    its so weird that it was just normal to be so blatantly disrespectful in the 2000s- thats probably why older gens call us so sensitive, bc now ppl arent going to be insulted for nothing😭

    • @hakaze6269
      @hakaze6269 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +95

      i agree, but honestly you can tell that this sort of rude, disrespectful mean girl behaviour is actually coming back in a really large scale these days. people now are more than ever comfortable with bullying, making fun of others and even calling people slurs, except now it’s just more on the internet

    • @RecoveringChristian
      @RecoveringChristian 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @hakaze6269 now it's more accepted and individually monetized. Gen z takes the the entire cake and leaves no crumbs.

      No, it's been par the course from era to era. The veil of scripted reality TV show shenanigans had been lifted for a long time. Except we understood nuance and considered things in context, things which this generation is not soo keen on, esp with rage bait and the Outrage Olympics segment of content creation.

      while you're right... some people still have no respect but the only difference is that they hide it behind social media

    • @shockingdocumentaries4255
      @shockingdocumentaries4255 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It’s still normal to be disrespectful even NOW.
      And if there’s a lot of these 90 shows like Tyra Banks that are bad, let it me said they are even worse than these documentaries lead us to believe. As they focus on a few people, several episodes, choose some of the messed up things they did in that episode.
      The only difference between now and before it’s nothing. The reason why this messed up stuff was shown in the early 2000s is because we were told that the stuff that we were seeing at that time no longer happened. It was all in the past. If you tried to point out it was STILL happening you were demeaned. The same thing is true now.
      Even you mention additional things that aren’t being talked about when it comes to the current chosen victim or point out that the behavior being criticized is being done by others who are talked about, you are verbally attacked by the same people who claim to care about these things.
      It’s weird how we are supposed to see racist tv as the past. Just like all racism and any problems that margainalized people experience.
      The irony is being informed about the few people arbitrarily chosen as a lightening only for things they did 20 years ago, makes us blind to how prevalent this is, makes it seem like black people do it To themselves since they are more likely to be criticized for industry wide practices. And makes us feel we need docimataries to validate the bigotry we can see and hear for ourselves.
      This and the fact that Tyra had to embrace racism and sexism to survive, which lead to black face, telling African woman their clothes they grew up wearing is a “costume” and demonized some girls for not getting naked, only to support the girl from the next season, and choose woman for their features to “CHSNGE” the industry only to demand those women for those same features, makes sense.
      Plus reality shows and the fashion industry are designed to make us feel bad and turn us into Groucho Marx. People who only want to be apart of clubs that don’t want you.
      Makeup only makes you feel beautiful if you feel bad about how you look naturally. Jumping through hoops for external validation only works if you are made insecure by the same thing promising to make you feel better.
      Those depressing commercials selling anti-depressants that can make you depressed to the point of suicide, are a good example.
      Especially since this show actually KILLED a lot of modeling careers and destroyed the self esteem of many woman. That includes the viewers who got a warped perception of what it is to me woman.
      This is how shows are about to keep showing people acting like blatant bigots. We are told it’s only bad if it’s covered on the news. We can’t believe our lying eyes and ears. If we bring it up we are told we are being negative or “using the race card” as if racism BENEFITS black people. Plus it’s so prevalent you have to be blind to it. Especially if you don’t want to be personally attacked and have your complaints about the abuse, used as an excuse for the additional abuse that was going to happen no matter what you do.
      By the way, I love the Taye Diggs clip of him tripping. 😂

    • @catiebeans
      @catiebeans 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +13

      @@dakotawinchester Are you really trying to say that Eva wasn’t a mean girl, so therefore was more deserving? I hate to break it to you, but Eva was consistently one of the biggest mean girls in the house this season.
      We are watching highly edited reality tv where anything can be spun to fit the producers predetermined naritives of how they want the show to go.
      Even with all these edits, Yaya consistently had better photos and was always more professional than Eva.

