Great idea for this video. Last summer, my nephew Weston, picked up a few lumps of WV coal at Nuttleburg. He put one on Pikes Peak, Beartooth Pass, and I think Independence Rock on our bike trip. Those 3 places are now linked to us.
Love the List, most are on my Bucket list. The Dragon is the only one I was priviledge to ride. A lot of great rides in the Smokey Mtn. Did all of those you mentionned and my favorite after the Dragon is the Moonshiner Hwy 28. OMG was that a fun and beautiful ride. Thanks for these videos you do, its always fun to watch. Patrick in Sherbrooke Qc ✌️
HY 14 in Wyoming between Burgess Junction and Greybull is a beautiful 56 miles snaking down out of the Bighorn Mountains through Shell Canyon. Lesser known but very special, with a 100' + waterfall along the way. I rode down it earlier this summer after finishing Section 7 of the WY BDR and was delighted.
Wow Mario! I didn’t expect you to put this all together so fast. Good Job! I truly enjoyed it. Obviously you are a good resource for this as you have crisscrossed this country a few time. Some of your top 10 are on my list and with only a couple that I have ridden. You also had a couple roads I have never heard of. Hopefully I’ll get around to it someday. I have noticed by watch your videos that West Virginia looks like a great state to ride. Oh, and thanks for the shout out. Although unnecessary I got a good laugh out of it. Thanks again and see you next time!!
Historic California state route 49, the highway is approx 160 miles and runs north to south. It passes through Little towns that are associated with the 1849 gold rush. It also has a section of road that many locals on motorcycles call the little dragon. It is approximately a 13 mile ride through lots of twisties. The little dragon starts south of Coulterville, California. My recommendation to ride if you find yourself on the east side of California in the foothills.
Great list! I’d add The Three Twisted Sisters because I’m a Texan at heart! Loved the Dragon the week before Thanksgiving… NO traffic (High), No Cameras (Low)… PCH sounds great, but I bet the fires kinda set that experience back. Lastly, I know it’s cliche, but US Route 1 to Key West is pretty unique…
I'm from the UK and have ridden five of these fabulous roads. I agree with number 1- the Dalton Highway; and the Death Valley road in particular. 👌 I rode from Ushuaia to Prudhoe Bay; the amazing CBP chap at the Alaska Border gave me and my wife another three months in the US so we could complete our goal of riding to Prudhoe Bay. We live three miles from Prudhoe in the UK where Prudhoe Bay gets its name; after Franklin's friend - Baron of Prudhoe. I also loved the Blue Ridge Parkway just before we did the Tail of the Dragon. Keep up the great work with the videos.
Awesome list. Highly recommend Mount Evans in CO. I’d say that is my #1 to date. If Lock Heart Basin did kick my arss so badly I’d put it up there. lol!! Been on a few of the others and looking forward to the adventure of the rest. 👍🏻👍🏻
Great vid and list Since WV is next to me in OH so please do provide a top 10 WV roads 😁 My favorite road is probably the skyway of roads ridden, but SE OH has some awesome roads as well. I still need to ride west of OH…
Great list. I have ridden so many great roads they all have their own personality. I need to do #3, #7 I will finish #1 this summer🤞. I would rate my favorite place to ride is Colorado I have done just about every cool paved road west of Denver and a few unpaved. I would put Mt Evans in my top 10
@@2WR Not yet, tired in 2017 got weathered out. Rusty invited me to go with you guys, I had plans already made months in advance for that weekend. Helene whipped those plans out😡. So it's on the to do list. Was it worth the ride?
Great list! I've ridden most of those and they were spectacular. Beartooth would likely make my Top 10. Utah 12 is nice as well! I rode the Shafer Trail a few months ago and had a spill in one of those sandy washouts at the bottom of a hill. Oooof! Awesome ride though! I rode the Dalton in dry weather going north and in solid rain all the way south. That was 2 entirely different experiences. :) It's a real adventure ride! Alaska has some fantastic gem roads besides the Dalton. The Richardson Hwy down to Valdez blew my mind with it's vastly changing scenery over a short distance, including Thompson Pass and descending down the fjords into Keystone Canyon with waterfalls on both sides of the road as you approach the coast. Superb! Ride safe.
I concur about wva, especially the eastern half with 79 being the dividing line. Roads west of there are crowded and, not very good pavement. Roads east are well kept and great. I really enjoy Knobbly rd (apparently the Warlocks do too) as I drop further south for day loops. The whole area south of the Tail of the Dragon is great but the Smokies are crowded and 25 mph the entire park, been there done that. I like the Back of the Dragon better. Three Twisted Sisters and Death Valley are definitely worthwhile routes. Did a loop around every Finger Lake in New York which have some great roads and many so so roads, but really liked 417 skirting the southern tier just above the Pa boarder on the way back to Pittsburgh. Enjoy your videos, hopefully will run into you something putting around PawPaw area or the Seneca Rocks area.
120 from Yosemate to lee vining scenery is top notch. there's like 5-6 passes over the siera navada and are all worth it. the 20 in Washington like omak to discovery bay the whole thing, washingtons apple country, north cascades national park, deception pass, port townsend, and what do you know it connects to the 101 up and around the olimpic peninsula and shoot down to the astoria and that crazy bridge over the mouth of the Columbia river. the 101 in the middle of oregon is kinda mid stuck behind the dunes and all but then the samual bordman scenic corridor. then California where the sky opens up and the birds start chirping and your camping gear actually gets to dry, trinidad is crazy. then if youre brave you can take the lost coast, not even google knows where the roads go in the lost coast. i got lost in the lost coast, took a wrong turn out of honeydew and several hours later deep in the night ended up in shelter cove. then its a doddle to the start of hiway 1 in leggett. once the 1 hits the coast there are some campgrounds where you can see parts of the original 1 eroded off the cliffs and into the sea.
