  • This week we change the format slightly and start with the Parkinson's Walks family news regaling the adventures of one of our tribe. We review Padstow in a storm and checkout the SVR at Highley. Quite a week.
Home to the adventurous subscriber. As well as films we have a bi-weekly Vlog to keep up to date on the previous and next week’s videos, and a chance for all to air their views on a variety of subjects, why not join in.
My passion has been walking, a while ago I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s and walking does not come naturally any more, however the more I walk the easier it gets, for now anyway. I hope these videos will inspire others to keep going and hanging on in there. I try to cover variety of subjects, such as old abandoned railways, and canals. I love the Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire, with its rich history and I usually take my camera whenever we holiday in the southwest and Cornwall. The rugged coastal paths are a magnet for anyone who loves dramatic scenery. I live close to the Cotswolds Hills and have done quite a lot of walking around there, recently, following some of the lovely rivers. Hill walking on the Malvern’s is a challenge but worth the effort. I try not to let Parkinson’s get me down and take every opportunity to get out with my camera and film, I hope you enjoy watching. P.W.

Disused railways certainly make great walking and cycling tracks, Ron. I think I'd still rather see trains running along them, though.

Wonderful cycle ride beside the Camel. Fresh air and car-free. The next best thing to doing the journey by rail. Looking forward to Hampton Lode explore next week.

    Hello Ron,
I was hoping to see Camels, but all I saw was a well informed polite codger on a bike with a bright orange hat. Your knees were like pistons to rival the first steam train in 1899 although you didn’t need coal. You should have attached a dog cart to your bike and then some of us less energetic people could have accompanied you. Best wishes from all your fans.

Hi Barry, I don't know how the Camel Estuary got it's name, probably a corruption of some other name, but you never know! Take care of yourself. Ron

I enjoyed that bike ride, Ron. Lots to see along the old railway line, but, a shame they closed it down. Would make a great tourist attraction, with all that lovely scenery. Warming a bit now, and fingers crossed for a bit of summer at last. Happy filming. Ron.

Hi Ron, it would have been a first class attraction, if someone had thought it out, it seems obvious to us now.
Filmed twice this week so far, problem is I'm a little rusty in more ways than one. Keep smiling. Ron

    Good morning Ron!
Another lovely Parkinsons family news roundup.
I didn't know about Michael's dog sadly passing away - but a gain with some lovely kittens.
It seems odd looking at the wind and rain now we have sun and warm weather - hopefully for a settled period!
Thank you for the mention - yes, it is an illusion with the sun in my videos! I tend not to film on rainy days, although we have plenty of them!
Another lovely cinema club. The Camel Trail is very popular these days, but that is one disused railway that I have never walked - yet! Like Jim says, it would be much used these days if trains could still take you to Padstow, but it still looks a really lovely route.
Hope both you and all the Parkinsons Walks family have a really lovely weekend.
    Take care,
    Paul

Hi Paul, I need two consecutive dry days to film, the first to dry things out a bit. You must be happy to film with every rainless day, well done.
I wouldn't recommend the Camel trail in season there must be loads of bikes around, not all of them courteous Happy filming. Ron

Hi Ron, Even tho the Trackbed appears level, when Pedalling along the Contrasts in Gradients are clearly evident, especially thru the Woods between WB and Bodmin, your Stunt double definitely earned his money that day 😉 Thanks for pointing out the Beached Schooner wreck I’ve not noticed before, also the Stunning Images & Comparisons Shown in the Vintage Photos there is so much to see here for the Curious Mind - I’m surprised you didn’t bump into Rick Stein up to his knees in Mud in the Estuary, picking Samphire for the Restaurant 😂 Brilliant Vid as Usual - We 🩵 Cornwall 🥟🏴‍☠️🏄🏻‍♂️✨

What a wonderful cycle trail. I believe it begins at Barnstaple, I remember spotting the sign at that point some years ago. That was a very pretty route you were cycling on, with all those primroses. I haven't ridden a bike for years and I'm not sure my balance would allow me to do so.
Good to see the station at Wadebridge still almost intact. Great film, Ron. Thank you.

