"Sometimes you’ve gotta cut a little piece of yourself off. No matter how much it hurts. In order to grow. In order to move on." The man may be a little unhinged, but that is a truth that a lot of people ignore. Been there myself, couldn't bring myself to remove a part of me that was clinging onto something that was already gone.

@@AndyBankside And as an addendum, I have, possibly, met quite a few crims, including armed robbers and murderers, and a lot of them, underneath it all, have some weird psychic awareness and almost profound emotional understanding and sensitivity, which has usually been crushed and suppressed by hideous childhood trauma. Not, of course, that I am in any way condoning or excusing their adult behaviour. But listening to Tom relate that story, it reminded me of a lot of them.

Because let's not lie: feeling, mind and heart work separately but together!! Unanimous, yet different!!

That’s some great advice, and it’s a really deep idea that you see in religious teachings the world over. In Christianity where God says “if your hand causes you to sin cut it off,” or in the Buddhist idea of detachment. It’s letting go of parts of yourself that keep you from growing, dead wood to be burned.

Such a wonderful movie. Tom is fantastic and I loved how deep it seems but the answer is so simple, when they asked Charlie the first time he took a hostage. What do you want. He was confused almost and just responded what do you have to offer. Treat him like a human being and get a human being out of him in return. Treat him like a caged animal and that's what you'll get. The man just wants to be in a very basic and understandable way. He truly has an unbreakable will. 30 years of solitary is torture. It's inhumane and they expected him to break but he is who he is. Unbreakable. Wonderful movie 5*