    • @dakotawinchester
      @dakotawinchester 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@catiebeans Yes, you are right. Eva was loud and annoying but she's just a 19 year old teenage girl being a 19 yo teenage girl. But Yaya was much older than her and she was very condescending and rude to most of the girls in the house. Norelle even said that in Oliver Twixt's interview. She said that Yaya acted like she was above all the other girls because she went to the Ivy League school or whatever. A lot of the other girls didn't seem to like Yaya on the show as well. Even some of them still said she was cocky and arrogant because she thinks she's smart and educated.
      That's her problem. Remember?
      Now she might be even more arrogant and condescending to people because she's a very successful actress now. But some of the girls like Amanda, Ann, the Black girls, Eva, Tocarra, Kelle and the Indian girl, Kelle seem like they are cool with Yaya now tho. I love seeing Eva and Yaya hanging out together even though I don't like Yaya's personality that much.
      Yaya wasn't as nice as you think at all. Eva seems like she changed a lot since the show. She is very grateful and gracious towards Tyra and the show while Yaya only talks trash about Tyra and the show. So it speaks for itself that who is a nice one and who is a mean girl.
      Eva is no more a mean girl now. She is a sweet, loving mother and a very classy and gracious woman.

    • @catiebeans
      @catiebeans 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +15

      @@dakotawinchesterTwo years is much older now? Both of their prefrontal cortex were not fully developed when this show was filmed.
      I’m not getting into the “he said she said” stuff after the show aired. Anyone is allowed to talk negatively or positively about their experience with the show’s production and Tyra. That doesn’t make them better or worse. Different contestants can have different experiences from their peers.
      All I said is that I believe that Yaya overall had better pictures, a better personality, and should have won. You can disagree all you like, but this is the last I have to say about this to you.

    Had no idea that Yaya was on this show but I loved her on Chicago Med. The irony that they were complaining about models being replaced by actresses for covers but then having them try to act and many actually pursued acting after the show is hypocritical, as if it's okay that they can but not vice versa 🤔

    in an ANTM podcast by Shea Coulee she interviews the former contestants and apparently they don't keep any of the pictures of their photoshoots so when they wanted to work they'd have no portfolios so most ended up quitting

    • @RecoveringChristian
      @RecoveringChristian 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @rebecky5ever that doest quiet make sense. Elyse cycle 1 had her photos. A couple girls from cycle 3. I mean we see them get the physical copies. So production took them back after their cycle's go sees? Anyway, weren't most of the photos unusable? Even girls like Jayla cycle 5 had her own photos taken separately and virtually none from ANTM and in her words quit due to a myriad of other reasons unrelated to antm photos (bf issues, Cindy Crawford herself helping her with go sees and still not getting traction).

      @PlaystationSimmer it was well known they (antm alum) were BL by the industry, made more evident when they included antm work in their portfolios and weee summarily dismissed. One thing that wasn't mentioned was about the Campbell's commercial in Japan. They planned a different commercial but because they were delayed from getting into Japan, they couldn't do the shoot anymore. That's why it was barebones them sitting on a ledge in a "garden," with a full face of makeup, in a kimono, eating canned soup. Also, the directors translator was a last minute replacement, which is why she struggled with English, and the director had a different translator during the judging panel.
    Also, Yaya and Sundai both said Jay Manuel was a very caring person off camera and helped the girls a lot. Jay just played up catty for drama and as his tv persona. A lot of the other contestants said Miss J was hateful and condescending towards them off camera.

    honestly, the tarantula shoot was so irresponsible on the production's part. for models who have never worked with exotic animals and the fact that they didn't even provide time to practice with the animal or even spend time around it (with the handler) to get used to it and understand the way it moves... NOPE
    just jump right in with an animal that could get severely injured if one of the girls understandably flinched or jumped causing it to fall down. i have read (when down weird rabbit holes, lol) that sometimes pet tarantulas can shed those little hairs when scared and the hairs get embedded in a person's skin becoming an irritant. imagine that happening on your face???

    This entire show is a great example for how 'pretty privilege' is a double edged sword.....the truth is most of these women just were made to suffer in creative ways for entertainment and never got much money or a sustainable career at the end of it. Most would have been way better off had they never been on the show, and they were targets for this kind of exploitation just because they are extremely beautiful.

    *But please with no disrespect, I would like to ask if maybe you could turn up the audio on the videos? I have a hard time hearing you even with my audio all the way up and when the ads come on it's so loud all of a sudden, it always scares me lol

    4:45 i love that you said tyra was trying to be a hero by casting that thin girl only to go all 'man-of-the-people' on how her body sends a negative message. Like, pandering much? She was totally there as a strawman so tyra could make a point about how caring she is.

    First of all, you are so beautiful and yes, ANTM was a mess, they were taking advantage of the young ages of the girls and many of the viewers as well. Notice no one except maybe Robyn and one other girl were over 25.
