    The Leatherman Rebar continues to be one of Leatherman's best models, whether you choose the regular model or the knifeless model really depends on your situation. Enjoy the vid, check out the links for more Leatherman!

    In sweden, there are some really REALLY hard laws against knifes.
    Despite that this is a "knifeless" tool, I still got arrested for having it on me. (In my bag). They deemed it to be "dangerous enough" just by the fact it's a fold-able "pocket tool".
    I did however get it back after it got brought up in court. I was also freed from all charges, as the judge deemed the case to "be ridiculous" and a "waste of resources". Why was a handyman like me arrested for having it in the bag? No idea.
    The point is: In sweden, you can still get arrested with this, despite it being 100% tool and completely knifeless.
    How and why did I get arrested in the first place?
    A security guard in the subway recognised the pouch I had on me, and "knew" I had to be a Leatherman knife. The pouch in question, on my belt, was empty as the tool itself was in my backpack. I always do that since it is what the "law of knifes" requires of me. (in swedish: "Knivlagen"). The security guard locked me in a temporary holding area on the subway station and called the police. He must have deemed me a dangerous person. Keep in mind that I tried to cooperate with the security guards as mush as possible. To no vein. They had a bad day and most likely wanted to channel their "bad day" on me. From thre on they searched my bag and found this "knifeless rebar"... and it all went down from there on.

    I like it! I wish they could make a serrated knifeless Wave and add a Surge scissor in its place. Imagine if they took the small scissors out of the Wave then and added a sliver gripper type tweezer?

      I’d prefer the straight blade be replaced with scissors and keep the serrated blade for when I need it because I carry a straight blade independently of my multi tool. But I’ve just got a knifeless rebar since I don’t need the knives the scissors are amazing instead!

    I live in the UK and bought one of these. There are two big negatives to anyone using the tool without gloves impo. Unlike the original, when closed the file rests directly against the base of your thumb, grates against that yummy flesh and goes rusty on account of being high carbon which you can't wipe clean of perspiration. The second is that the tools which smoothly span the handle cut outs on the regular Rebar have been replaced with tools that don't, making the handle more uncomfortable for moderate or extended use. Afaic the knifeless Rebar is a crude chop job on the original Rebar and wasn't thought through with the same care as the original. I carry a Juice in public spaces instead.

    • @ComUnSas
      @ComUnSas 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      ... is that the begining of a rusty file I see at the end of the video 12:10 😮? Edit: or maybe a bloodstain from unintentionally filing your palm whilst using the pliers?

      PS I'm not criticising your knife reviewing skills which are, obviously, awesome. I only realised my hand disliked the tool after using it for a while. I was delighted with it as much as a regular Rebar at first.

    As a reaction to 8:51 I think a little tweezers could fit that gap perfectly. Leatherman Leap for example has a build in tweezers that would do the job. The metal around the pivot point would have to be quite thin, but then the tweezers could get more robust as it would pass the lanyard loop. Combined with the already implemented scissors, it would make even more sense, as the knifeless rebar (with its solid file) could then fully replace a manicure set.

    Scratching my head at the decision to include a saw blade on this tool. One of the biggest advantages of a knifeless multitool would be that you can access areas that you can't get into with blades, like airports or stadiums or whatever. But since this has a saw blade on it, you're just going to get stopped anyway. They should have at least made the saw removable like Gerber does on their knifeless MP600, hell they have the capability to do so since they do that on the Surge.

  • @tubeularvids

    It needs the replaceable bit attachment like on the wave.

    • @simonh6371
      @simonh6371 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nah those bits aren't really serious, they are not fully profiled and according to the reviews the steel is very soft. If that's what you want fine get a Wave or other LM with the bit holder, but the fact is that the 2 Rebars, Supertool and Bond are the only Leathermans with a fully profiled Phillips driver. The 2D Phillips on the Rev, Wingman etc. and the Free series are even worse than the half bits.

    How does the rebar compare to the juice cs4 (the one you called Jan Brady)? The saw is important to me and I was set to get the juice but then seen the rebar in person and it's smaller than I thought (I haven't seen the juices in person) so I'm reevaluating, I've carried the squirt for awhile but wanted something a little bigger with a saw. The leap is 3rd place.

    • @WeAllJuggleKnives
      @WeAllJuggleKnives  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would go with the Rebar first, because of the locking tools.

  • @twowheelingnut7898

    Great channel. I stumbled across it and enjoyed the multi tool review. I have been a huge fan of Leatherman and have probably have 30 of their multi tools and 20 of their knives mainly the older knives. Interesting I don’t have a rebar. No scissors is a negative to me. The knife less one could work but not sure. I’ll get a rebar some day I am sure.
    Look forward to watching your stuff!

    Like this review of the knifeless Rebar. I hardly ever use the blade on my Rebar, and am not sure would ever feel comfortable with a bladeless multi-tool. I suppose you could travel with it in your check-on luggage, but I'd rather have my blade. Thanks for the great comparisons.

  • @simonh6371
    @simonh6371 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm with you on the need for more bladeless multitools. Here in the UK we're only allowed to carry non-locking folders (so slipjoint or friction folder) with blades under 3in, so the issue on most Leathermans isn't the size of the blade but the fact that they lock. The only full size multitool options for EDC here are therefore the Gerber MP600 bladeless, and the knifeless Rebar.

    • @simonh6371
      @simonh6371 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@davadoff Yes and I have one of those now. They weren't around 2 years ago when I wrote my comment. I like the toolset and compact form factor, plus I was able to put a pocket clip on it which is cool, butmine gets very rusty quickly, not impressed with that aspect. Even after spraying it again and again with WD40 rust just appears from nowhere. My Rebar (which I can't EDC) doesn't have the same problem. Maybe because it stays at home in the dry. But my Bond rarely gets wet, it just rusts in a pouch.

    • @davadoff
      @davadoff ปีที่แล้ว

      @@simonh6371 yeah I probably wouldn’t buy leatherman because of rust alone. Just get a victorinox spirit maybe (locking blade) or much more likely get a stainless steel Chinese multitool. Or knipex cobra & victorinox SAK would be better.

    • @davadoff
      @davadoff ปีที่แล้ว

      @@simonh6371 by the way, no one ever mentions it but comes up in a google search: try wiping on boiled linseed oil. I read when it ‘dries’ (it actually polymerises) it leaves a non sticky, non oily coating that prevents rust.

    • @simonh6371
      @simonh6371 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@davadoff I bought a LM Bond last year, it rusts for fun, even though I've sprayed it with WD40 numerous times. Also got a Rebar which rusts but not as much probably because I can't take it out of the house as it's not legal to EDC here. If I wanted a pliers based multitool I'd get a Swisstool/Spirit, but as it is I have taken to carrying the Knipex Cobra XS with a SAK.

    The Rebar is not a bad tool I like the "knifeless" one it will make the perfect companion with my Swiss Army Knife since I already own a Leatherman and a Victorinox along with a Gerber since all three comes in handy when I need them but one day in the near future I like to buy the "Knifeless" Rebar since its made by Leatherman Tools.

    They could have ditched the stupid lanyard ring as well. Turn those 2 slots into a 1/16" punch or a mini Phillips head. I can't tell you how many times I'm cleaning my AR-15 and can't get that codder pin out of my bolt carrier. Then I need to get into my toolbox to bust out the punch set.