Hello Ron - greetings from a very warm and sunny Poland. Friday morning, 08.25 and it;s already 26 degrees and climbing.
My sister has told me about the awful weather you;ve been suffering in the UK - wettest June on record she thinks!
So nice to hear from all the regular contributors. An update on the three kittens. Now nearly 6 weeks old and causing all sorts of mayhem. Their mother has decided that Mags can now take over their management!
Turning to your bike ride video, lovely to see it again. It must have been an impressive sight in its day. I can imagine holiday makers coming in and fish going out of Padstow on a daily basis.

Hi Michael, it is starting to get warm here, problem is we are not used to it, already feels too hot.
I love how the kittens mum has handed over to Mags. Brilliant.
I have recently started to cycle again, problems is I have lost my confidence.
Take care of yourself and extended family. Ron

Hello Ron no adventures this week but thank you for the lovely memories brought back from Cornwall. We cycled that route many years ago and it’s by no means flat. I liked the nice sedate pace of your cycling as some vloggers on high speed bikes leave me feeling travel dizzy in my armchair and I could enjoy the scenery. Ooh that magnificent viaduct. That same holiday we decided to train and bike to my stay with my sister and family down in Delabole on a farm. Well we got to Bodmin Parkway ok then transferred to the steam railway as far as Wenford Bridge ( I think), then biked through the lanes. Not so easy to find your way through those leafy Cornish lanes with just an ordnance survey map although it looked straightforward at home in the planning. About 2 miles from Delabole we gave up and phoned for family assistance/ the cavalry in the form of my brother in law and then could see where we had gone wrong. Like one of your other subscribers said what a wonderful trip that would be by train all the way to Padstow. The primroses were so lovely too. Thank you again and looking forward to next week.

Hi Marilyn, lovely to hear from you as always. The Camel Trail is best visited out of season otherwise it can become a little fraught we found. I loved your adventure of life before the smartphone when we used maps, I think you always enjoyed life to the full and still do. Thanks for sharing. Take care. Ron

Mornin' Ron, Always great to listen in to the comments. That must have been a mamouth trip for Marlyn, well done Big Sis!!
Its a lovely walk along the camel trail or a lovely ride anyway. Good for you for getting back on your treader (I read in another comment today). The other day I was in one of these sportshops superstores (Decathlon) and saw one of these modern electric bikes at about 2500 euros. It did look good I must say but I dont think it would get up our hill many times.
We were musing about the safety of these things yesterday as we came up to a mini roundabout where a young girl got knocked off her electric scooter. I didnt see it but apparently it happened at slow speeds so no apparent injuries (there was no need for her to be reversed over!!) luckliy she was wearing a helmet, often they don't. From what I see you dont have such great balance on these scooters compared to a bicycle. I definately wouldnt want one.
I commiserate with you on the weather its been decidely cool and stormy down here too over the last few days. Lets hope it dries out for you soon
    All the best

Hi David, just got in from the garden, everything is growing like mad especially the weeds.
I have just bought a folding bike that I can fit in the boot and hopefully get some mileage back since my walking is rubbish right now. I'm getting used to it but it is different to a normal bike as the wheels are smaller, and whereas the full size wheels have a gyroscopic effect and keep you upright, the fold up has small wheels and doesn't. We will see. Have fun David, take care. Ron

Hi Ron. Strange, I didn't see a bike helmet in that video...Ron...! I'm already missing the routine of work and you had to go and show me a cycling trip. Interesting that you also cycle on the wrong side...hmmm. There have been lots of thunder storms here over the past few days which has made it difficult for OVM, even balls don't seem to distract. Anyway, I'd better go and try to find something to keep me busy, thanks for a nice video visit as always Ron!

Moving swiftly on, sorry you are missing work, would you like me to try and contact them to see if anyone has any reports they would like produced, or exam papers left over? I don't mind honest.
