I was surprised with the feel on them! The line ratings feel sound different to what we use out here for jigsticks because they’re technically shark rods, but they definitely fit the feel for our fishery out here!
Thanks homie, def got my attention since I'm definitely an Old Schooler still fishing the "Dusties"!! Much ❤️ and success to y'all 🤙🤙 Jr does amazing work🙏
Stumbled across your video because I was looking into “newer” jig stick options. My first “real” jig stick was a CalStar 690J with a Penn 99 / Newell custom I built and wrapped myself back in the late 90’s. Also fish a Seeker SJ90 and an old school 6480. About to wrap a 9’ 530 for local SoCal fishing with a Newell 332. I got a soft spot for all glass rods and older reels. I still fish a CalStar 8’ 270 with a Newell 200. Great comparison of different sticks. Thanks for posting!
2 Surface iron rods by Phenix that I’ve casted so far felt really good. The Axis, which I’m currently having wrapped rn, and the Abyss. I’ve also fished the California Tri helix for the last 4 years which is a black diamond blank and I am in love with that stick. Not mocking on phenix in any way, just trying to help out my buddy with this video after all that he’s done for me over the years
I personally haven’t fished them so I don’t have any experience or input with one of these rods. I casted one this day, and it felt pretty good, but that’s all the personal knowledge I have with it haha
The reason you under wrap is to keep the metal feet of the guide from digging into the blank and cracking it. You can get away with no under wrap in lighter rods and smaller fish but on saltwater big game is a no no
Il stick to my all glass 90J for the old school feel. Not knocking on them, but I think at that price range, I could build a 40lb and 50lb stick for the price of 1 blank.
I’m not 100% sure. All the info to get more details on these rods is in the description. Danny’s insta and phone number are both there. Feel free to shoot him a message
I can’t remember exact what it was called. Stadium something I think, hard for me to remember. I’m from the 805 so I don’t know any of the spots in LB lol
Oh nice. That was my first time checking out LB, only ever gone out there for fred hall. I spent most of the time talking to Randy, must’ve just missed eachother
So glad I got on the order. Danny is a rad guy. Love to see it Ray!
Danny is the fricken man! He’s helped out the fishing community so much
Rods look sick! Love the glass feel!

Things came up as I wanted to meet up with Danny and the rest of the fellas. Thanks for the video.
Ah that’s too bad. Glad I was able to put something together for those who couldn’t make it
Very enjoyable video. Intriguing and proven
old school type equipment. Will be following
up on their casting gear. Thanks again.
BOL/Tight Lines !!!
Glad Danny and JR were able to open up your opinions towards these rods! Tight lines brotha

How do you like the stead fast rods?? I sold off a few of my Harrington’s to buy in to these rods and I don’t regret it at all!!

Long Beach
I think the exact location is the long beach marine stadium yw
OMG! I was there to pickup a yo-yo from SteelBaits. I WISH I said hi. I live in the LBC.
Oh nice. That was my first time checking out LB, only ever gone out there for fred hall.

Do they make spinning rod
You could make any blank into a spinning rod.
@@mannyperez7680 how much I like an 8 feet spinning rod
Someone need to teach jr how to cast a 10footer 😂😂
Lol that stickbait was really light on a heavier rod so I can fend for him, it wasn’t the easiest to cast.
Bro I wanted to go just to grab some irons from Randy 😂 had to work late..
I spent almost the whole time talking to Randy haha. He said he was going and I was like “alright I’ll be there” lol
nice brand loyalty @phenix
What ever happened to Danny and off switch charters? He straight disappeared.
That’s a very good question that many of us would like to know.
G town dis rods don’t play
They were designed for shark fishing from the beach. Not interested.