You missed AZ road 191 the Coronado Trail from Clifton in the south to Eagar in the north with over 400 turns (I heard) with great views and old mining towns and rises to about 5,000ft.It runs up the east end of Arizona border with New Mexico about 225 miles
My man Mario! You are doing great work, thank you for all the awesome videos! I know you put a lot of effort into it, and we appreciate it! This yr, We did a trip 11 guys all Multistrada’s NY to TN. On way back, we detoured going up thru WV to Marietta GA. Looking back, WV has the most character and best vibe. I love the roads, coal mines, the people. OH is great too. We are blessed to have this as a passion. I’ll look you up next time I’m in WV. Roads near NYC: 1. 218 north of West Point. 2. Arden Valley in Harriman State Park 3. Frost Valley in between Claryville and Big Indian in Catskills NC 1. Devis Whip / Route 80 just south of Little Switzerland TN (I think you mention these too) 1. Foothills Parkway. Leads into the Dragon, smooth surface / very fast corners 2. Moonshiners. Big sweepers, tight switchbacks, leads into Clayton GA Take Care Man!
Thanks for sharing. I have ridden a number of the roads you mention in your Top 10. Good choice. My wife and I have done some amazing rides in Europe. I can tell you that there are some many more opportunities to ride something special over there. We really liked Spain.
Haven't ridden Spain yet but did get to ride France, Austria, Germany, Belgoum and some other countries a few years back. I look forward to going back soon.
@ Greece and Italy were amazing. Tuscany Italy was an outstanding experience. We road an area with seven passes close to our B&B. The food was great too.
Great video. You haven't tamed a Dragon until you've tried the REDNECK DRAGON (Hwy 32 from Cosby TN to Waterville NC - and beyond), which is on the other end of the Smokies from Tail of the Dragon. Great ADV road too because it turns to gravel at the TN/NC line with more good ADV riding beyond. HMU next time you come to East Tennessee and I'll take you over there!
Nice list. I've ridden a few of them, and most of the rest are on my bucket list (although, even if I get to Alaska, I think that I'm past being able to ride the Dalton on my H-D Heritage - oh, to be 30 years younger!). Some that are my favorites: US 276, between Maggie Valley and Traveler's Rest, NC, up and over the Blue Ridge Parkway. Doesn't have a nickname, no one sells t-shirts, stickers, or patches, but it totally kicks both the Tail of the Dragon and Cherohala Highway, combined - without the traffic, even on holiday weekends. AR-7, AR-123 (the Arkansas Dragon), and AR-374, between Dover and Harrison, AR. Almost better than it's more famous cousin, the Pig Trail, but with better scenery. IL-100/the Great River Road, between Alton and Grafton, IL. Not technical, just a nice cruise on one of the best stretches of the Mississippi River, past the Alton Bluffs and the Palisades. Talimena Skyway - between Talihina, OK and Mena, AR. A fun motorcycle ride (if the traffic's not to bad or the clouds too low), with spectacular views. US-14A/US-14 over the Big Horn Mountains - between Lovell and Dayton, WY. Going from the desert at the bottom on each side to the alpine meadows at the top, while hanging off the side of the cliffs on both ascents/descents. Chief Joseph Highway. How to get from Cody, WY to Beartooth Highway in the most spectacular fashion possible. Like your home state of WV, my home state of Missouri has far too many great roads to be able to pick from. You could come here for a month and almost never ride the same road twice.
Interesting list, only one I've done on a bike is the Dragon, did Beartooth on a car trip. There are several NC state roads I did last trip that were great rides, I'd have to look up the numbers (215 is one of them, also US276 but there were a couple others as well, all near Brevard). Don't know what conditions are like there now though with the hurricane damage. Back of the Dragon is higher on my list than the Tail, also The Snake, several times I've put together the Back of the Dragon, Snake and US58 for over a thousand curves in a few hours of riding.
I got to ride the dragon on a duke 390 last summer and it was amazing. I got plenty of pics of me riding, leaning, waving, and getting stuck behind cars lol. I agree its very busy and commercialized, its an attraction just like walt disney world. Better, faster, scenic riding is found on the roads connected to and around the dragon. Still, its such a highlight of my time on a bike.
For that 240 mile stretch with no fueling stations I recommend having a reserve can of fuel that you can carry on the bike. I can’t imagine running out of fuel out there. Your right this is your list and most of your choices I’d agree with. I noticed you was on your 2007 fjr1300 in your pikes peak video I have that same bike. Did you know that was the only year for that color?
I did know that about the FJR...sometimes I still miss that bike. And thanks for taking the time to comment and glad to hear you're in agreement on most.
No Florida roads 😂? In all seriousness, I was impressed by the Tamiami Trail through the Everglades. There were a few turns and it adds to the adventure seeing Alligator, Panther, Bear, and Deer crossing signs on the same road.
To be a contrarian: Pikes Peak is a skip. Born/raised in Colorado, moved away in my 20s, had never done it and decided to do it on a visit back home. Maybe 5 years ago I did it on my multistrada on a late summer weekday, kids back in school, not amazing weather, and it was packed to the tits. Insanely busy. Didn’t even get a sticker up top because the line was preposterous. Also I got in “trouble” for passing on double yellow (the entire road is double yellow, and a water truck was going 20 mph) and for going too fast in general. These Karens get OFF on calling you out on the radio and tracking you down. They’re not cops so you can tell them to pound sand but they WILL call the real cops eventually. So… Unless you are willing to ride behind someone going 35 mph or slower the ENTIRE time, lest you have your peepee smacked, SKIP pikes peak. Edit: Mildly satisfied to say I’ve done two of these. PP and and Shafer Trail. Guess I have work to do.
Guess the difference is my ride up and down was perfect weather with great visibiliity at the top and almost no traffic. Your ride up PP sounds like my ride up Mt Washington this past fall (which will be in an upcoming video series).
WA Hwy 20 through North Cascades National Park is amazing.
Colorado Rt 65 - Grand Mesa Hwy. Can ride that on your way to million dollar highway. Both spectacular
YES, please do a top ten WV roads!
Great idea for this video.

