  • This week, where are all the Camels. We look at everyone's favourite Severn Valley Railway station before paying our respects to a legend.
Home to the adventurous subscriber. As well as films we have a bi-weekly Vlog to keep up to date on the previous and next week’s videos, and a chance for all to air their views on a variety of subjects, why not join in.
My passion has been walking, a while ago I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s and walking does not come naturally any more, however the more I walk the easier it gets, for now anyway. I hope these videos will inspire others to keep going and hanging on in there. I try to cover variety of subjects, such as old abandoned railways, and canals. I love the Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire, with its rich history and I usually take my camera whenever we holiday in the southwest and Cornwall. The rugged coastal paths are a magnet for anyone who loves dramatic scenery. I live close to the Cotswolds Hills and have done quite a lot of walking around there, recently, following some of the lovely rivers. Hill walking on the Malvern’s is a challenge but worth the effort. I try not to let Parkinson’s get me down and take every opportunity to get out with my camera and film, I hope you enjoy watching. P.W.

Hello Ron - greetings from Poland.
I decided to stay up and watch the UK general election results. I went to bed at 2am but was up again at 6am to see the end on Sky TVs presentaion. An unbeleivable result for Labour. Enough politics.
Your garden looked fabulous - I'm very jealous. Our postage stamp at the back of house has lovingly been looked after by Mags. This summer is packed with colour, lovely smells and loads of raspberries.
Update on the kittens - now 8 weeks old, growing like you wouldn't believe and are into and up to everything. I'm positive Mags has decided to keep them, which will mean 1 dog, 5 indoor cats, 3 kittens and 4 outside cats she feeds when they decide to use our terrace as a restaurant.

Hi Michael, I tend to ignore politics, nothing ever seems to change for the better. Well done Mags, it is amazing what can be achieved in a small space with the right person.
I was tempted to conclude your 'family' roundup with 'and a partridge in a pear tree. ' Sounds like you enjoy your life Michael, well done. Ron

Mr Ron, to get such a tribute he must have been a wonderful character, of course these narrow boats the plodding and relentless freight carriers of their day, only overtaken by the railways yet still they have repurposed and survived. Hope for us yet then old chap. You are still reaching out to us with your film clips.

Your garden looks beautiful Ron. What a lot of work someone is putting in to keep it so fresh and colourful. I keep telling my daughter how nice and perfumed those Nemesias are. Falling on deaf ears so far. The older sister hasn’t been far this week. Mostly chasing up appointments in the NHS and that’s quite challenging. The older sister also says don’t ever feel the pressure of having to reply to comments. We don’t want you to stop enjoying doing what you do because of the pressure. My finger tips are numb so I use a tipped stylus pen in my right hand but that’s mostly on the iPad. The film was very moving. A gathering of family and friends on boats like that to say goodbye is not something you see normally so thankyou very much for bringing this to us.

Good afternoon Ron! I am a bit blearly eyed staying up listening to the election results (I have done this since I was about 8 years old!!) on the radio (I am more of a radio than TV sort of person), so sorry for being late!
Another lovely vlog, and thank you for the couple of mentions.
Hmm - that's a dilemma over authenticity and being clean and shiny on heritage railways. I do remember when I filmed a train on one of the heritage lines that I often feature on my channel, and the coaches outside were dirty and authentic! The comments below the video weren't too kind!! I think most heritage visitors would prefer them to be clean and shiny, but as I like authenticity, I prefer it to look like they would have looked - maybe they should have an 'authentic' weekend once or twice a year, like they do with 1940s weekend (tomorrow on the SVR!) and Thomas The Tank Engine and the like. There's a thought for their marketing teams...
Your cinema club on the Gloucester & Sharpness and Gloucester Docks was incredibly moving and quite beautiful. I think I had seen it before, but I think this included new footage, with different and very suitable and apt music to accompany it. Thank you!
    Great work Ron,
Hope you have a good weekend and week,
    Take care,
    Paul

Hi Paul ........... Paul ......... wake up Paul.
Trust Trev to give us a thorny issue to debate, I can see both sides so no good asking me.
Ben Selfe was apparently one of those larger than life characters. If he failed a boat on inspection he would often offer to help put it right. Sadly missed. Be careful out there. Ron

