This might be my favorite lego set ever! I can see your point that it might not be an immediately satisfying build for a kid. But as a sculptor, non-child, who has focused a LOT on triceratops skulls, and quite a bit on theropod skulls, forming each component of the skull was so immensely satisfying! I'm shocked at how well this represents some of the details of their skull!! It's a phenomenal design!! One of my favorite details is the little ring in the back to represent the occipital!!! I love this set so much!!!
Hopefully lego keeps doing these skulls as i really like this. The colouring and size i think is great love the footprint too. Definitely getting it. Just wish these were based on real paleoaccurate fossils and not the jurassic park ones. Now with this Tyrannosaur its no that big of a deal but with something like the velociraptors...
But, I am struggling to think of many fossils that would fit this scale. You can't really to a recognisable brachiosaurus or stegosaurus at this scale with only a skull.. Still.. maybe triceratops skull.. velociraptor claw.. dino egg.. parasaurolophus skull.. mammoth skull.
@@PilotPhteven i personally think there is quite a lot they could do. fossilized eggs and nests, small dino/bird fossils, trilobite fossils. Lots of crazy pterasaur skulls. They could also recreate popular/famous fossils too. I think if they made it a full line they could easily keep it going for a good half decade. If they do 2 or 3 sets a year
@@PilotPhteven Brachiosaurus would be easily recognizable, the skull is very distinct. many theropods would probably look samey to the general public though.
The notch on the back of the skull seems to imply that you’ll be able to connect it to something, possibly a neck? What if the future fossil sets have the option to rebuild them into other parts of the t-rex, and collecting them all could build a full, UCS-scale t-rex skeleton?
This looks super realistic and detailed, pretty cool LEGO tree skull. I love the clever snot builds for the footprint. The only problem with this is the age recommendation. I feel like it should be a 18+ than a 9+ set
Set seems wonderful. It's just a huuge shame that it's under the Jurassic license. The T.rex skull absolutely could (and should!) have been an unlicensed set
LEGO knows EXACTLY what it is doing with the age rating on this. This set is a convenient excuse. The wife thinks you have too many LEGO sets and don’t want you buying more? Well that one is not for you but for your kid. Ohhh, is it too “complex” for the kid to build it, well, gotta help the kid out building it right?! It is also bonding time with the kid. Perfect marketing strategy.

I have no idea why Thiago decided to ramble on about age suitability and making a mountain out of an anthill, but he does love his hyperbole. If it's because of the sticker, there are people of all age ranges who need help putting them on. There's a reason stickers are everyone's least favourite part of building Lego.
This looks like a really good display piece with a for the most part fun, and unique build. Only complaints given the great price and build value would be the unprinted display plate and the hinged jaw where a heavy duty ball joint system also could have been used for better articulation. Still a great set to watch out for next year.
I teach about dinosaurs and this is a great model; you can tell they really paid attention to detail concerning the gaps and stuff in the skull. I really want to buy this!
Just built mine, and I loved building it. Watching it come together during the build was interesting. Had to describe, but you don't really "see" it, until its almost done.
I might not be under the Jurassic license, but I'd love to see them do fossils that aren't of a dinosaur like a trilobite or an ammonite. A set with one each from different geological periods would be super cool.
JP is also my Top 5 movie - it mix soo many topics with awesome actors and gorgeous sound to one senario. And, it projects to our date! Questionable sience, overconfidention, corruption, low salaries, saftey holes, and - my fav - computer errors. So this is a great Set, and also a reference.
Yknow, I'm not a Jurassic Park guy. But I do like Crichton novels. Makes me kind of want an Andromeda Strain set. Somehow, some way, maybe we'll get it.
We can only hope, but I think the chances are infinitesimally small. A Westworld set might be more likely considering it had a HBO show recently. I wouldn't mind if they did some Andromeda Strain, Sphere, or Timeline sets; but I guess we already get them with Lego Space, Undersea, and Castle themes.

I was going to joke about how you think 9 year olds will be buying this set... but better.. the ideas dinosaur skeleton 21320 set was one of the two sets which started afol me. I think its insane how this set is considered less successful, imo they are still the best lego dinosaurs we have, well second to big rex from rampage. Also thanks as always for the review.
I mean, I was born in 1990, and I was putting together Technic sets before age 7, but that's probably just me, IDK tho. It's still nice to see LEGO taking a moment to not underestimate the skills of children, so, to me, the 9+ age rating of this set seems perfect. I'm pretty sure that LEGO does inform parents - on their website, if not in their catalogs - to consider their child's individual skill level just as much as their age when buying a LEGO set for them, or, at least, they should ;-)

the 6th was really, really bad - i saw it in theaters (just like the other five) and it was the 2nd worst out of all of them (it's still better than lost world, which i find entirely unwatchable - i saw it in theaters when it came out and haven't been able to watch it all the way through again.) stick with 1, 3 and 4. that's a better trilogy. it's a shame, really, especially considering how amazing the first one is (i saw it in theaters on opening night, and then 11 more times before it left them, including once on an imax [it was the 35mm print blown up for the format, but still, it was incredible]) wanted to love the all others, but i just couldn't. was so hopeful after world, but the two sequels were just plain bad.

And despite its admittedly many faults, TLW is still the only one that even comes close to matching the original in terms of quality. I love that movie for having the last original ideas and enjoyable new characters; even though I have many problems with it, especially the third act. Unfortunately Spielberg's ego basically ruined the film's potential and legacy so he could do "Godzilla" in America before Roland Emmerich did his horrible American Godzilla movie.

I'm glad this is a 9+ set and not a 18+ set, so that it is more affordable to more people; let's be honest, Lego would've doubled the price of this if it was a 18+ set, just cos they feel like it!
Can you reduce the height of the skull a bit? Lego page says the set is 21cm tall and I have only about 18cm, which shouldn't be an issue if the pillar is brick build, right?
The only thing I don't love about the display is how flimsy/imbalanced the stand feels. It does not feel sturdy enough at all and once built, you have to be quite careful if you choose to move it around or show people.
Looks cool... but doesn't really look like a T. rex. T. rex has a very very distinctive skull, and while I think they did a good job considering the smaller scale they went with, I wish they would have omitted the footprint and used it to improve the skull.
What a shame the sticker says "Habitat: Isla Nublar". I thought dinosaurs were real and not fantasy? They could have put the continent where they lived and children could have learnt something useful.
It might just be a sudden influx of adult fans that are influencing these types of products. That said, The LEGO Group still does make play-heavy toys like the _Super Mario_ sets. That reminds me, I have been binge-watching a bunch of Virtual Streamers hosting hand-camera sets lately, and I do notice that the sets they tend to build are either detailed display pieces with a broad appeal like the Bonsai Tree [Set 10281], or licensed products like the _Star Wars_ sets. I find it understandable because the larger sets provide a longer build time and thus, a longer stream time, and the licensed sets provide a sense of familiarity. At least I was thrown in for surprise to hear that Magni Dezmond of HOLOSTARS and Akuma Nihmune are _Bionicle_ fans!

It really depends. My son (and I) build the Death Star when he was 4. And I ended up more as his assistant.

I'm guessing the hinge was used because the weight of the lower jaw would be too heavy to use bar/clips to allow for more positioning possibilities?
