Loved the review. I've purchased 2 rebars and think they are under rated. Most people will just list the tools and the quality of the steel but you actually give real life use and context to each tool. You earned my sub.
I sharpened the long edge of the Awl on my Rebar.... it's my go-to for opening the tape on boxes, keeps the sticky crap off my blade. Also scrapes like a champ, perfect for taking sharp plastic flashing off of my kids toys.
Im picking up a Leatherman supertool 300 on Monday. I have been using the Gerber mp600 for years now and love it but I've never used a Leatherman. I want to see what the hype is about
I have the rebar also and it is by far the best multi tool I have. I had even purchased a wave once and I like the rebar better, I may get another someday probably black version before leathermen figures out this is driving sales from their more expensive tools
It´s a bit more expensive than the Sidekick but I might have to give this one a try. I liked the one-handed opening on the Wingman/Sidekick, and so far (it`s only been like 3 month) the Sidekick hasn`t failed me a bit. Gotta see how it holds up over the years. Anyways, great review on the Rebar, you sold this one to me, gonna get one the next time I feel the urge to buy a multitool :D
+German Survivalist (Dante Briefs) Yeah, the one hand opening is a definite selling point. I'd have a sidekick over a juice, but the construction in mine were just a bit lacking. This line, in my opinion, are less for EDC and more for tool substitution around home, car and camp. Have you played with a skeletal? Thats a great locking bladed EDC tool.
And Americans can get this as a set with the Micra for 21 dollars right now. UGH, AINT FAIR! I had one of these and liked it a lot, but I gave it away to my sister after a while. My main tool is an MP600 right now, which is not bad at all. I like it a bit more, feels more rugged and all that.
+FuttFel I know - we need to boost our dollar way back up. A few years ago, when parity aaas happening, things were great. I got a Leatherman Wave for 80 bucks. They are at least 120 everywhere now.
2023 update, and thanks to a shitty Biden economy, I picked up a brand new rebar for $84 US dollars plus about $10 in tax and shipping. Seeing that this went for $21 only seven years ago has convinced me we’re in a downward spiral.

You feel a bit of edge if squeeze hard. For normal use, not really an issue.

Gerber Suspension NXT is a cheap alternative for same uses that holds up but outside opening, sprung and no occasional pinch.
