Raziel has become a cheff in this game. Before devouring their souls, he grinds up Melchiah, cooks Zephon, boils Rahab and roasts Dumah. Only Turel got away. For now.
To be fair, the centuries in limbo have stopped Dumah from devolving into some monstrosity with a dumb weakness... just think about it: Melchiah became an amalgamation of corpses who needed a meat grinder in his own room to help him grind down his victims, Zephon became permanently stuck in a room in his own fortress, Rahab became even more vulnerable to sunlight to the point that he couldn't even survive in open areas, and Turel became blind and vulnerable to sound because of his enhanced hearing. Meanwhile, Dumah... just got bigger.
This is what happens with strict materialists. It's a spiritual sort of strength Dumah is talking about. Has nothing to do with muscles. That's like saying Raziel can't possibly push those heavy blocks with those slim arms of his.... :P
And yet, he is actually the strongest of the bethren you face off. You can't even weaken him in any way, just run away as fast as you can before he gets you.
The voice acting in this game is the stuff of legend. I remember I had this on copy with no instructions, took me a while to work out you could put blocks on top of each other!!!!!!
Top with fresh lettuce, juicy tomatoes, and tangy bb-q sauce just a 1.75$. Ah raziel? yes? you got some sauce on your face. I know. the otherside raziel. I hope i'am done before this day is done.
This shows Raziel is sporting. He could have devoured Dumah's soul while he was shackled, but instead he freed him. The one power you never use beyond this game.
he couldnt even fi the thought crossed his mind its shown that the creatures that live in the spectral realm that have a form, project a sort of "shell" protecting this form from other soul predators. Raziel has this, this is why creatures like sluagh cannot consume him, and wraiths had to damage this shell 1st before draining him. Dumah is much the same as a wraith but much more powerful. He had to be trapped in his physical form again to be evne be possible ot kill him.
I'll never forget the chills i had when Dumah got near me.I still have the original cd in my bookcase even if it's filled with scratches and my computer gets stuck every time i place it in.At that time Crystal Dynamics knew some sh*t to make such a great game.
Turel was originally going to be in the game - Kain was originally going to bestow the 'Shift at Will' ability, allowing Raziel to shift from the spectral realm without needing a conduit, and Turel's area was a sort of industrial super center. Screen shots of it can actually be seen in some early previews in gaming magazines. It was taken out when it became clear they would need a sequel to wrap up the story.
The "constrict" ability - lets Raziel run in circles around an object or enemy to manipulate them - rotate a dial, for example. Mostly useless except to get through areas that require it.
I love this game! I personally think that this is the most Brutal action/adventure game there is. I mean look at Malchia's death, that is something that cannot be repeated. Same thing with Dumah, where else can you see something that damn brutal. Oh, and I can't forget the amazing storyline. It could damn well make a great movie!
I really don't know for sure if this is my favourite, but there's something charming in this game that the sequels doesn't have... in spite of their tehnologycal improvements... I do believe that the argument in combination with the athmosphere and the highly retoric dialogues can be the key in the mystic of this game.
Here's a nice little bit of info. Dumah is voice by Simon Templeman as well as his voicing of Kain. Obviously they altered the voice clip to sound slightly different, but you can definitely hear Templeman's voice behind it.
The ruined City (this area) really makes me think of Janos' Retreat. Especially at 3:32, with the opening and the graceful archways. The scale of both places just seems so open, and large, even when you're in closed spaces. I wonder if this was once a city for ancient vampires...
@samael316 I actually had a seperate video of that dialog, but it got corrupted, and I had already overwritten the save :| Didn't want to replay the entire game (again... I agree with the consensus that Dumah is the coolest brother. And yes, he gives you the lamest power. A shockwave/groundstomp would've been cool, but most of Raziel's other abilities are about overcoming environmental hazards. Also, this video reminded me of how awesome Raziel's throwing abilities are. Gravity is SOO overrated. ;)
@ariel pirangy Dumah exists in the spectral realm not as a wandering soul vulnerable to consumption by Raziel, but a powerful being trapped for centuries in the spectral realm.
+Slixer Kain is about as impervious as Dumah. When you play as Kain, they can't make him invulnerable, but Kain said that only the Soul Reaver can truly kill him. So, in lore, he's certainly more powerful than Dumah. Especially if you decide to give him the magic powers he had in the first game, which he inexplicably lost and never regained. Probably because many of his powers were just way too good.
the reason whyhe stopped following him/or her is because they were going the wrong way. Dumah stops and waits for you to go the right way. If oyu go the wrong way or too far away, he will reset back to his chamber. That;s one of the reasons he was my favorite, smart AI

@Joudas the whole reason for the constrict ability was that the developers hads trouble developing an animation for turning certain objects, so they developed the constrict ability instead. by the timne of soul reaver 2 though, they had overcome that problem, so they got rid of the ability.
@Reingnus He may be physically weaker, but in reality he can't die, if his physical body dissolves, he goes spectral, if his spectral self "dies"... he returns to the Elder God. So he is in the true sense... immortal, no Game Over in this game lol
