I honestly don't know why I never thought to stack the tripwires. I usually spread them around the arena and make the machine chase me, but this makes so much more sense I feel stupid for missing the obvious. Guess I thought the damage wouldn't stack properly or something?
I get ur point as an early game hack. Stack ur dmg potential safely from the shadows to destroy machines u have no business taking on at low level. Great way to get purple mods early. Outside of that though, ur technique is time consuming and consumes a lot of resources. When u can take on a behemoth or thunder-jaw effectively its quicker and cheaper to exploit their weaknesses. Behemoth takes 5 ice warbow arrows, and a quiver of hardpoint arrows. The thunderjaw takes 2 sharpshot tearbolts to rip the disc launchers off, and 5 ice warbow arrows. If u freeze it, u can use one of the disc launchers it dropped to down it before it runs out of discs(8). Using the trip caster on a stormbringer is seriously impressive though. Luring it to the exact right spot and grounding it ontop of ur trap is pro move. They are notoriously hard to control yet u demonstrated absolute precision
hit 60 a few days ago and started the new game+ on the hardest difficulty. Most OP weapons is the Banuuk bow with just straight elemental damage types with ++corruption+Freeze mods, and a fully upgraded ++Handle+Damage mods (over 210 handle) Bankuuk hunter bow. (Using large machines as a measuring stick) The elemental bow will confuse your target with just 1 arrow and freeze your targets with usually 3. The hunter bow with full handle/damage modifiers mods can be aimed and shot in just shy of 1 second (load additional arrows is maybe 2/10ths a second, so 1.5 seconds roughly for a fully loaded shot) and do just as much damage as your sharpshooter bow - this also makes applying Burn extremely fast. Outfit the Sharpshooter with 100% tear modifiers and rely on the explosive ammo to just rid armor and modules, then swap to your fully modded hunter bow for fast and heavy damage. Only other weapon you'll use beyond that is the ropecaster for the larger birds, which I just slam all +handle+tear modules.
have you only used the tripcaster early game and not mid/end game? I stopped using it after I realized that I can just destroy all the strong enemies by freezing them with freeze arrows and using the shadow sharpshot bow on weakpoints when they're frozen (3 arrows at once); occasionally you can use a rattler with high damage mods too for close range frozen enemies. My best with only bow and arrow is killing a storm bird in just a few seconds, maybe even less than 10, with just a few freeze arrows and good weakpoint hits with my sharpshot bow. If it takes a bit longer but you still do it well, a Stormbird should not be able to attack you even once. If you do it really well against a Thunderjaw, it won't be able to attack you much or at all either, especially if you use it's disc launchers. If the frozen enemy is closer you can also use the rattler with high damage mods when frozen at close range. (Stormbirds sometimes fall to the ground when they get frozen with freeze arrows and you can spam the rattler with high damage mods and the sharpshot bow with high damage mods, and sometimes I use the tearblast arrows once before engaging a Stormbird or Thunderjaw to knock off the armour protecting weak-spots, or to use the Thunderjaw disc launchers against him in weakspots when frozen. You can of course use bombs instead too, but using just a bow and arrows and absolutely destroying the high level enemies feels badass and is the most resource-efficient method. Basically all you need is the sharpshot bow with high damage mods, war bow for freeze damage (and some corruption too is fun), rattler with high damage mods, hunters bow (for fire against freeze bellowbacks, glinthawks, sawtooths) and use your sharpshot bow for 3x arrows in weakspots once the armour is gone and once the enemy is either frozen or burning. 👍 - this works well in the frozen wilds DLC too as well as the main game. Maybe you can use the banuk striker bow for more fire* damage but I'd keep all the other weapons from the base game because they are faster to use and deal full damage even if you don't fully draw your bow.
