    Four of us rode to Prudhoe Bay from southern indiana back in june/july of this year. We took 3 bmw gs's and I rode a Suzuki V-strom 1000XT. My Suzuki was the only bike that didnt have a single issue on the 11,000 mile trip. One bmw blew out its front shock and both fork seals. One bmw lost both front fork seals and developed all sorts of electrical issues. And the other bmw, a 4 month old r1250gs rallye, made it to Deadhorse and caught on fire 30 miles south the next day. My vstrom didnt have the first issue. The hardest part of the dalton was the calcium chloride they spray down on the parts under construction. I would do it again in a heartbeat! Ps... the food at Coldfoot camp is terrible 😂

    I was there - just before you. I rode a fully loaded KTM 1290SAR with my wife. We had no problems - other than a fork seal. I was kicking myself for not checking my seals sooner. If I do it again, I'll have neoprene sleeves to keep the mud out.

      Be careful with the neoprene sleeves. While yes they can help keep dirt out…when (not if) dirt gets in they can lead to earlier failures.

    Great talk on the road... So many TH-camrs tell of the horrible times and road... not a big deal if you can stay out of the mud... Glad you now understand the greatness of the BMW GSA... LOL.... Ride on, ride safe !!!

    Man it's amazing how long you've had the 1290 SAT. Goes to show, not everyone has issues with ktm that they can't fix themselves

    Definitely a Bucket List to-do; great info, dude. Part of me wants to do it on slow, little bikes like my Trail 125 or a TW200. Just to add to the adventure of the whole thing.

    Neoprene Fork Seal savers are a must

    • @2WR
      @2WR  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Agree to disagree. Mike C (in the comments) will tell you about the neoprene covers on his forks and I had to fix it from leaking.

      @mikec1254 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yep, Mario is correct they held the dirt in, once it got in. I am just going to clean the seal area every night like i do my windsheild going forward.

    I agree for the most part. Construction zone is 30MPH not 50 and bad weather will change your ride drastically. That is a fact.
    For road riders Atigun pass could be challenging and definitely it will be a tricky one if there are trucks passing.
    The other thing is sinkholes. Some of them are really deep. If your front tire goes in, you are down for sure.
    I am not saying all this to scare people. In general the road is not difficult when is dry, you just have to be mindful when you ride.

    • @2WR
      @2WR  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Not sure where I said construction zones are 50. Said speed limit is 50 on the Dalton and construction zones can be in the single digits when following a pilot vehicle.

    I bought a Super Tenere in 2019 to make this ride in the summer of 2020. Covid shit all over my plans.
    Did you take extra gas? I bought a Rotopax to take with me just in case I needed it on the stretch from Coldfoot to Deadhorse.

    As always thanks for the great information. I know this dude who is an excellent KTM mechanic however he just did the Dalton. So i won't be able to bring him along on my trip. In the planning stages for next year. Will Rusty take his GS on the Dalton?

    Fuel grade issues? I've read mixed reports on how KTMs handle low octane fuel. Any problems?

      No issues. Ridden plenty of remote places with 87, sometimes only 85 available. It’s fine.
