I totally agree, for me the 488gtb is the best super car ever made by human been, the only diffect it has is that it’s so expensive even used in market used car, let’s hope that in other further 10 years it’s price will get lower, I really want to be a 488 gtb in 10 years , even if i won’t be able to afford it 😂
Nicely done Mark 😀650S for me. I prefer the sound, it's better and less tiresome when you need it to be, it's more comfortable and the possibility of being off boost means a 650S can easily top 30mpg meaning it's the true modern supercar, good to the environment, quiet, comfortable and faster than anything else. The 488 is holding on to the past and does not move anything forward, it's not a game changer like the McLaren.
Thanks for the feedback. I wouldn't be so harsh on the Ferrari. The engine develops 661bhp and is very seamless. the aero is also very clever which means no need for a large rear spoiler. I personally prefer the ride of the McLaren and the feeling of the turbo lag, before it takes off.
888MF turbo lag is not a good thing. Even though both cars use twin-turbocharged engines, the Ferrari is tuned perfectly to where the lag is virtually non-existent. Not so on a 650S.
@@ryanwaugh1 that's not how this works. You compare by ratio. There are waaay fewer McLarens that exist compared to Ferrari. Any ill informed person that doesn't know much about cars would say they'd choose a Lamborghini, Ferrari, or Rolls-Royce because those are names that pretty much everyone knows. On the other hand, McLaren is a company that's just starting out and doesn't have much popularity due to it only being made recently. I'd take a McLaren over a Ferrari any day but because McLaren pumps out new models all the time to grow their consumer market their cars depreciate rapidly as a result. That was super helpful, thank you! Fast forward a number of years, and you're right -- the Ferrari F8 changed the front spoiler and added way more down force -- similar to the Pista. I love the doors and speed of the McLaren, I love the looks and the slightly better comforts (I'm tall) in the 488. Either one seems fantastic. So.....I just bought the 488 and am awaiting delivery! Thanks guys!
Great vid guys. With McLarens, are they all hardtop convertible? And when the roof is down can you still see the engine through the glass screen? That's one thing I don't like about the 458/488 spiders, you can't see the engine, not even when the roof is up.
Well done review. Excellent photography and editing. Thoughtfuls analysis. As good or better than many other professional auto reviewers . Please keep up the good work. Very enjoyable to watch.
Mclaren performs way better and im literally not lying. It pulls 10 cars away after overtaking the 488 in 1/2 mile. Sometimes its not everything about the looks and name.
I can't speak for the 650S but I traded in my McLaren 12C for a 488 and while I can't explain the science; I can say that I'm very very very very happy with that upgrade (oh yes, I used the u word) and maybe the 12C is a very different car from the 650S (I'm sure it is) but I love the Ferrari 488. Again, not having driven the 650S, so take it with a huge grain of salt. I will give some talking points in terms of reliability. The 12C, on my first day with the car, in the rain, had the wiper motor fail (they issued a recall only good in some states) and it had constant squeaks from the frunk. The carbon fiber in the car had all discolored from just a few sunny days beating down on it, and the trim is not covered by the McLaren warranty. Speaking of warranty, the McLaren warranty explicitly forbids driving the car on a track (it voids the warranty). It's a race car. It needs to be on the track. It deserves to be on the track. But me, a poor boy from a poor family, couldn't wrap my head around tracking it. The frunk also had some frunk seal issues which allowed moisture to get in. The fit and finish just wasn't as good, IMHO, as the Ferrari. Also, the Iris system in the McLaren (the center console stereo/nav/thing) constantly flickered, doesn't support Apple CarPlay, and... is a running joke amongst McLaren owners because if you try to do a call and have something in the nav or on bluetooth, you're basically going to have to pick because the system requires constant resetting. And yes, the 488 does come with Apple CarPlay and while it's a tiny point... It's nice to have that convenience you get from a Honda Civic. ;-)
It'd be the McLaren for me, looks a lot better too. When the McLaren was revving a bit, I got thinking about which one of your cars has the best sound? Maybe a video idea?
Thanks Terry. I found the standard seats uncomfortable so sourced some full carbon seats from a 675LT. I will be having them re-trimmed to remove the 675LT badging soon.
