This really drew into focus exactly why I loved the early games. Nostalgia and just more fun despite how old and limited it is.

I've only played the games based on the first three books but just from watching your playthroughs on them all I'd say the ranking was pretty spot on from a spectator's perspective
Fun to see this list, given your HP playthroughs were how I found thus channel during... one of the lockdowns, I forget which! I've played all of these apart from the 2 deathly hallows ones (thank goodness!) And the ps2 version of Philosophers stone as that's very expensive for some reason. I think Prisoner of Azkaban might be favourite game, followed by Ps1 Philosophers for the pure nostalgia, I remember getting that game for my birthday and becoming instantly obsessed.
I also really enjoyed the Quidditch World Cup game on ps2. Fairly simple but sunk many, many hours into that one.
Ah yeah I did have quidditch world cup on gamecube, but didn't play much!
The nostalgia is why I love CoS so much. I remember waking up early enough to get in a little gameplay before school in the second grade. Gosh I'm old.

The ps2 versions of philosophers stone and chamber of secrets are goated I love them so much and have such fond memories playing the both of them so much
I've personally only played 2 Harry Potter games, The Sorcerer's Stone for PC and Chamber of Secrets for the GBC. Chamber of Secrets is actually a pretty decent RPG with a ton of wizarding cards to collect and a few little minigames that are kinda fun. Sorcerer's Stone is not all that special in and of itself, but because I played it when I was really little, it's kinda nostalgic for me.
The only Harry Potter game I played as a kid was Prisoner of Azkaban on gamecube. I could never finish it back then though, I always got stuck at the same spot.
I loved watching your HP LPs, we could see you had fun, even with the "crappier" ones 😂
I only played Sorcerer's stone and Order of Phoenix and I remember them fondly though they have so many flaws. I watched you play through the rest, the ranking makes sense to me.
Honestly, I reckon I would have put them all in exactly the same order! Deathly Hallows just isn’t fun because you just shoot stuff, GOF is weird as it deviates from the format that we all love, and of course, the original PS1 game holds such a special place in a lot of our hearts :)
My list:
10: Deathly Hallows part 1 ps3 ( Never finished it was too difficult)
9: Goblet of Fire ps2 ( Ron is normally one of my favourite characters but he's so annoying in this game. I also have no friends so had to play it alone )
8: Deathly Hallows part 2 ps3 ( good but too easy, Voldemort didn't put up much of a fight)
7: Half Blood Prince ps3 ( I actually enjoyed the potion mini games but wasn't keen on the casting)
6: Philosopher's Stone PS1 ( Fun game but I couldn't get past Gringotts so I'd rather watch Mage ignore the goblins)
5: Chamber of Secrets PS1 ( great game but I didn't like having to trap the puffskeins to get to places)
4: Order of the Phoenix ps2 ( love Harry's sass in this game, don't like the dueling though and Bellatrix's voice acting is terrible )
3: Philosopher's Stone Ps2 ( really fun the background music is amazing)
2: Prisoner of Azkaban ps2( I enjoyed playing as Hermione and flying buckbeak)
1: Chamber of Secrets ps2( I played it the most, I played it everyday for 2 weeks when I was 10 and was recovering from having my tonsils removed. It's the most nostalgic for me)
Great list. I played philosophers stone on PC and that was my first so it was literally amazing at age 8 or 9. But chamber of secrets for ps2 was sooo dope, and being able to fly around hog warts on a broomstick was unreal. Only other one I played was goblet and it was so trash I barely played two hours total
I totally agree that sometimes hyper realistic graphics takes away the personality of an art style. Great video Mage! I always love hearing your opinions on games.

I tapped out after the fifth one. 4 ruined the controls, and 5’s film-accurate Hogwarts just wasn’t as fun to explore as the jungle gym game world of the previous titles. 6 and onwards promised to be even worse, so I haven’t bothered.
But, ditto. I’m absolutely down to try Hogwarts Legacy, just as soon as I can afford the new console 😅
And, yes! Sneaking around the prefects and Filch was so tense, but it was still hilarious when they caught you.

Off topic, I apologize! But I do hope for another FF9 playthrough in 2023 or 2024! I was just reading and listening to the ost. It is sooo good!
In my opinion, and this was only because I learned about it years later, the PC version of Chamber of Secrets is one of the all time best. Prior to Hogwarts Legacy now obv lol I didn't know for years, but it's basically a completely different game to the console versions. I'd honestly recommend giving it a whirl, since you enjoy the early era of the games, I think it'll be right up your alley. In a lot of ways it's actually more 'feature rich' than PoA. With optional duels, a mini quidditch league, and one of the more actually explorable versions of the Hogwarts castle seen in any game.

