I feel like I'm putting together a 'consumer watchdog' video but I thought this could be useful and relevant to people. It's definitely made me think about extended warranties going forward. Let me know your thoughts and experiences in the comments below.
Totally agree! In my experience BMW insured warranty is worth it - otherwise things can get costly! My BMW with N53 3.0 has had low pressure fuel sensor, high pressure fuel sensor and all 6 injectors changed under warranty without fuss!
if you buy the extended warranty at the time the vehicle was purchased, the prorated value begins on that purchase date even though coverage doesn't really start until your 4 year factory warranty expires. if you purchase the extended warranty just before your 4 year factory warranty expires, when does the proration start? from the cars purchase date (about 4 years earlier) or from the date the extended warranty was purchased? makes a big difference on what you get back if you trade the car in at the 5 year mark.
Hello very good information, I purchased x5 last year it came with BMW used warranty. I purchased the car in lock down and no test drive was offered what was offered is 7 days money back guarantee. The day I purchased the car and drove the car home on the way I heard some crunching noises I called Bmw and they gave me an appointment 7 days later to bring the car back to check by then 7 days was over when I took the car back, they had a listens didn’t find anything I took car back to them 3 times but was fed up as the bmw showroom was 20 miles away. 10 months later noise got worse I took it local Bmw showroom in my town they thought it’s break disks shins are making noise they replaced them and noise wasn’t fixed took the car back again and went for drive with tech who listened to noise and said I know what it is now they replaced lower arms but noise wasn’t disappeared 10 days later gear box went now the car is with bmw and they replacing the gear box. I’m relay annoyed as paid lot of money for the car. X5 has done just 52000 miles I drove full service history from bmw was sold by them even though they are replacing the gear box I’m bot happy with it I kept saying to them from day one it’s making noise but they didn’t take notice I’m very upset about it.
Thanks. I’d be annoyed as well. That doesn’t sound great and does spoil what should be a good new car experience. Sorry it’s put such a dampener on a nice car. My experience with BMW service has always been very mixed. But, being honest, I would say the same about a lot of brand dealers! There is one positive you can take away from this, if the gearbox does resolve the issue. You will have a new gearbox which you shouldn’t have to worry about for a long time and the other bits that were replaced when they probably didn’t need to be. So, it’s annoying but there’s one positive out of a bad situation. I hope it gets resolved and you get to start enjoying it!
That's put my mind at rest somewhat - I'm about to but a 66 plate X6 M50D, tri-turbo monster, it;s a BMW approved used, immaculate condition, over -serviced by last owner so will come with a full BMW approved used warranty - I intend to take out a further warranty in 12 months as I'm petrified about turbo failure!
I’ve got the comprehensive cover. But, as always, wear and tear isn’t covered. There are a few payment options, I have to pay the initial inspection fee for any fault which is about £90. You can pay more and that’s covered as well.
Hi, just to let you know that, my 135i N55 engine, coupe went in for a central locking problem, which was bought from a Ford dealer but had a full main dealer service history had been part exchanged, the warranty was a a two year RAC warranty, who have paid out to BMW main dealer for parts and fitting of a new central locking actuator and micro switches came to £600, bud did have to pay for the diagnostic check which the warranty didn’t cover, I could take the BMW monthly cover on my car, which would be £59 per month so yes, that’s good news for anyone buying a service documented car.
@@k.m.f369 Firstly, nice car choice👍 Difficult to say. Overall the reliability seems to be pretty decent with those engines and the general mechanics. Mileage isn’t too high and it’s still a pretty new car. I assume it’s not long out of warranty. Which means any issues should’ve been dealt with. Are you getting warranty with the car? Is it from a BMW dealership? Also, if it is a dealer ask them for the service report on the car to see if it’s had any reoccurring issues etc. You can still ask even if you’re not buying it from BMW. If you get a warranty with the car then you could see what you think for the first few months. Then take a view and if you have any concerns you can take a warranty out before the initial warranty term comes to an end. The thing is, as mentioned in the video, what I paid for the warranty over the time I owned the car wasn’t far off what I could’ve probably got the repairs done for. However if they turbo had gone a couple of years sooner then it I would’ve been well ahead. I would base it on the overall quality of the car, the service report, how you think it’s been looked after, how many miles are you going to do in it, do you take it easy or do you want to get the most out of the performance and how long will you be keeping it for. If you want peace of mind contact BMW and ask them what the warranty options are. For a newer, lower mileage car the monthly amount might not be bad at all and it could be a good option. If however they’re asking silly money then I’d consider putting that amount into a separate interest account and let that build up. If anything does come up you’ll have a chunk towards it, and if you get no significant issues, you’re quids in and it can go towards you next car! Not financial advice😂😂 Sorry it’s not a definitive answer, I’d hate to advise one thing and the worst happens. Whatever you decide I hope you have an awesome experience with your new car🙂
I'm not entirely sure. I can only tell you from my perspective which was buying the car from a main dealer which came with a 12 month used car warranty and I extended from there. However, if you have a car with full recorded BMW (or acknowledged) history and no mods then I think they'd offer you one. The cost does increase pretty dramatically on mileage. Give them a call or email. You should get an instant answer. Or, somebody else on here may know. Anybody?
That’s pretty low miles and not an old car, would like to think you wouldn’t get any major issues. Ultimately I would base it on how much the cost of the warranty is going to be. Also, research your specific model and see if there are any major issues being discussed on the forums. It might help steer your decision
@@RemoveBeforeLaunch Thank you so much! We found out we still have about 8 months left on mfg warranty. I will definitely research on any known issues. It was one lease owner and it looks great. Thank you again! * We got one quote for 120 month 🧐
@@TOBEINTHELIFE You’re welcome. That’s great if you’ve still got warranty, hopefully there won’t be any issues but at least it gives you chance to live with the car and find any niggles whilst it’s covered. 120p/m seems quite high. You have to start wondering if it’s worth it. I’d be tempted to bank the 1440 a year and use it for work if it’s needed. It probably won’t be and you’ve a chunk of money saved. Enjoy it!!!
Don't let it put you off but definitely try to look for a good one or one that's had the turbos replaced. On a positive note. When mine went, and if BMW hadn't covered it, I'd already started looking at hybrid turbo replacements, which would have been pushing the cars power up significantly. That could've been expensive but fun!
Extended warranty is a scam, ive been told today by bmw i need to pay them £3000 to diagnose the fault as it involves an engine strip. Ive reporting them to trading standards
@@eatdahl Well if you’ve got a full warranty and they’re still charging you then I don’t blame you. I would be taking that further as well. Hope you get the right result!
@@RemoveBeforeLaunch im paying £242 a month for extended warranty and then they hit me with this saying i serviced 3000 miles late even though there is nothing in the idrive to show a late service and they said i didnt use genuwine filters even though it says in the warranty that genuwine or equivalent part is fine and a bmw specialist fit it and put the services on idrive. Ive submitted a complaint now to motor ombudsman