If one considers the price delta between the two cars at current market values, its tough to choose the 488 over the 650s in terms of performance and this is coming from a Ferrari owner
Having had a McLaren (albeit the 12C) and now having the Ferrari 488; I can't speak to the 650S but I can say that the Ferrari is a much much more fun car to drive. Ironically, from a looks perspective, the 12C got a lot more attention, more photos taken by people, the car was an attention getter. The rear end and it's Blinky locky lights were fantastic and that big dynamic wing were very fun. The 488, in contrast, doesn't attract much attention. I picked the McLaren 12C over my old Ferrari 458 and while the car is technically better, in almost every single way, I ended up trading in the 12C on a 488 and going back to Ferrari. I have never been a Ferrari fan boy but I will say that there were quality issues at McLaren that will keep me nervous about going back and getting another McLaren anytime soon. Those included navigation failure, wiper motor failure (in the rain), fit and finish squeaks, suspension lifter lockout (failed on hot days). I have never had a single issue with either the 458 or 488. They are rock solid in terms of quality. Just sharing my experience but I agree that the McLaren is a great looking car and technically brilliant.
Why is this the most asked question?! I had a cervical disc replacement in April. I bought the car with the standard sports seats and found them very uncomfortable so I sourced some used 675LT full carbon bucket seats. I just haven't removed the logo yet as I need the whole seat re-trimmed.
Hi Harry. I had a cervical disc replacement in April 2017 and after I bought the car I didn't find the standard seats comfortable. So I sourced some full carbon 675LT seats. Hi there, you have the best or one of the best youtube channel for sports car :) This video was so amazing and the background of them driving by the water and landscape was just Amazing. Thank you for all the amazing videos, have fun and be safe. Merry Christmas brother. And thanks to all the car owners for letting see your Sports car in action : )
great video....very informative and engaging....Ferrari looks prettier but at this moment in time you can pick up a 650 S convertible with 7/8k miles on it for 105k....the Ferrari is much more expensive ....closer to 175k so it makes it a no brainer... the MC Claren wins all day...
very dramatic music.......great! I've seen Elliot on vids before, a worthy guest of your channel. My sincere apologies Mark, but it's Ferrari for me. Although, granted having not driven either, it's purely based on childhood conditioning! Mclaren deserve credit for what they have produced in their short history. Super vid, Sir.
Yes! I sourced them after I bought the car. They are full carbon so very light and very comfortable. I will have them re-trimmed soon, and remove the 675LT logo.
888MF not trolling you lol, fair play to you mate, I was more curious that you got a 675LT. Fair play mate, if I am as successful as you I will be well happy! Love the content 👌🏻
Totally disagree with you. The technology in the McLaren is way ahead of its time. Carbon tub, real wheel brake steer, active aero, air brake, silky adjustable suspension and dihedral doors. I prefer it to the sports series as the suspension is more refined.
888MF Never driven either, so can’t comment on the drives - but as a passer-by, McLarens obsession with changing their cars every 2 minutes just makes anything other than the current one ‘look’ old - sorry !! The 650S in McLaren terms is quite old design language now. (Still love your car though, Dude, and would happily have one)
Hard not pick Ferrari over any car , but for a track car I would reluctantly have to take the McLaren .one thing you must keek in mind that at this stage there are people that are not “ Car guys “ that unfortunately have a lot of say on how this cars are sold to costumers , one result is reason they are using turbocharged engine , they have to , McLaren on the other hand wants to use a turbo engine , anyone can build a 600 hp turbo engine , but take the turbos away and who do you have ? , not many left in the ring. It’s a shame the Ferrari will not produce aspirated V12s anymore .
Amazing clips and i appreciated your honesty comparing the two cars. Also i agree with you, the front of the 488 is light and "meh", i prefer the 650s on that, but the 488 back is perfect (btw the rosso corsa is so so boring)
The front is beautiful, but i respect that some people disagree, and those people dont need to worry about mclaren vs ferrari since given the opportunity they would chose a Lambo anyway
Ploffy Kha Lambos are for poor drivers who need an awd. No existing pro-driver has ever chosen a Lambo as a private car. They basically all go for Ferrari.
CarCulture . . . is biased as am I. At least I am realistic. McLaren built hyper-cars to compete with Ferrari and Lamborghini. MARQUEE BRANDS - Ferrari and Porsche are the two Marquee brands which Lamborghini has joined and Bigatti dropped of yaers ago. The De Thomaso . HYPERCARS - McLaren, the Bugatti, Zonda etc . . . are specifically engineered to be really fast. You take them out and go really fast on a race track . . . and . . . that's all they do. Ferrari and Porsche are driveable cars. Lamborghini has slowly merged into the Porsche and Ferrari marquee market as most models, can be driven every day. McLaren takes ALL your focus and concentration to avoid smashing so you are forced to head to a race track or open highway/motorway. I have spoken to one McLaren owner and he was embarrassed as . . . males aged 18 to 26 raved about the car, speed and how he could afford it and rudely, how much money does he make? He told me at that time, he was changing it to a Ferrari 430 as the 458,488 V12 Berlinetta's did not exist at that time. I was stunned . . .
