I had to watch this a couple times before responding. Ranma 1/2 is very personal to me. A few years into my time in the military, I was deeply depressed and lonely, having gone through a few bad relationships. My friend Sam got me out of it by introducing me to anime and D&D, and in particular, Ranma. He had a ton of them on VHS, and we kept adding to the library over the years. Rumiko Takahashi had some really keen insight into human behavior. Her understanding of relationships carries through to all of her anime, letting love grow between her characters naturally and through many ups and downs. Not a lot of writers have this kind of skill, the other one that stands out being Kentaro Miura's depiction of the relationship between Guts and Casca. More than anything, Ranma taught me that the person you think you want to be with might not be the right one for you, and that's okay. It also taught me that the way you think you need to be for someone might not be what they actually want or need. The movies and specials showed this in particular. Maybe my opinions are "wrong", and maybe the series is completely different in the manga, but it's just how I feel, and I think Takahashi's works helped me mature as a person. I wasn't expecting this. Thanks for making it. I think I'll send it to my friend Sam. Anything Ranma related is guaranteed to out a smile on his face. Oh, and I love The Adventures Of Lolo.
I feel like at the very least the core themes of self acceptance and relationships in the series are the same in both, though I do highly recommend reading the manga, since it's actually quite short and the many nuances in Takahashi's writing are lost in the Anime by virue of them bloating it greatly with their own original stories that have the characters acting very out of character
12:30 I'm french, weren't anime characters' names italian names in Italy too? Our first avalanche of anime (before the 90's) came thanks to canale 5 and it was rare to hear japanese names apart from dragon ball. With the second avalanche (during the 90's), it was the same, mostly french or american names instead of the japanese ones.
I think the art in all of these looks pretty good, it's just too bad the gameplay in most seems tolerable at best, aside from the visual novels amd that one fighting game you said was good. At least there was topless Ranma. The ones with original stories would be nice to play through just for "new" Ranma episodes in a sense. Good video, funny Ming Dynussy ending btw lol
The PCE Games had high quality pixel art cutscenes which made it worth playing, but the game itself is not so good. I am working on a fan game which combines the best from Chougi Ranbu Hen, Hard Battle and Chōnai Gekitōhen and features most of the cutscenes seen in the PCE Games and new pixel art cutscenes that cover the Herb and Saffron arc. See it as a spiritual successor of Chougi Ranbu Hen, but a more improved version. It uses the IKEMEN GO engine.
if theres ever a new game i would like it to be a full rumiko takahashi crossover 2D fighter with popular characters from urusei yatsura ranma 1/2 maison ikkoku inuyasha kyokai no rin-ne mao and even characters from her one shots like rumic theater and rumic world
Was I? I felt I was pretty fair on them all things considered. I'm judging them purely based on their own merits as games comparing them primarily to games of the same time
@TheKHC You did. Even I don't think they seem that great. But I think you were a little harsh at times, particularly on the art, I think they all looked good. That was the best thing about them.
I hate Rumiko Takahashi
That's unfortunate. I can see why, it's just a shame you can't find anything you enjoy about her works.
I love Rumikp Takahashi, cope and seethe.
So basically your opinion doesn't matter

I rented one as a kid on SNES, had no idea what it was but enjoyed it well enough.

It was a toss-up. More often than not italian dubs would just use the japanese names with italian pronunciations

Got me acting unwise
damn, freaky manga
nice vid
Fuhreekee
You spelled "amazing" wrong. It doesn't start with an F and you got every other letter wrong, too.

Neat. Hope that goes well for you 👍

That would be very fun, and I'm honestly shocked they never did do that considering how frequently Takahashi's characters cross over
nice video, subsucubbed
12:39 They are not. And you should have been able to tell that because they clearly aren't even remotely similar.
I wouldn't know, I never watched the english dub.
KINOOOOOOOO
Kaz you still owe me 5 dollars
You were WAY too unfairly harsh on a LOT of these.
Was I? I felt I was pretty fair on them all things considered. I'm judging them purely based on their own merits as games comparing them primarily to games of the same time
@@TheKHC You were a little harsh on the non-action games maybe, but the ones with action gameplay seem rough for the most part.
Really? I feel like I was properly explained off the both good and bad parts about them
@TheKHC You did. Even I don't think they seem that great. But I think you were a little harsh at times, particularly on the art, I think they all looked good. That was the best thing about them.
The English voices aren't the same as the anime. Ranma was voiced by a woman for most of the series.
Ah, that makes sense I guess. It's really funny then
@TheKHC she does a decent male voice. In the last seasons Ranma is voiced by the same voice english actor as Inuyasha.
Hah, that's fun. The two share a voice in japanese as well
@TheKHC yup. I watched both series in both English and Japanese. Both were fun watches.
