switching you’ll probably go through that same feeling again 😭
I started studying the CCNA in April of 2022. Even took a break in July and went back in. Finished in October 2022. Used Jeremy’s IT Lab. Did not take the test until December 2023. Big gap right? Good reason for it. Never felt I was ready to take the test. I went through his lessons twice. I redid labs and also did the boson labs, twice. Did all the practice tests as well. I wanted to have thorough understanding of the theory of what I was learning. People try to rush through this and find it extremely difficult.
In my late 30s I went for a masters degree in computer science. Finished with 3.95 GPA. Did a software engineer career accelerator after that. Applied to over 2,000 jobs in a year. Couldn't find one. Gave up. Not sure how to break in. Not sure what path to take. Would take any...
@@EzraSchroeder software engineering is the most competitive field. Did you get any internships during your masters program? Also did you connect with any career fairs in your university?
Great analysis here. Looking back at things when I first started learning, I pulled myself in so many different directions to the point where I understood a tiny bit of a bunch of things but didn’t know enough in any of those things to actually be productive. As a mid level backend engineer now, I learn what I know I need to and know that I can pick up any gaps along the way.

Exactly, you need to always need to make sure you don’t fall off since it’s usually a slow process so always make sure you’re being consistent. Also join our discord sever if you ever need anything!
Facts! I was on track to get the CCNA until I got c*vid. Then, I got a respiratory infection. Ever since then, I've been off and on like you described.
I think what I'm gonna do now is, after binge watching the Olympics thru the 11th, minimize my day job which is non-technical to do the bare minimum I possibly can. Then work on a project with the pandas library or if that one's not available choose the easiest one I can find in Python only (easiest programming language). Bill at $20/hour so I can justify it. Work every waking minute 6 days a week. If I get to a point where I have no technical gigs of any kind available, then I'll try to decide on one path only & stick to it. But the reason I did a master's in the first place was because I would start a thousand things. Not two. A thousand. I needed someone to lay the path out for me. Now I just don't know how I'll find a path...
How much do you work with Windows Server as a network engineer? I have been labbing it lately and am shocked at how little I would have understood pre CCNA study. But I wasn’t sure how deep the Windows rabbit hole I need to go before digging back into routing protocols that weren’t on the CCNA.
Don’t worry about windows server. Focus on CCNA/other networking technologies. The industry is moving away from windows server as a whole. Systems engineers will take care of the servers. Focus on routing and switching. If you have really strong fundamentals it will pay off even though it’s boring.
I never use windows server as a network engineer that’s more of a network admin workload. But if you work at a smaller company or office you may be required to be familiar with that.
For IT to work you have to let yourself get consumed by this whole other world. Build up that map of ideas and terminology in your head. Even once you've achieved certs, that knowledge isn't permanent. You have to reinforce it constantly, do advanced things that force you to walk through the basics again. Even a few weeks off can put you behind, you have to spend days to get back into that mode. Fortunately, this is a very enjoyable process, if you have the time and resources to let it consume you.
Just got out of Highschool plan is study for A+ do kevtech labs for helpdesk and microsoft 365 make my resume based on helpdesk and hopefully land one before i start wgu for cloud in 3 months then ill have hands on experience while studying for the big boy job is there any flaws to this plan?

Yep. I lab, and even go through the flash cards daily even months after I passed the test.
