  • Discover how easy it is to tow your F-150 Raptor. Although this video focuses on the 2017 Raptor as a "TOAD" using the Roadmaster, the system and principles to tow it can be applied to many other vehicles.

    Thank you, I'm getting ready to go on my first adventure flat towing my f150. Very helpful

      You’re welcome! Enjoy…and PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE be sure you’ve engaged Neutral Tow as well as supplied your Raptor with a 12v charger lead.

    Well done Steve, here's a tip, I use a zip tie around the electrical harness 7-pin connector cover on the coach and around the 6-pin connector cover on the toad side, This will make sure the cover and the harness connector will not come loose or detach. BTW I'm the nerd of the Ford engineer that does all the neutral tow durability testing for the F-150, Ranger, and full size Bronco. Glad you are happy with your Raptor. Safe Travels.

      Thanks for the compliment as well as the tips. Not a bad idea, although I’d be inclined to use a small Velcro strap so it could be removed quickly without a cutter. Good thought though!
      And talk about a cool job, I hope Ford is paying you to be the “Neutral Tow Engineer”!! 😉. Maybe I can apply for that job as well. 😬

      @@RVSquaredSteve, Velcro straps will certainly do the job, I will use that one. Thanks! It's a great job, currently manage our NA Proving Grounds in Romeo Michigan. My career with Ford going on 28 years now has served me very good. Yes, I'm well compensated. :)

    What adapter is needed under the hood for them to not cut vacuum lines?

    • @RVSquaredSteve
      @RVSquaredSteve  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s a special “TEE” fitting made byDEMCO.

    Question when towing and going down the road …..does the odometer still rack up miles while still being towed .i once read that you can pull a fuse or something else to eliminate mile buildup ty

    Great video. Thank you! What did you use to get the blinkers and tail lights to match the coach signals?

    • @RVSquaredSteve
      @RVSquaredSteve  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Greg. If you’re referring to the lights being “in sync” with each other, nothing needs to be done; the 12v turn signal pin on the Coach plug is what powers the TOAD’s lights.

      @greghedgpeth 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RVSquaredSteve Yes, we are preparing to setup our F-250 to be flat-towed behind our RV using a diode kit, but it has LED tail lights with the blind-spot radar (BLISS) and a little unsure if the diode / splicing into the tail light wire is the right way to go

    • @RVSquaredSteve
      @RVSquaredSteve  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@greghedgpeth yup…diodes are the preferred method. BLSS has nothing to do with the tow kit. All the diodes do, is prevent back feeding voltage into the coach, thus draining the TOAD battery. They also prevent random or malfunctioning blinkers/stoplights.

    ...As I write this, my wife and I are looking at ordering a 24 Newell coach.
    As such, i point out that for expert advice on towing, and getting the job done correctly the "first" time, may i point out NIRVC. I say this, because my wife and I plan on using their product "Retro Band" on our coach. If, you are not familiar with it, I strongly suggest you look into it.
    Now, as to correctly doing a TOAD. These services are offered by them as well. 1000's done, not many complaints.
    Just a little info. tossing out there.

      Thanks for the watch and comments. I am fully aware of NIRVC, as well as their RETTROBAND product and also the TYRONs. I’m not going to enter that discussion as it is out of the scope of this topic. It’s also not a product of safety I wish to get into due to many questions and concerns which I will leave to the individual owner.
      As to installation, that’s not the issue of towing; On-going inspection and maintenance is! You’ll see my other video discussing this. I’ve discussed almost a dozen failures in the past year or so and they have ALL been the result of baseplate failure from fatigue and/or lack of maintenance.

    I’m reading the supplement raptor manual where it says maximum speed is 35 mph maximum distance is 50 mi am I missing something?

    • @RVSquaredSteve
      @RVSquaredSteve  ปีที่แล้ว

      You're reading the section on "Emergency Towing", not "Neutral Towing" or, as it's often referred to as "Flat-Towing". Completely different in that Neutral Towing disengaged the transfer case and puts it into Neutral.

    What adapter did you use to connect to the brake booster?

    • @RVSquaredSteve
      @RVSquaredSteve  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oooo, man...FANTASTIC (and CRITICAL) question!!! Demco makes a SPECIAL TEE fitting that very simply plugs into the brake booster's sensor port!! You simply unplug the existing sensor, plug the Tee in, and then use the Tee's port for the sensor. My installer didn't realize that, and ended up butchering the plastic tubing manifold which had to replaced when I found the error. Done correctly, it's super clean and non-destructive.

    Doesn't flat tow add miles to your Raptor? I have a 2014 Raptor that I'm debating on flat towing.

    • @RVSquaredSteve
      @RVSquaredSteve  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nope...not at all. Well, not on the Odometer, that is; it's trans driven. So, since the trans is disengaged with the Neutral Tow function, the odometer never turns. You still need to be mindful of road-wear on tires, lubed joints, as well as brakes.
