  • Dario shows us his extensive Vintage Pellet collection going back over 100 years.
We start off with British paper box pellets, the oldest from 1906, and then move on to tins from Britain, Germany and around the world.
    Enjoy!

Very interesting video and a wonderful collection. I can remember buying a large number of pellets from a secondhand shop in the 1970s as a teenager - these were in crude small cardboard boxes with a picture of Felix the cat cartoon character on the lid, anyone remember these?

Many years ago I worked with a bloke who had a pellet press. Nothing special just a lever style press that produced Cat slugs one at a time from lead sheet. I assume the press was produced and sold by Lanes. He could tell me nothing of the presses history other than he and his brother had been given the press as boys by an elderly uncle. They used the press as boys helping themselves to lead flashing from bomb sites and the odd roof???? I tried to buy the press from him on numerous occasions but he refused to part with it. I cant claim to be a pellet collector I just dont throw away old boxes and tins, but that press struck me as being a rare and important part of airgun history, probably typical of the sort of products produced by either Milbro or Lanes around the first world war.

Thank you for this interesting info. I have asked around and no one seems to have heard of a lanes or Lincoln Jeffries made press for home use, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t. there are examples of adapted reloading or bearing presses being used for slugs. The difficult part would be a well made and durable die. Thanks , Matt

@@dkjngl1 That may well be the key to the issue the press may have been of the generic type that accepts varied tools the dye parts may well have been sold independently of course it is possible that lanes had a hole row of these bolted to a bench and piece workers hand pressing pellets from morning to night. Lanes had several factories in London producing a wealth of airgun related goods. I lived in stoke Newington for a while and Lanes spring factory was about a quarter of a mile away After it was pulled down I had a rummage through the rubble I found some old paperwork relating to steel purchase and some springs non airgun related it was obvious that the factory was jobbing out, Unfortunately Nothing of serious interest was found I might have had better luck had I gone through the place prior to demolition.

Just got a Diana 5 (prewar).
The breach seal is in two pieces.
Suspect the piston seal and possibly the spring also need replacement. Any ideas for suppliers?
    Thanks.

I am in Sweden. Have asked Gotha and Schneider in Germany to no avail.
