I was probably one of the people who said I wouldn't be happy with it in a previous video :) I understand that it's not in a central location, but that could potentially spread (like a windshield crack), and then you will need to replace it. Also, looking at the resale value. If you were to sell it or trade it in, I bet you the buyer will point this out to you and you will be negatively affected by the resale value. This is an enthusiast car and I think a lot of people look at this. Would I pay out of pocket to get it replaced? No. But knowing that this car is new to you, I'd definitely try to push the selling dealership to cover it. Honestly, it should be a goodwill repair from my perspective, even if not a warranty claim.
Sorry you're having this issue. In my opinion, this is a warranty issue. Unless they can show negligence, there is obviously something defective. The M8 is at the top range and most profitable. I highly doubt M8 drivers are driving in a neglectful manner to potentially damage their cars. Claims like these, need to be presented any specific way to gain approval. Then there is the qouted cost of nearly 3k. Seams slightly inflated. I have owned 7 BMW'S and have a 100% confidence my dealership would have advocated expensively for the warranty repair. I hope another dealership steps up to fix this issue for you.
Since your local dealer was useless, I would ask the selling dealer for their help. They made a good profit selling the car to you, so hopefully, since it's a 2023 with low mileage, they can sway BMW to replace the screen. It's not that difficult to change out. If it was my car, and I know I can't unsee that crack, it would bug me every time I was driving the car. Good luck.
Since it's only cosmetic, I think you might as well leave it alone, unless you can get it covered for free. Even then, your concerns about having things loosened etc., are justified. I recently had a big job done, a clutch, and a month later found that the windshield washer doesn't work now. That's another expense. I'll give you my worst possible advice here, to never do; (1) try and fix it yourself, (2) put a piece of tape over it. 🙄
If they agreed to fix it under warranty, that dash would have already been replaced. I do not think it is a big deal but what if moisture gets in there?