Excellent comparison guys. While I do have a Ferrari, I love the McLaren I own for the very reasons described. Agility like no other car I’ve ever experienced. If I had to choose only one - McLaren!
I currently own a 650S Spyder...Lamborghini Huracan coupe prior to the Mclaren and a Ferrari 458 coupe prior to the Huracan. The 650S is the better track car on both Road Atlanta and the Daytona Rolex course. The Mclaren is so precise, predictable, AND forgiving. You can just drive the hell out of it, throw it into the apex, and out you fly under full power!
Amazing video. The sound and quality are both fantastic. I come from HK. I own a 458 Italia and glad to know that the 488 feels like an NA engine which I always prefer in terms of the seamlessly power and better engine sound. I do agree with you that the front of 488 is not aggressive enough but I am not a fan of the rear look of McLaren but it always has an aggressive front look. One thing I would like to know is the riding feel of the least aggressive driving mode of the two cars since most of the time I drive gently (I always switch on the bumpy road mode of my 458) I hope you could compare the 458 speciale to the Lambo LP610-4 or even the new Huracan Performante. Again, thank you so much for the great video :)
Welcome to my TH-cam channel. I am glad you enjoyed the video. Both cars have good suspension. The Ferrari has the bumpy road setting which is good and the McLaren has the sophisticated independent hydraulic suspension which is one of the main reasons I bought the car. I agree the rear of the 650S looks a little dated, but that's only because they made the 675LT rear look so good!!!! More videos to come, don't worry.
The 488 has a lot of “head” too, not only hearth. Ferrari got both covered. Anyway heart is more important, for example a volvo lover need a volvo, of course, an audi is better but doesnt strike the right chords in him. And while mclaren has some fans ferrari has something no other brand has: Very wide appeal, extremely few people dislike ferraris, you just cant go wrong when choosing one.
Interesting you should say that. I know a lot of Ferrari owners who have switched to McLaren. I myself chose the 650S over the 488 GTB and am happy with my decision. If you look at the technology that goes into the 650S you'll be surprised. A lot was taken from the development of the P1. In addition I believe the dihedral doors add a lot of drama to the car, and these are normally only found on V12 Lamborghini's.
no contest, definitely when the cars are so close I would go for the Ferrari for its emotional connection. I also happen to think its a much better looking car if not as beautiful as the 458 was
Nice video I always appreciate your videos but if you ask me that question I would say heart between the two Ferrari , this is my opinion is engineered that is why it’s a drivers car
The 488 is amazing!!
How comes there's 675lt engraved on the 650s' seats
Because they weren't purchased from new. I need to have them re-trimmed but haven't had time to do that yet. They are super for the 650S. Very comfortable and very light.

So, most of the time in these comparisons, ferrari is not the best car but they pick ferrari because it's a ferrari....
Luís Takashi ... right...and?
and what??
Hey can’t blame a dude for following his heart.
Can’t rule out the $$ now. Have driven both, the 488 made me cry… DRS at 200kph… and you do hear the turbos right behind your head. Great job guys.
In 2024, the 488 is way way more expensive on the used market. Getting up towards double the price . So the McLaren is far better value I believe
I totally agree, for me the 488gtb is the best super car ever made by human been, the only diffect it has is that it’s so expensive even used in market used car, let’s hope that in other further 10 years it’s price will get lower, I really want to be a 488 gtb in 10 years , even if i won’t be able to afford it 😂
675lt seats?
Yes, and steering wheel
is it possible to spec a 720 s with the LT seat then?
I was just about to ask ! 😂
Don't think 675LT seats are compatible with 720S but you could order the 650S from new with bucket seats
Ya I think it’s an option to get the 675lt seats in a 650s
You boys are on your A game. Amazing video 🔥🔥
Thanks!!
So why, inthe intro, does it say "675LT" o0n the headrest???
