In this video, I and my friend have converted a conventional sliding door to mechanical motorized sliding door which functions just great. For this, we took an old car power window motor a few other components like nylon rollers and a synthetic rubber nylon string to be used as a push-pull string. We attached the string on to the door with springs so as to absorb shock at endpoints. We kept this setup simple by not using limit switches because it would have had complicated the setup. We used a 12v 10Ah battery with the automatic charger to power up this entire setup. Relays and other components used along with some wires and a two-way push to on switch to open and close the sliding door. The project came out very well and we were very satisfied with the result. The list of parts is as below:
1) Power window motor
2) Nylon-rubber synthetic string
3) Nylon base 40mm and nylon pulleys 40mm with bearings(4 Nos)
4) Two relays DPST 12v
5) Some miscellaneous wires.
6) SPDT momentary on switch.

If we open door by hand so its can be work hard. Did u feel that or it is still easy to open by hand ?
Yes it does get bit hard in case of power failure but as such system is fail proof and it's working just fine since it has been installed without any downtime and failure. The hardness in case of power failure is not so much that you have to struggle opening the door. Thanks for your keen interest and time 🙏😊✌️👍
You need breaking to stop door from slamming and you need limit switches and location sensors with a simple analog circuit, with relays. Or you can use an encoder wheel and count pulses but this is more complicated and you will need to program a micro-controller. It also needs obstruction sensors and over current motor stall protection.
Ya as said I can manage to do all of that but just to keep project simple I have not done that so that others can replicate it
You don't need any of that. it is controlled by a person that is right there. Not automated.

Thanks for appreciation. Glass holding roller channels need to move with string you can achieve that be welding or screwing an arm to attach retractable string through motor. Hope you may have got some idea. Thanks for your time and interest ✌️👍🙏😊
if electricity cut out, how do you open the door? or the pulley slippery enough to slip the shaft, since the gearbox must be hard to turn manually.
There is a 12v battery backup so no worries the door will open😊

How does the motor know when to stop? For example if you kept the toggle switch on door close and when the door is fully close, how does the motor not continuing keep turning? Thank you ahead.
Motor is extremely heavy duty more so the door open close switch is momentary. It's just too keep things simple I have not added limit switches else that is also possible to initiate in this design. So once direction switch is released it stops where ever so you do know that for had reached either of the end open or close. Thanks for your time and interest

I have not added cutoff switch instead the forward reverse switch is momentary so just at the right point I need to release the switch while opening or closing the door to make things simple and also the motor is very heavy duty it's still working flawlessly since I installed it. @@AFSALTHOYALKATTIL string material is called rubber string it's generally available at places who deal with various belts and pulleys. Bearings are made up of nylon bar it can be turned on lathe and then ball bearings can be fitted in slots made for it to make it a nylon pulleys that you saw in the video. How do the motors know exactly when to stop?
It's completely manual and load on motor is reduced by springs I used in the string. So on each side the door is closed or open but no sensing mechanism or limit switches used to keep the design simple and also the motor used is very rugged that it won't fail for transient current spikes. Limit switch mechanism can be deployed but it complicates wiring so I adopted a simple manual way. Thanks for your time and interest ✌️👍🙏😊

Yes it is possible to make connections with limit switch in such a way that after limit it will not allow motor to move forward in that direction but it can go reverse. If I will get time I will make a diagram for you. 👍

There are limit switches with rollers with normally open and normally closed contacts. Use normally closed contact and cut relay forward and reverse power lines and route it through normally closed contacts of limit switches. So when ever the door will reach extreme limit corresponding direction relay coil power will be disconnected and hence motor power will stop in that direction but will remain connected in other direction as that limit switch is not hit by limit. Use 12v 20 ampere SMPS supply generally available in metal box with ventilated net on top. This will serve your purpose. Hope I have resolved your query. All the best in advance for a successful project.
What is the power supply you used in this project??
12v 5amp battery sealed lead acid with charger. So in case of supply failure I can still open the door.

@@sudhirkolambekar916 for that you will need infrared sensors array for door close and open sensing and you would be needing a nylon rubber belt drive for that. So it's better to go for dedicated parts rather than DIY as it will save your lot of time. But still if I find some DIY solution for your project I will message you. Thanks 🙏😊✌️👍

@@mrz6320 12v 5amp is also sufficient so your supply is good enough. If your cables are to thin, change the supply cable if needed use minimum 3 square mm cable for length above 8 to 9 metres. Also check relay current carrying capacity if its not rated for more than five ampere change that. I had also given the circuit diagram of this door in the description box. Feel free to contact for any help. Most important of your door assembly is drawing much higher amps due to mechanical imperfections fix that first before doing any thing. 👍

Trying to pull more wieght than the device is capable of .....measure how my weight of pull is neede and then measure capability of device to lift maximum weight ..... 10meters???? that is LONG! LOL ....my guess? way too much to ask from a car antenna motor! Might have to go to industrial device ....or old garage door chain drive opener ....screw drive could work also of of course ....but to use rope idea would need to be chain drive (convert to rope pulley)

It is simple power window motor of any car with synthetic rubber string. You can easily get power window more like this from scrap vendor. Thanks for your time and interest 😊🙏👍✌️

It's a heavy duty motor doesn't slow down at end points but I release the switch near the end and it gets shut or open perfectly as you saw in video

Which motor did you use?
It's a old car power window motor these type of motors were used in GM and Opel cars. I got it from scrap for just 3.5 USD. Try on e bay you may be able to get hold of one.

You haven't shown thebottom side of door wheather you have given any support to slide,incase clear door area there may be some problems