Based on the fact that 4 was Harry Potter and the Mage Complaints, I'm honestly surprised it placed so high. And heck yes, Azkaban is hands down the best of the books! As for my rankings, I never played the Deathly Hallows games (your frustration with them was enough torment), 4 would be on the bottom followed by 5, 6, 2, and 3 at the top. I like the castle of 5 and 6 better, but the earlier games were utterly charming

The only one I played on this was HP:OOTP but on XBox 360. Same as the PS3 version though. Also Lego HP: Years 1-4. That one was a lot of fun and one of the few games I platinumed. Mage, have you chosen your house for Legacy yet?

It's hard to beat nostalgia. I know that feeling. Future generations won't have that in the same way we did. They'll look on the graphics of a PS1 game and say: "What's this kids stuff"?
I've ever played any of these, just the GBA ones. Safe to say I'll be leaving the Deathly Hallows alone 😂 Prisoner of Askaban is my favourite book too! Great video 👍🏻

My sister had the first game on PC and that was super fun, and eventually I got the first four on PS2. The first three were magical as a kid. The fourth was a nightmare. I didn't buy any games based on films after that... Honestly the fact that they managed to make worse ones later in the series is a remarkable feat worthy of awe lol

As i kid i loved playing games 1 through 3. A little after graduation i downloaded DH part 1 for pc, i played halfway through but afterwards the pc somehow restarted itself and then upon getting back to the game all progress had been lost. The first 3 games were amazing but DH P1 i felt was quite challenging!!
Now as a lady who is almost 30 i purchased games 4 through 6 because i was such a superfan back in the day but never found them at game shops when looking for them.
After playing almost all classic HP games, i have to say my favourite is the 6th one. It has the ease of casting spells of games 1-3, the amazing graphics familiar to those who have already played the 5th game and it is just mich better than DH as well. It is like the addictiveness of games 1-3 but with better graphics and better storyline. And the worst is of course Goblet of Fire 😅
I have no idea about Hogwarts Legacy but everyone says this is the best attempt at making an HP game to date.

Chamber of Secrets is the Potter game I played the most as a kid, I loved that game. I had it for my Nintendo GameCube and also the third game Prisoner of Azkaban, that one was really fun too. The later Potter games though, 5th and 6th are ok, but yeah I agree with you man Deathly Hollows Parts 1 and 2 and Goblet of Fire were terrible games, didn’t enjoy those. Super excited for Hogwarts Legacy, can’t wait!
I've only played 4 HP games or 6 if you count the LEGO ones as well. My ranking:
6. Goblet of Fire PS2 - Just pure crap, nothing like the games before it.
5. Chamber of Secrets Xbox - Same as PS2 but with slightly better graphics. I had fun exploring Hogwarts.
4. Prisoner of Azkaban Xbox / PS2 - Really good level design and I like the character switching mechanic.
3. Philosopher's Stone PS1 - Graphics may not be up to scratch today but the gameplay was a ton of fun. And yes, the Gringotts minigame sucks, getting all those gems is such a pain in the arse!
2. LEGO Harry Potter 5-7 PC - This would've been top if it weren't for the horrible technical issues: fluctuating framerate and awful stutter. Still a fun game though if you can get over those issues.
1. LEGO Harry Potter 1-4 PC - I had so much fun with this and going for 100% was an absolute blast. I got over 40 hours out of this and it only cost me £2.49!

Personally I think goblet of fire is a worse game than deathly hallows part 1. At least in deathly hallows you can explore and find collectibles, granted not at hogwarts but still I kind of like exploring the countryside areas. Even though I can’t go like 10 seconds without getting spotted by a death eater or snatcher. Also that confingo spell is awesome to use against enemies. It is still pretty bad though, it’s my second to last pick. Prisoner of Azkaban was my favorite of the main series and I fully admit part of my hatred for goblet of fire is due to it coming out after the amazing prisoner of Azkaban. My personal favorite Harry Potter console games are actually the Lego hp games. Years 5-7 is a tad bit better in my opinion but 1-4 is excellent as well

They were wonderful games that you can beat within a day or two. I firmly believe that these games paved the way for "Hogwarts Legacy".

The biggest issue with ps2 philosophers stone is the price. £40 plus for a game from 2003 is ludicrous. Still my favourite hp game

The only 2 Harry p games I've played r chamber of secrets ps2 and prisoner of azkaban ps2 I preferred chamber of secrets ps2 by a long shot prisoner of azkaban was a lot more complicated and I couldn't complete it I completed chamber of secrets ps2 though.
Prisoner of Azkaban was always one I never got to play but recently I was able to try out the PC version and I have to say that is my favorite HP game until Hogwarts Legacy hits that PS4 😂
