    Video so popular, it's still up, reminds me, I just ordered a SSR Ulua, cost me $150 to ship it to Texas, most of the time I don't have to pay for shipping. Been watching this guy for years, might be reruns, but they're still damn good videos.

      Hi Jorge, I'm still around but have moved on from Seeker given they don't even make their own rods these days. The whole landscape of USA made West Coast rod building has changed since I made this video many years ago. United Composites, new name for Graphine USA, is the prime manufacturer of quality blanks and finished rods these days. Better blanks, better technology, and Seeker's old production manager (Randy Penny) is the owner. Please catch the video I posted 3-4 years ago regarding UC.

    Awesome video. All of your videos are very informative.
    Wish we could of got the history on them before getting cut off at approx. 0:36 in the beginning of the video.

      You didn't miss anything, I just edited out a telephone ring which interrupted the discussion. Hopefully the rest of the vid covered the bases. The video covers Seeker back when they were producing their own rods in Long Beach prior to the sale of the company, sell off of production equipment, Production Manager leaving firm and falling out of the leadership roll Seeker enjoyed in the past. The rod making landscape changed when Seeker was sold...

    What’s the difference of the SSR Ulua series? I bought one of those on accident thinking it was a Super Seeker Ulua for surface irons. Before I have my guy start my blank build I wanna find out if it’s a good 9ft surface iron rod or if I should take it back and get the SS Ulua instead. I noticed the SSR is 25-50 while the SS is a 25-60 rod. All I know is the SSR is e glass and the SS is S glass. Or sure which is better or worse for throwing iron

      Sorry, I can't be of a whole lot of help in terms of Seeker models these days. Everything changed several years ago when a fellow purchased Seeker, destroyed the firm in order to raise money for the purpose of buying another well known SoCal rod company. That sale did not go thru, but Seeker was left without the ability or tallent to make their own rods. The guy that destroyed the firm, found another person to buy what was left...just a name with another firm building their blanks. So, in my estimation, Seeker is not a real player any more. Their old production manager for over 20 years is Randy Penny, is now the owner of United Composites, previousely known as Graphite USA. GUSA/UC always produced the best blanks, had the best technology, and they still do but have upgraded given Randy's pedigree. You ask about a long jig stick, Ulua. That's Randy's strong suit, and he has you very well covered with a lighter, stronger, more casting friendly blank. If it's typical Surface Iron, 40# test line, the UC GP 9E is the best blank in the business - by far. (in factory built form RGP 9E). It's a no-brainer if you stop by our shop and pick up the 9E, much nicer bend for casting, much lighter in the hands, in all ways a much better piece to own.

    I want a rig for casting irons. I usually fish out of seaforth landing San Diego. I did some homework and I'm leaning towards a seeker pinhead ulua93h with a torium 20? What would you recommend ? And is there a similar casting setup that's easier on the wallet?

    • @CharkBaitUSA
      @CharkBaitUSA  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Blueyeska951 A lot has happened since the video was posted. Seeker sold in 2014. New owners ceased rod production in Long Beach, have another firm with no saltwater experience producing blanks for them, and it's my opinion that the quality dropped off significantly. Rod design team, production manager, the guys who built the rods all left, They are now at United Composites in Huntington Beach. So, I'd say if you can find an old one on the racks at a shop, congrats - good rod and very good value. However, I'd suggest if you're going 'glass to look closely at Calstar. Better blanks, still produced the old way - which worked quite well. There are some other options, but in 'glass, Calstar is the best option by far.

    Hi I bought a 9E from you recently and I love the action. Say though for the sake of historical reference only could you inform us on the timeline of production for original Long Beach, Seeker Black Steel Graphite rods. The timeline that I guessing is 1995 to 2014 when the company was sold off. Do you have a corrected timeline for this production run?

    • @CharkBaitUSA
      @CharkBaitUSA  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Working off long term memory here... I'm thinking Black Steel series was first offered around 2004, Super Seekers more like 2008. Best source for info on that series will come from Randy (owner) UC who was Seeker's production manager for over 20 years. The Black Steel series was his work back then.

    What would be the the best pound rating on a black steel series to pair with an Avet MXL 5.8? For rockfish, Lingcod and striper?

    • @CharkBaitUSA
      @CharkBaitUSA  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'd suggest the 670 as a great match with the reel. Handles the upper line test that the MXL is capable of, really one of the best rods in that series.

    im gonna have to agree with you about the jx being a better caster. i backlashed about every other cast when fly lining sardines. guess im just used to my avet sx with mc. as far as the drag, it did great in san diego this past weekend. i caught 1 yellow and 3 dodos no problem

  • @Bartimusblue27
    @Bartimusblue27 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    The reel i going to have it paired with is a new sustain 10k with 60lb hollow, was wondering would a Hercules be a better choice, i want a thin blank for casting big soft plastics like hogys and ronz with tip but a ton of backbone because in the pass we have 20+lb gag grouper that pop up occasionally and its a no drag tug of war once you realize whats on the other end,

    hey charkbait. keep up the good vids. just have a few questions. what seeker rod would you rec for being on a budget mainly for throwing irons for cuda or bonita. and what length. also what rod and length would you rec for just fishing bottom or occasional casting for yellows or dorados? thanks

  • @azrael3758
    @azrael3758 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    CharkbaitUSA would you recommend using the Pinhead Rod for pier fishing for shovelnose shark and batrays? If so what would be your preferred setup for that application?

