  • STOP using SKAGs or if you have no idea what I am talking about these are:
Single Keyword Ad Groups for Google Ads.
For many years this was a core structure for successful Google Ads campaigns and the reason for this was that you were able to very quickly see which keywords gave you the best results, so you could then focus spending on the best performing keywords.
NOW the good news is that this strategy is not dead, it just needs to be updated. In this video I take you through the updated strategy you need to use.

One question: if the 4 words can be triggered by the same search term, what is the reason for having to insert the 4 words in the ad group instead of just inserting 1 word in the ad group?

Fmo cuz users have uses different search terms and u need to ensure that u are targeting the keywords as the most relevant the target keywords the higher chance you ads can enter to bid.

The reason is that now with google ads using machine learning algorithms and broad keyword match, SKAG structure doesn't make any sense. One search term now may trigger any of dozens similar long-tail keywords.

What about making sure the landing page is the same? Using your example, wouldn't you want a landing page talking about sensory headphones for autism for the first search and noise cancelling headphones sensory for the second?

I presume you still segment campaigns by match type? And negate exacts from broads/phrase?

Very insightful! I have always wondered if Google triggered ads for plural versions of exact match keywords like 'stores' or 'shops' when the exact match keyword was 'store' or 'shop'. What about a keyword like 'computer mouse' or ''computer mice', do you need to add both of those keywords into the STAGs, or just the non plural version even though its spelled out so differently?

What do I categorize the theme keywords as borax, phrase or exact when building my ad group?

I show ads in two cities, can I use keyword variations to swap out the city name in the copy?