Highway 12 Lolo Montana to Lewiston Idaho
I did this one - awesome road 😉
The Rattlesnake / Hwy 58 in Oregon is a great road.
SR190 Loved it, Outstanding.. Loved Death Valley too!!

Cool video, I was surprised that several of them and the runners up I have been on. Highway 50 I have done in both directions.
In for a WV video 🔥
Great video! I like hwy 12 Lolo Pass and NC 209 “The Rattler.”
Thanks! and both great additions

Great list. I’ve been lucky enough to ride most on the list. The Dalton is still ahead for me. Utah 12 is one of my favorites.
Utah 12 is a great one!

The sand on Shafer can get deep for sure. There's definitely some more areas in Alaska I want to ride.

Southeast of Sylva NC, the 281 (Canada road), is a must ride in the area of the Tail.

You're welcome!
Thanks Mario. When i win the lottery next week I'll do them all 😜
😂
My favorite road is Route 19 in North Georgia crossing Blood Mountain.
When I ride the tail of the dragon,I ride it during the week.
There's a lot less traffic.
Same. Midweek and early.
I got to ride the dragon on a duke 390 last summer and it was amazing. I got plenty of pics of me riding, leaning, waving, and getting stuck behind cars lol. Wow. I've only done 4 of them. I feel like such a slacker. 😅
Did 5 of the 10... I would add Florida A1A down in the Keys....
I went back and forth on it but ultimately took PCH over it.

California State Route 36 - 1,811 curves in 140 miles!
What about the Rocky Mountains??
Umm…literally 30% of the roads I named are in the Rocky Mountains.
No Florida roads 😂? In all seriousness, I was impressed by the Tamiami Trail through the Everglades. There were a few turns and it adds to the adventure seeing Alligator, Panther, Bear, and Deer crossing signs on the same road.

Curious what your favorites are in West Virginia.
I'll get a video out on that.