Hi Ron, Late to the party! Yesterday we had some business to attend to and were up early and got home just in time to watch the end of the Spain Vs Germany game.
I really don't know if I want to watch England this evening, I never seem to enjoy it, but just occasionally something memorable happens, I always think of Archie Gemmels goal against the Dutch (ok not England but I always support the British national teams) which was not quite enough but it did them proud and that's all I really want.
I wonder what Trev's going to say about today's intrusion, I don't know anyone with a gun and my only experience of weapons is making torpedoes. Perhaps if we point the torpedo tube upwards it might give him a surprise?
Your garden is looking wonderful a real tribute to the head gardener (and no doubt to the efforts of the under gardener) well done to you both!!
A wonderful tribute to Ben Selfe, amazing to see so many narrow boats on the move at the same time, it must have been quite chaotic at the docks.
I fully understand your wariness with animals. I give them a wide berth. The goats that I mentioned were on the most impossible cliff side, but it never worries them. As for me I was halfway up a reservoir dam and some distance from them. To try and allay your fears this was a really safe, wide path which presented no danger and fully open for use but it doesn't really lead anywhere ...... although there is an interesting abandoned canal at the end not a navigable one I might add, dry as a bone anyway.
I think the walking season is now at an end, yesterday the car indicated 37° mind you, on the way back, I did spot some chimneys on the horizon and made a detour to take them in!! Actually I have a chimney dilemma. We have a log burner and there is this sound coming from it as if a bird has fallen down it and can't get back up. Its not an easy job to get to it ....
"Though I spends me time in the ashes and smoke In this 'ole wide world there's no 'appier bloke"
I wish I could help it, that would make me a happier bloke.
    Have a great weekend!!

Hi David, loved your post, I've read it twice already. Good luck with the fallen bird.
Do you know any history of the canal? Sounds interesting. Be careful out there. Ron

    • @davidberlanny3308
      @davidberlanny3308 18 วันที่ผ่านมา

@@ParkinsonsWalks Hi Ron, unfortunately it's not uncommon less so on the log burner chimney because at 37° we aren't lighting any fires at the moment. Our boiler for hot water does tick over all year and when we have it serviced we often find several birds who after perching on the edge high up then get overcome by the fumes and fall down. Shame they're not bigger I might get a Sunday roast and as I type that the poor thing is still struggling away. If I try and dismantle it, the baffle weighs maybe 10 kgs cast iron, and the moment it is free it would be off into the house, I would have no way of trapping it. I don't know, maybe one of Michael's cats could persuade it back up the chimney .....

@@ParkinsonsWalksHi Ron, this canal will date back to the end of the 19th century or start of the 20th as the need for electricity grew to meet the demands of the expanding tramway system and domestic demand as well. The canal is about 6' deep and wide and clings to the contours of the hillside and where it can't do that it tunnels it's way through, some parts are literally on a precipice. At its end there is a huge header pond which is still there (and I have visited) the two large downpipes now only exist in photos as does the generating building. The guide book walked this part and I think it's still transitable but it's one to do in company. In the other direction nothing can be seen as it is well below the level of the water in the reservoir as is the tramway.

Good Morning, Ron. Playing catch up again, but for a very good reason. My good lady has been diagnosed with an early stage cancer, so I am back on the multiple trips to Cheltenham again. I shall therefore be in short supply for a while, I’ll pop in when I can and still post to my You tube channel. Just got to get her through the important first stage of treatment, until October, then it get’s a lot less stressful for the last stage (10 months).
Another very enjoyable ‘matters arising’ and the canal boat memorial was very moving. Catch up with you all intermittently until October. Keep the videos coming, Ron. 🙂👍

You had me worried Ron, I was afraid that you weren't venturing outside...what a relief you made it. Thanks for the nice visit, it's just what OVM needed, she's been upset because I don't take her swimming enough, apparently. Anyway, you took her mind off it, that is until the video started with all that water, thanks so much for the "trigger warning". It seems like only last year I was saying that I was giving the AC its annual test. Well today was the day for this year, it's on now and things are cooling down after a rather muggy day. I'll have to set a reminder to turn it off soon before the dog gets used to it and gets even more demanding. Have a good week Ron, sorry about the late submission, every day is starting to blend a bit...