Honestly best vid i have seen this whole week!well done keep it up love it!!:)
Maybe you haven't seen many videos :)

I like the turbo boost feeling of the 650s i drove in one and omg the turbo boost feeling is ridiculous
IMHO 488 Is the most beautiful car in the world
Owned them both. Both great cars but as an overall package the 488 is the winner imo .
Yes, both great cars. But so different to drive.
Why is the 488 better? Did you have problems with the 650s? And which is more reliable 650s or 570s?
Ferrari, no doubt!
The quality of this video is astonishing. Keep them coming mate!
Thank you!
I’ve owned both and I completely agree with the guys… as I still own a 488 Spider
Awesome video...Ferrari
488 everyday and twice on a Sunday
Prefer the McLaren especially with their supercar doors
Said to say but, Brits prefer Mclaren, rest of the world would take Ferrari any day!
I am sorry but you are wrong. McLaren’s largest market is still North America, which takes up around 37% of the brand’s output.
Mclaren I would take I’m in nz Bruce mclarens home country
Anyone would take an F1 over any Ferrari
888MF that doesn’t prove him wrong? How many Ferrari’s sell in the US. If more Ferrari’s sell then the US prefers Ferrari’s and your point is mute.

McLaren cuz the Ferrari is too common, you seen them everywhere. also the way the mclaren doors open are so cool so mclaren for me.
What about the differences in steering feel?
I found the McLaren to be more direct than the 488, but I am looking forward to seeing if the 488 Pista gets the steering spot on

Amazing clips and i appreciated your honesty comparing the two cars. Also i agree with you, the front of the 488 is light and "meh", i prefer the 650s on that, but the 488 back is perfect (btw the rosso corsa is so so boring)
Thanks for the feedback
Andre Tennis "the 488 front is light and meh". Yeah, sure. thanks for your feedback, we'll let Ferrari know.
Andre Tennis ... that’s because you’ve never walked into your garage, turned on the light and seen rosso corsa.
Well done!
I want to see a comparative teste!
What does that mean?
888MF I want to see numbers, acelerations, speed, comparison....
We stated top speed and bhp. This was more about how different each car feels.
Great Video! Ferrari is much better.
CarCulture Worldwide Because?
I was stunned . . .
What are these guys smoking? the 488 sounds much better than the 650s inside and outside the car!
Excellent comparison guys. While I do have a Ferrari, I love the McLaren I own for the very reasons described. Agility like no other car I’ve ever experienced. If I had to choose only one - McLaren!
Amazing video as always! Its really difficult to choose between these two cause I like both of them. I think I'll take the 650S.
Me too!
great video
Love the Ferrari however 650s is a great car - head over heart
plz do a head to head drag race with these cars if you can
It is very hard to get a track or airfield.
Good quality video
I currently own a 650S Spyder...Lamborghini Huracan coupe prior to the Mclaren and a Ferrari 458 coupe prior to the Huracan. The 650S is the better track car on both Road Atlanta and the Daytona Rolex course. The Mclaren is so precise, predictable, AND forgiving. You can just drive the hell out of it, throw it into the apex, and out you fly under full power!
Ferrari 488 GTB
Great video just dial it down a bit with that apocalyptic music
I love the music, but we will use something different for each video
Amazing video. The sound and quality are both fantastic.
I come from HK. I own a 458 Italia and glad to know that the 488 feels like an NA engine which I always prefer in terms of the seamlessly power and better engine sound.
I do agree with you that the front of 488 is not aggressive enough but I am not a fan of the rear look of McLaren but it always has an aggressive front look.
One thing I would like to know is the riding feel of the least aggressive driving mode of the two cars since most of the time I drive gently (I always switch on the bumpy road mode of my 458)
I hope you could compare the 458 speciale to the Lambo LP610-4 or even the new Huracan Performante.
I did not know they had a bumpy road mode wow wow wat it does
man you are sooo good...!!!
Both lovely cars, but one will break down more often than Britney Spears. Lovely vid!
You deserve more subscribers!
Both of them are in my garage 😎
Why play music over the exhaust when your your specifically showcasing the exhaust note.
I prefer the look of the 650 in that colour.
Thanks. It is titanium silver and I love it.
no contest, definitely when the cars are so close I would go for the Ferrari for its emotional connection. I also happen to think its a much better looking car if not as beautiful as the 458 was
Nice video I always appreciate your videos but if you ask me that question I would say heart between the two Ferrari , this is my opinion is engineered that is why it’s a drivers car
Thanks
For me, and 12C better, then 488.....