    The Stealth series looks amazing. I'm thinking about purchasing one. Would you give me some advise select a proper model for me? I mainly just fish 1/2 boats. So the typical action I see is kelp for calicos, sand bass and shallow water rockfish. If the Stealth isn't a good choice what is? Also, what type of reel would you pair it up with?

  • @rjc89sir
    @rjc89sir 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    i totally agree with you on this one. im a big seeker fan myself. i have 2 blue lightning series rods. only reason im even going there is because of the gift card. i just wanted your opinion on which is the better rod to get. they have okuma, daiwa, and the new penn rods. everything else is shimano and their offshore angler brand. thanks

      depends on what you like i guess and what you are fishing for i use seeker and penn but for that shimano get a shimano 10 to30 or even 50 pound

    Thank you for replying to my posts, im going to order my components first and bounce the specific model around the ol noodle but you have definitely give me something to think about, can you do a vid on the ahi assassin lineup w/ the weight dead lifts to show the actual power because I've got my heart set on a dogfight 7000h and want something premade with a warranty

  • @Al3jomojo
    @Al3jomojo 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi I was wondering how good of a combo would a SS 670-7' S Spinning Rod with a Shimano Saragosa 18000F be. I already own the reel and just ordered this rod. After seeing this video i really don't know if it is correct for my application. I have 30 lb mono on it, I use it mostly for targeting small tuna, Dorado, and sailfish here in puerto rico. I some times do some trolling with it, that's why I use mono and not braid.

    I've got a diawa saltist 35LD2spd reel i've been fishing on a 6'6 jigging style rod. I'm looking to try something different and get into one of these deckhand style rods that can throw iron as well as bait. I currently fish that reel 50 or 60 spectra backing and 40lb topper, set the drag to +/- 11-12#. Is there a pinhead or stealth seeker to fit that niche? these rods seem to fish 30# well. Will i need to lessen my drag setting to accommodate?

  • @rjc89sir

    so i've been shopping around online and noticed a lot of ads for american series seeker rods. what's the deal with these rods? are they discontinued or something because i don't see these rods on their website.

    Im looking to make a tarpon rod in the 30-40lb application 7'6" and was wondering which SS blank would be a good choice, working drag will be 10-15 on the outside edge

    Are the stealth rods good for throwing surface irons?

    • @CharkBaitUSA
      @CharkBaitUSA  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are a couple models in the line for that purpose. I will say that I like the Black Steel, Super, and PinHead series more for that purpose given the bend and use of fiberglass for that purpose. Personal preference there, but the PinHeads are great values and have the traditional actions folks prefer for tossing iron.

      @CharkBaitUSA  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +arotom Because I can..., that's my sarcastic response to your note. If you'd like to demonstrate your superior skills please let me know of any vid you've done so that I can watch and benefit from your expertise....
      I don't claim any great skill as a public speaker sir, quite the opposite. I simply try to share some info. If I have a pause, as you mention a "jaaa" chances are I'm working my meager brain while figuring out what needs saying next. I don't work off a script, I yack off the cuff. Do not expect professionalism in the vids I post, this is pure amateur hour type production stuff. No hired models, no hired factory spokesman, just a numbnuts trying to convey some info. I can express an apology for not being better at this stuff, but in truth don't expect more than that which I can do.

      Please note the video description, Seeker is not the same firm it once was, no longer rod experts working there, no longer make their own rod blanks.
      "Note: 7/2014 - Seeker was sold, the plant in Long Beach is no more. The new owner relocated and sold off most of the rod making equipment to produce blanks, now their rod blanks are sourced from another firm with limited success and no experience with composite rod building. Their long term production manager Randy Penny has left the firm and is the new owner of United Composites. UC is now up and running, new blanks being produced at the UC factory in Huntington Beach CA. In 2015 we ceased stocking Seeker products. Sad to see Seeker go, and equally sad that the fellow who put this firm down essentially also helped kill Calstar. Some other factors at play there, but results of Seeker's sale and subsequent maneuvering knocked out two long time producers of USA made rods." To add to that tale, the fellow who destroyed Seeker in his attempt to buy Calstar found a buyer for the firm, no experience within the industry or manufacturing. Still sourcing blanks from another entity. Sadly, Seeker isn't what it was. In the case of both Calstar and Seeker, GUSA or as known today United Composites, always had the better rod designs...and they now have won the race.
